Not only are the cakes amateurish compared to others, but I have yet to see any of their customers actually eat the cake. We get no ideas on how the cakes taste. They (the decorators) all look kind of unclean, so I really wouldn’t want to eat their cakes, but still.

I hate to hate on them because the Ace of Cakes crew are locals, but I’ll get my over-the-top cakes from elsewhere.

Not to mention that I definitely lost major respect for Duff after watching his Chefography. You leave a restaurant that people would kill to work at because you got yelled at (rightfully)? Seriously? What a little pansy-poo-pants!

Actually it is an insult to chefs who have attained the chef designation to see guys like Goldman and Giada De Laurentiis call themselves chefs.Didn’t Fat Boy Fieri call himself a FN chef on a Youtube clip? I wonder when he will get his Chefography episode ?

Well, that’s probably why you don’t see anybody eating the cake, I guess. Most of it is fondant and gum paste and whatever else they use to sculpt it. Not a lot of actual cake.

And yeah, their cakes always seem kind of loose and shoddy. It seems like in every episode, there’s some sort of drama about how something fell apart or collapsed and now they have to do major repairs when it has to be at the party in 5 minutes. Either that, or it’s flopping around haphazardly in the car on the way.

I agree that some of the comments are a bit much, but I don’t understand why people think the employees at Charm City Cakes are so amazing. Don’t get me wrong, they do seem to have some talent, but I don’t think that cakes and fondant are the right medium for any one of them.

Their mediocre desserts look inedible and barely seem to be what the people asked for, with few exceptions. Duff is barely in the show anymore, which disappoints me. The few times he was on FN Challenge, he seemed to be so charismatic and fun, along with Geof, his complete opposite. However, the little interaction he has with the people on his show seem to be forced and he even seems to be talking down to them, even when he is commending their “amazing work.”

My overall thoughts of this show; Duff was fun to watch on FN Challenge and was given a show completely based on that and not on his talent. He shouldn’t be praised for “his” bakery when he seems to be more focused on his ill-gotten fame than on the poor quality of his product. The odd assortment of people working for him should take some of the money they are getting and go to a pastry school, an evening course, a library or anywhere else you could find some sort of instruction on how to properly hone the techniques used in cake decorating before hocking their overpriced crappy cakes.

Mary Alice seems to be the most down-to-earth of all of them, and as a “celebrity,” she is going to be subject to criticism, even for her looks, which may seem unfair, but it’s what happens. I’m sure she knows what she signed up for and I’m guessing the money and celebrity benefits for out-weigh any hits to her self-esteem.

Every other episode they have some sort of fondant sliding off the cake issue. STOP USING SO MUCH FONDANT! Good Lord, can they use any more gumpaste, modelling chocolate and fondant on a cake? It’s nice that they are so creative, but do they ever just ice a cake and pipe their decorations for some cakes. Show us something different for once.

If Food Network had to give a cake decorator a show, why couldn’t it have been Bronwyn Webber from the Food Network Challenges?

I am shocked and amazed at the human race when i read posts like this! So a woman on a show that does what it does upsets you?!?!….i fail to see how this gives you the right to be outwardly nasty! I hope no one ever writes things publicly like this about you.

If you think the cakes are over priced, don’t order one, they are doing fine with out your business, i have ordered a few and they are great. If you ask for a cake with a high level of modelling then that is what you will get….stands to reason does it not?

Clearly you are all making mouth farts about things you have no clue about and that is a shame. Mary-Alice is a doll…..i just suggest that if you hate the show…..don’t watch it…. but i find it slightly offensive that you would say the degrading and mean things posted here when you know it could get back to the employees of CCC, and no one should be made to feel like that…. celeb, FN face, or john doe. All are human. Karma works fast people….

Meh, I’m not a big cake person, and the show kind of bores me, but I like Mary Alice well enough. She’s the only one who really manages to be witty on camera.

When the show first came on i was annoyed and disliked duff, maryalice, etc. (always loved Geoff). But Maryalice has really grown on me. She seems to be having a ball. None of these people at CCC were the pretty, athletic, popular people in high school. They were obviously the misfits, the oddballs. And they’re all finding a measure of success in a very quirky kind of way. More power to them. I think it’s a really fun show. I don’t always enjoy their results but I enjoy seeing what they get up to. I liked Maryalice’s hair when she had it blonde for a very short while, she didn’t look quite so weird. but again, she looks happy, so i’m happy for her!
