Aaron McCargo’s Blog

Did you know Aaron McCargo has a blog? It’s true. It’s one of those free BLOGSPOT blogs (because nothing screams “professional TV personality” like a free Blogspot blog). When he’s not referring to himself as “Big Daddy” in the 3rd person, he’s referring to himself as “your favorite chef,” which is about as self indulgent and self righteous as it gets.
Today, he took it a step further and quoted scripture from the bible. Twice. Is that necessary? I respect his right to practice his religion, but to shove it down people’s throats on a FOOD BLOG is a bit much (not to mention the fact that it might alienate or offend readers who are not Catholic). Enough is enough! I’m calling for an immediate separation of church and food, and for Aaron McCargo to get over himself as quickly as possible.
One more thing: WHY are there quotation marks around the word PEEK? Few things are “more” annoying than “unnecessary” quotations marks!

THIS WEEK: Ina Garten's "beginner" recipes, new Food Network shows starting in September, thumbing through an issue of Semi-Homemade magazine, Rachael Ray's daytime talk show, Aarti's "accountability group", Claire Robinson on Big Daddy's House, another sensual reading of Alex Guarnaschelli's tweets, sink or swim voicemail, and much more.

Sunny Anderson has one of those free Blogspot blogs as well. What’s ridiculous is that with a little bit of money (of which both of them have plenty of), you can get a Blogspot or Wordpress blog designed pretty nicely. Or if you were on Livejournal and knew where to look, a great design for free.

I’m incredibly impressed. Aaron seems — am I saying this? — intelligent and articulate. His punctuation isn’t the best, but his writing skills are approximately ten billion times better than I thought they would be. I wasn’t offended by his Bible quotes. He doesn’t seem to be pushing Catholicism down anyone’s throat — he was just offering his personal feelings. I don’t think mentioning your own belief in God and His word is some sort of heavy-handed religiosity.
There’s no way in HELL that Aaron McCargo is writing that blog himself. I would bet my life and my home on it. It has to be a relative or a PR person.
I’m Catholic, and even I am annoyed when people push their religion. There is a time and a place. A chef’s blog is neither.
I don’t think he writes his blog. He credits someone else. Aside, the grammar and spelling levels are way in excess of MCargo’s capabilities.
Referring to yourself as “your favorite ANYTHING” is egotistical self righteous. Aaron has always come across that way, since episode 1 of NFNS and I’ve never liked him for that reason. Get over yourself is right!
(I don’t want to hear about his religion , either!!! If I wanted to hear more scriptures quoted to me, I’d go back to Sunday school)
amen!
“The McCargo Express”???
“Oh no he didn’t!”
Where oh where is Shanahnah from “Martin” when you need her?
He bounces back & forth between referring to himself in the 3rd person: “Big Daddy does this”, or “next, Chef does that”. That is the biggest clue that he is not writing it himself, except for a few isolated posts that clearly say “I”.
I like how half of his ‘favorite links’ are for links that pertain directly to him. How utterly self-absorbed can one be?
McCargo isn’t pushing his religious beliefs on anyone. His blog isn’t required reading. He isn’t coming to your door and asking you to buy a religious publication. People have to choose to go to his blog.
Some people live, and some people live to be offended. In general, people seem to be getting more and more hypersensitive. Frankly I can’t understand it. Perhaps people ought to consider turning off Oprah and living life, instead of playing the victim role, and looking around for any reason to be offended.
I disagree, Nancy. It’s alienating and disrespectful to people who are not Catholic. Like me. I went to his website to find info about a recipe, and saw Biblical Scripture, and was instantly turned off. That’s just my opinion. I’m not living to be offended at all – but like the author of this blog post said, there is a time and a place for religion and a tv personality’s food blog is not it.
no need to bring religion into his blog, though i guess he felt most of **his** fans would dig it haha
He has the right to post in his blog what he wants. If people choose to be offended by it, then don’t go to his blog. It is that simple. It is much ado about nothing. I stand by my statement. People are looking for any reason to be offended. Day in and day out, people are getting more and more thin skinned. It is pretty sad. In general, people want respect, but are unable to give the same respect in return.
Being turned off, and being offended, are pretty much the same thing. If I was looking for a recipe, I would ignore the stuff I didn’t like at his blog, and just look for the recipe.
People aren’t looking for any way to be offended Nancy, it seems people are looking for any way to slip in religion or god when it has nothing to do with the subject at hand.
Now I would know better than to look at his blog.
Trying to slip it in? That’s pretty cynical. Not that I care for “Big Daddy”, but have you considered the possibility that he *may* actually believe in his faith and to refer to it is natural for him? I know plenty of people who do, and if they referred to it, it would be because they found it relevant, not because they were trying to “slip it in” to take a dig at someone. He’s sure not my favorite chef, but the religious references in the blog are irrelevant.
Not hardly cynical, if he is going to have a public blog under the guise of it being about food then he is surely open to criticism.
People who abuse quotes have just never heard of italics.
Since he doesn’t write his own blog, what’s the point ?
I agree it’s pointless to criticize him for quoting scripture on the blog. That’s most likely his ghostwriter.
We should be criticizing him for being dumber than a sack of hammers.
Where did you get the idea that he was Catholic. Unless he has recently converted Aaron is Christian. I happen to know his pastor very well and he is of the pentecostal/nondenominational faith. Anyway, I don’t necessarily think there is anything wrong with bringing your faith into your life: marketplace faith. I don’t see what is offensive about it; I am more struck by his use of alcohol and drinking in the youtube post about his brother (where he is eating wings). I think he is full of himself, but I think that just shows he general immaturity with his success; hopefully he will grow from that stilted place of underdevelopment. I don’t think he is trying to shove religion down anyone’s throat; although he loss me with the reference, because he didn’t make much sense. His exegesis is sorely lacking; I am more offended that he didn’t do the passage justice than that he off-handedly mentioned the bible at all…
I’m shocked that so many are complaining about him “shoving religion down your throats” and not one person has brought up his shoving POLITICS down our throats. I don’t go to a food blog to hear about how we should all love Obama and how he’s doing the best he can and we should let him get away with jokes about the Special Olympics because “his job is hard enough.” I don’t want to hear anyone’s political views if they’re a chef on my TV and have a food blog.
What’s the salary of an FN chef?
Anyone know?
Why, why, why?! Why do I even bother to have this guy’s show on as background noise? Yesterday’s show was all about sandwiches. Yes. Sandwiches. I mean SERIOUSLY?!
One of my culinary pet peeves is a “recipe” for a sandwich.
Nothing wrong with quoting scripture as long as he’s not trying to convert you. I certainly didn’t get that feel from him at all.
McCargo is a classic example of a manufactured persona. He beat out a dozen or so contestants, half of which had no business being there.
You’re reaching into the shallow end of the talent pool when you’ve got contestants fresh out of cooking school.
The whole thing about a blog is that you can choose to read it or not. It either appeals enough for you respond or choose not to. If he chooses to talk bible, he can. If he chooses to call himself ‘your favorite cook’ he can. There are no rules because it is HIS blog and especially because it is his, not yours, you cannot get to make any rules. If it was his restaurant, you wouldn’t choose to eat there again because of whatever reason you choose – food’s not great; he keeps talking bible at you; he keeps telling you he’s your favorite chef ; or such. So you can choose not to read his blog. You can’t make rules here. You can vote with your feet as they say – walk on by!
