Newman The French Bulldog Is Totally Adorable
Posted on April 27th 2009 by Jillian Madison

We sure do snark a lot here at FNH, don’t we? But every once and awhile, something comes along that’s so adorable… so unsnarkable… that it exudes enough fuzzy warmth to melt the cellophane around our cold, dead hearts.

Meet Newman, Claire Robinson’s incredibly well behaved – and incredibly cute – French Bulldog. He was on this weekend’s episode of 5 Ingredient Fix, where he sat silently on a wooden chair not even 4 inches away from Claire’s freshly sliced duck breasts with citrus port cherry sauce. Newman didn’t make a noise, let alone try to sneak a piece of duck for himself. He patiently waited for Claire to give him a piece, at which time he politely chewed it and swallowed it down with more manners than half of the people I’ve been out to dinner with in my lifetime.

We love you, Newman!

I so want one!!! (the pooch that is)

  2. Jillian Madison says:

I should add, I have 4 well behaved chihuahuas (yes, FOUR) of my own, but there’s no way they’d be so stoic while I was preparing food. So either Newman is the best behaved dog on the planet, or Claire’s food is so awful that a dog doesn’t even want it.

  3. shalom says:

Or her show is just that boring..I watched 5 minutes of it…Not my type of show.

  4. Molix says:

Oh you may think he’s cute now, but wait until she starts selling aprons, plates, and feminine hygiene products with his face on it.

  5. jenna says:

LMAO Molix. The sad part is, I can actually see that happening. It’s probably all part of their plan. Get people to fall in love with the dog, and then roll out products with his face on it.

  6. Those are two great pictures, Newman really is adorable.

  7. Syd says:

    Adorable dog.

Molix, you suck for making be laugh so loudly at work.

  8. Syd says:

    And I suck, because I can’t type.

  9. Byrdie says:

I wonder if this dog pees on her bed just like Paula’s pooches.

  10. Turtle says:

Thanks for the laugh. I was similarly impressed with Newman’s patience and politeness.

Yeah, his presence is probably calculated, but who cares? It worked. I don’t mind being manipulated as long as they’re not too obvious about it.

I liked the episode overall and will definitely try that Earl Grey tea cookie recipe. She’s not too schticky yet, but FN probably hasn’t had enough time yet to warp her into a cartoon.

Newman is adorable!!!! I love your show hope to see Newman again…

  12. Gabriel says:

Newman is the best, he is cute and very polite!!!

  13. Cat Chow says:

the show has gone to the dogs already?

i soooooo love this dog. i actually started researching the breed b/c Newman is so cute. I found out they fart alot. I don’t know about that…

  15. susan says:

Who is this nitwit? They’ve lost Rachael Ray pretty much, and it is so painfully clear that this is the rather poor replacement, the gravelly voice, and the salt thrown over the shoulder. This is an insult to viewers intelligence.

  16. Frenchie Owner says:

Well, I’ve never seen this show but wanted to comment that French Bulldogs really are the best behaved dogs on the planet, at least mine, much like Newman, is! Regardless of how good the food smells; she waits politely for it to be offered. And although I know Frenchies are prone to flatulence; I have yet to hear/smell anything of this nature from mine… just lucky, I guess!

  17. mh275 says:

cant we get an alert when he is on? I would only watch the show for him!! Maybe they should change the name of the show to 5 ingredients with newman so it would be more watchable….. Are the 5 ingredients left after he ate everything?

  18. Denise says:

We also have a french bulldog named Newman. I couldn’t believe it when I heard about Claire’s baby. For anyone, wondering if they should get one of these adorable dogs, the answer is YES! They are so sweet and gentle, great around kids and always the comedian.
Thanks Claire for sharing your baby with us!

  19. Babs in Toyland says:

I love Newman! I also love Claire. She is so talented and I love the simplicity of her recipes. She is great!

  20. Kitty says:

Where is Newman? We watch every Monday evening and never see him anymore?
    What’s up?
    We want Newman!

  21. Nicole says:

We also have a Frenchie named Willy. Very well behaved, hilarious too! He is 9 months old and seems to be growing out of the “bad gas” phase. Had the most horrible gas 0-6 months. Anyway, I love love love the yellow French bulldog figure Claire has near her kitchen sink. Anyone now where to purchase one??

  22. Marie says:

I love that you pay tribute to the small details like an exceedingly well behaved dog. I am a new reader and love to laugh at the fact that there is such a huge following of ppl who see these things too, I had thought I was the only one…. but back to Newman, thank you for giving him the spotlight that that lil angel deserves!!
