Savannah Residents Flock To Craigslist To Complain About Paula Deen

Paula Deen. She’s such a lovable ol’ lady, ain’t she? The epitome of southern charm and class! Embraced by everyone in her Savannah community!
Yeah. And I’m the Easter bunny.
The truth is, many in Savannah really can’t stand Paula Deen. They consider her to be a demeaning caricature of all things southern, and are literally embarrassed by her. Many residents have even taken to Craigslist to complain about Paula Deen – and to let the world know that people in the south aren’t crazed loons who scream “Y’ALL” every 4 seconds.
Here’s what people on the Savannah’s Craigslist are saying about Paula Deen. Do you agree with their thoughts – or are these people just being unnecessarily harsh and judgmental?
…she thinks because SHE is Paula Deen, everything she says or does is going to be “cute”. No. She is a despicable aspect of Savannah’s image to the world, lacking in morals and common sense. Remember how she bragged in Tunica about defecating on her driveway, and niece Corrie found it? Come on, Paula is way out of control. What sort of woman behaves in such fashion time and time again? With the state of the economy , I can’t believe that there are people who are willing & stupid enough to pay $ 66.00 for 7 pounds of Paula Deen’s brand of sausage … As P.T. Barnum said there’s a fool born every minute…And, Paula Deen really knows how to take advantage of that stupidity. [link]
We are all for people making it good in Savannah, but we dislike people who are obsessed with themselves,think life evolves around them, and embarrasses Savannah by pulling her pants down on a cooking show and farting and popping in her driveway. She is why Ms. Yankee Doodle Dandy Business Owner Queen thinks we are so stupid. She thinks we act like Paula Deen. Paula Deen is white trash in my book. She has no morals, no class and is a fake. Just watch when she is seriously cooking. No drawl and the y’alls stop. But when she is trying to act the southern hick, she puts it on like thick thick molasses. Paula Deen is running scared.The economy has her in a tail spin with her panities pulled down and in a bunch. When you are on the Food Channel,have your own magazine,your own restaurant,why go on the QVC to sell your garbage? It shows me that she is not making the millions she was at one time. Hell everytime she gives a talk, she is awarded $100,000 a pop. Not too shabby. But no,she is getting GREEDY. With all her avenues to hock her wares, she has to go on QVC? Desperation,desparado, and a woman who is over her 15 minutes. We Savannanians are so over the Deen Clan and their gross outburst of pure insane antics. [link]
Old Savannah’s landed gentry, bluebloods, gentle society, however you wish to call us: none of us will ever invite the Deen clan into our midst. Can you see Paula Deen farting around The Oglethorpe Club? I don’t think so. Paula’s not a member of any church that we know of nor was she ever a member of the Junior League. None of the Deen clan are Savannah society. They are wannabes, climbers but sorry, this ladder does not admit them. If anything, the Deens’ corn-pone antics make for good laughs among the debut and cocktail party set. The way it is and always will be in Savannah: money does not buy your way in to old Savannah’s closed society. Lack of money does not keep you out. What admits you into Savannah society is good breeding and class, the very qualifications lacking among the Deen and Hiers clan. [link]

I agree with you. Why? No, we don’t think people are crude in Georgia. We now think women are catty there.
Give Paula a break. A show is a show. Don’t you have enough southern common sence to know the networks wanted all that acting. Paula might be a hick or deep down just a good old gal redneck who got a break and has used it to support her whole family. No she is not the same person. Thank God. I spoke to Paula years ago when she told me her whish was to have a restaurant on Congress Street. Talk about wishes come true. Yea that cackle laugh and drawl is sometime alot for us thought, oh my gosh, but it paid off for her. By the way Who wants to be in the so called Savannah Society. Maybe all that butter has clogged a little of her money making veins and she has gotten a little confused about the social limits on things we need to share. Come on think about it. No way someone her age can easily keep up the pace they have her going. Cut back Paula, apparently all this is affecting your true personality.
yeah. I totally don’t get the Craigslist thing either. We all have our FN hosts we love and some we hate .. and some we love to hate or hate to love. Paula’s one of these for me.
Part of me just adores her raunchy sense of humor! But then, I hang out in a lot of rough bars and have heard much much worse, and believe me, I’m in with the thickest of ‘em. My mouth’d make a sailor blush, it’s true.
And part of me cringes when I think of her live shows, the extent to which the more conservative audience must blush in horror. I guess it’s all about time and place.
As for these complaints – sounds to me like a self-fulfilling cycle. Savannah’s haute society doesn’t want Paula in their mix, and seems to me Paula’s doin’ just fine without ‘em.
I’ll tell you why they complain on Craigslist . If they complain on on any of the other websites someone deletes their posts because they’re ” negative ” .
Someone just wrote a story on their blog about going to see Paula Deen at a book signing that sort of goes along with what we’re talking about here:
“She was 20 minutes late, no apology, and then proceeded to turn her back on us while she drank her coffee. She was loud, obnoxious and very crude. I don’t care about how many times she farts or how her and her hubby have kind of farting contests, or her piehole or whether she wee wees or poo poos. Her southern accent comes and goes. Needless to say she was disgusting and crude and if you paid me I would never go see her again. Perhaps the Paula needs to remember from whence she came when she did not have a pot to pee in.”

If they offered me 2 million dollars to see her i would turn them down. She is a filthy person. They should call the health dept. She has dogs around her when she is cooking. Who does that.. She has to taste everything before it is dme. I would never eat at her restaurant or house. She can’t cook either. The stuff she puts together, looks, bad… Dog Food Bad….
No self-respecting chef or cook would wear rings while they are preparing food – jewelry can get lost, broken, food gets stuck in them. Her “bling” is showy and ostentatious. “Y’all” get it? Her jewelry is as revolting as her fat ass.
Oh, Lord. Exchange the southern accent for one from Queens, and you’ve got my brother’s (gulp) fiancee. I keep praying he will wake up and see what he’s getting into. Every time I watch Paula bat those false eyelashes while she mugs at the camera, I see my future SIL. Except she doesn’t even cook! Weaver’s chicken is about her speed. My poor brother…
I looked up the Craig’s list stuff, and the viciousness against Paula astounded me. I guess that old adage about not shitting where you live doesn’t apply to this diva!

On a personal level, I could take her or leave her. Being southern myself I don’t watch her show much because I grew up with that kind of cooking, and she’s not showing me anything I haven’t already seen. It’s beyond me why someone who considers themselves a Savannah blueblood would stoop to posting ugly comments that reek of elitist snobbery on Craigslist, of all places. Once upon a time many years ago I worked for some bluebloods in the hospitality area, and believe me, their antics and behavior put poor Paula to shame. At least she’s upfront about who and what she is. As for blueblood society – she ain’t missin’ a thing.
I also am a Southern girl of many generations and we commonly call women like Paula Deen ” white trash ” No matter how you defend her the woman is no Southern lady …

I do not recall defending her. I never said she was a lady. And yes, regardless of how much money she and her family make, they do act like white trash. At least with Paula, what you see is what you get, rather than hiding the exact same behavior behind a thin veneer of civility in so-called polite society. Having been raised in polite society and having worked there, over the years I’ve developed an appreciation for people who are upfront about themselves and their motives, even if I don’t care for them on a personal level.

But with her age and the fact that her behavior seems to have become more erratic and extreme – inappropriate public behavior and speech and the apparent inability to realize the inappropriateness. I’m seriously starting to wonder if she’s experiencing the onset of dementia. It would explain her increasing weirdness.
Please, Paula is laughing in the face of the “blue-blood”. She made her money with her own two hands. She has better things to do than to join clubs and drink tea. I’m a southern, born and raised. Paula is more like anyone I know…minus the snobs that have nothing better to do than gossip. I agree, some things she says can be a little much, but at least she’s real. God, the last craiglist comment makes me want to vomit. I live in Savannah, and the ‘elite’ that he speaks of are few and far between. And ridiculed just as much as Paula Deen. And as far as Paula goes, she really is just a big joke here. But honestly, who cares that much?
I think that ultimately you and “blue blooded” Southerners have to come to realization that the rest of the United States could not care all that much if you or others turn their nose up at Paula Deen. She is deserving of criticism and no doubt about it. However the prim and priss and elitism that these comments want to lay out for us to read honestly does read more like people being bitter (which is different from “jealousy”). They’re bitter that someone like her (and yes call her “white trash”) did make the kind of money she did, garner the fame she did, etc. It wouldn’t surprise me if these kind of people would love to dictate what one deserved to earn based on “breeding” and class. America is a meritocracy much to the dismay of the “blue bloods.”

I find it hard to believe that Savannah’s blue blood, aristocats, or whatever be the proper term take the time to post on Craig’s list? When FN stars like Paula Deen and Rachel Ray are the highest paid celebrities on FNTV it tells you one thing – they bring in the bucks for FN! Good, bad, or otherwise it must be what the majority of viewers want? (Sadly)
It would seem the progression of (un)reality TV started with Candid Camera to America’s Funniest Videos to the crap over the last ten years. Let’s hope the next stop is a sewage treatment facility.
I don’t like or dislike Paula Deen. I do not like her shows simply because her recipes never appealed to me. I can tolerate almost anyone at FN (with exception to Bobby Flay) if the menu looks appetizing.
On a personal note I have never thought that Paula Deen reflected the south, Georgia, or the self-anointed elite. She has probably helped, in part, to put the Savannah on the map and tourists arriving there will quickly discover the cities true charm and historical importance. Thank God we can all change the channel or turn the TV off. ;)

Well, There’s this as a fact, Paula and her son’s came from nothing and made something. That’s admirable in itself. To me, she is upfront and doesent pretend she is antything but who she is. Ive got some great recipes from her and that is what she is there for. Would I lie to judge her??? No, not unless I want someone to judge me. Do you realize that when you bad mouth a person, it affects them and you too? Because of Paula I would bet that Savannah has more tourism than ever before. Ive talked to people that go just because of her.
Aj im jennifer and im a true southern woman an im living in Ohio right now an I hate it. I never miss a episode of Paula deens show. Im home sick I was raised in the south an I watch her show bc I grew up eating good old southern cooking. She might have her faults from time to time but she is a great cook and when faced with challenges she pulled her self through. She did what she had to do to provide for her boys. I admire her for that we all have our faults. Unless your god!! Lol I love her I have 3to boys myself an we r moving to savannah in a month an we are super excited. WOW. All this hate towards one woman. And there are no true Savannah Blue Bloods any more. What make Savannah great is a mixture of people. From the street vendors to Paula Deen we all make this city great. I am proud of Paula! What gives you class is your ability to control you attitude and only speak well of people or not at all. To find so many people who hate Paul Deen is astounding! I for one love her show on FN. I recently had the opportunity to visit Savannah for my honeymoon and loved the city and it wasn’t because of Paula Deen. But some of these people posting on here make it hard for me to ever want to go back. To think that they spend their time bashing someone who made something of her life when she had nothing to begin with just makes me sick to my stomach! Savannah is a beautiful city and isn’t all centered around Paul Deen. Stop being so hateful and demeaning and get a life already. If Paul Deen is so bad and so crude then you are just like her, bringing your trash talk about someone else to the whole world. Love her or hate her, she’s going to be around for a while. Paula Deen’s cooking is full of fat, grease and just about everything else that can send you to an early grave.
