Food Network Gets 10 Daytime Emmy Nominations
![]() |

The 2009 Daytime Emmy nominations were announced today, and somewhere in America, Bob Tuschman popped open the bottle of bubbly he’s been saving since Bobby Flay’s first divorce. Why? Because his crew at the Food Network earned 10 out of the 280 Emmy nominations! Time to celebrate!
(Yes, I’m being a bit sarcastic, but that’s only because even NICKELODEON earned more Daytime Emmy nominations than the Food Network. The full list of nominees can be found here.)
Barefoot Contessa, Giada At Home, and Grill It With Bobby Flay were nominated for Best Culinary Program, while Ina Garten, Bobby Flay, and Rachael Ray received nominations for Best Host. Giada At Home and Guy’s Big Bite were both nominated for Outstanding Direction. And Sandra Lee was nominated for… (trying to contain my laughter)… OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN HAIRSTYLING and OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN MAKEUP. That says it all right there, folks. I love it when the punchline writes itself.

Vanessa Williams will host the awards broadcast, which will air live from Los Angeles on Aug. 30 on the CW network. Sandra Lee FTW!

THIS WEEK: Another tailgating weekend! Alex G's onion rings, an awful slow cooker experience, Ina & Jeffrey Garten's lame steak throwdown, Jennifer Hudson's annoying Weight Watchers commercial, Restaurant Impossible's cheap makeovers, and more.

Watch them not win any, Even the “best culinary program” gimme catagory.
I’d love to see a show get an Emmy! Ina, Giada or Bobby – any of the three would great. Those three generate many of my fav recipes. Let’s just hope that if Ina wins, they give her a “good” Emmy, Giada’s has NATAS completely spelled out phonetically in English AND Italian, and Bobby’s is served with grilled poblanos. with chipotles. stuffed in a squash blossom. and fried.
*giggling*
How embarrassing for Sandra Lee. She works on a FOOD NETWORK, and gets recognized not for her cooking talent or ability to prepare food… but for her HAIR AND MAKEUP. Wow.
O.M.G. Sandy’s makeup is the ugliest (and overdone) on television. Who paid who off???
What?? No “Tablescape” category???
Isn’t this the second year that Snad’s hair stylist has been nominated? *boggle*
Guy’s Big Bite definitely deserves an Emmy for best direction for making it almost look like he can cook, and not showing close-ups when he tries to do anything required of a chef. If only they made the show more exciting by using lots of lens flare and shaking the camera constantly, they would probably win an Oscar.
The sound guys should get a Medal of Honor for keeping out the crew’s snide giggles and ‘homo’ jokes as Kleetus, Guy, and that other douche they pay to play Guy’s BFF all drink milky blue fluid from a single Pier-1 fish vase that not only has a real necktie tied around it, but is stuffed with so many rainbow umbrellas that they can barely get their Krazy Straws in it.
Guy himself is almost certain to win a Nobel Prize in Medicine for his work developing new methods of culturing e.coli.
From Hairball:

Yes, Hairball, it is. And I believe Drew Carey’s stylist won last year and Drew has a buzz cut.
GO RACHAEL! GO RACHAEL! Win it all for the FN and the RR show! WHOOOO HOOOOOOOOO!!!
how is it that all this FN drivel gets nominated and Good Eats gets overlooked. Am I in the bizzarro world?
They actually have an Emmy for hair and makeup? What is the world coming too. Oh and I totally agree with “Spice Weasel” about Good Eats. That show is awesome and totally overlooked!
Remember that the Daytime Emmy awards include soap opera’s, thus the hair and makeup category. Keeping that in mind, that pretty much seals the deal that the FN shows nominated have nothing to do with reality (cooking) and more to do with daytime drama (the soaps). So, Spice Weasel, Alton Brown is TOO GOOD for a Daytime Emmy.
Yes, this is the second year Aunt Drunkie has been nominated for hair, and the sad part is that her standard bio now talks about her “Emmy nominated show.”
Byrdie, you’re so right. He don’t need no stinkin’ Emmy.
Best Makeup for Sandy is a russipe for success.
The sad part is I bet Giada is sooooo pissed she did not get the Emmy nom. for the B.S. hairstyling/makeup award.
Did anyone else notice that Sandra Lee was actually listed as a “hairstylist” for the show???????
OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN HAIRSTYLING

This is why we’ve lost the respect of the rest of the world.
