    THAT’S A HUUUUUUGE BITCH!

I HATE this woman. She is so condescending on “Chopped” and then you see her on other shows and commercials for shows, acting so sweet and nice. We already know that her character is terrible, please don’t try to market this woman for other shows as a kind person.

She is a fat, homely, condescending, horrible, unentertaining woman. Food network needs to start being a little bit more discerning in their choice of talent.

Can’t you find any nice women who aren’t superobese? Alex belongs on the Discovery channel show about the superobese that get stuck in their bedrooms and have to be lifted out on a crane!

Deuce, You little insignifacant shit. Grow up, This girl can actually cook. She aint like some of the other people that food net call stars like Emmy.

I so agree with you! She is such a b****! I remember first seeing her in a food network challenge…she couldn’t even make mashed potatoes!

Sara replied on: April 3rd, 2010 at 12:22 am

My own favorite “Chopped” moment with Alex was where she chided a contestant for sweetening his food too much in the appetizer and entree rounds, and then said, as she tasted his entree, “If you compete in the next round, I hope you won’t make it so sweet.” I just looked at my husband in disbelief and said, “Did she actually just say she DIDN’T want him to put any sweetening in his DESSERT???”

tito replied on: June 8th, 2010 at 7:17 pm

She is not only rude, but she seems to have forgotten how she competed in a Thanksgiving cooking competition when she first started out being on television. Mind you she had her own restaurant and was an executive chef. She COULDNT even make mashed potatoes.. put the turkey in last and was a hot mess. made excuse after excuse about why she did everything. then you see her judging these shows and she is a total b****tch. Rude, too judgemental and overly critical.

I hate people like that… they don’t remember the mistakes that they made and then they judge people like that

Sorry. I don’t agree with most of what has been said. I think people are looking for a TV star and not an intellegent and talented chef to do their job and judge food with awkward ingredients. No one can disaree that she is a culinary super-talent, and she is human, and she is fat like half of America. Who cares?? She does her job and is opinionated and speaks her mind which is exactly what she is supposed to be doing. So what? Have you forgotten the praising that she has done. And remember Jeffrey Zakarian, another super-talent. Morimoto mopped the floor with him on Iton Chef but should we judge him? Hell no!

  20. Laura
    June 11th, 2009

Wow, I knew she was a little larger, but never would have guessed this. I never watched her Cooking Loft show, but she can be a real snot on Chopped. Her comments are too dramatic and don’t make sense. For the love of God, I just eat my food and don’t really care to be transported anywhere. She seems to be more critical of the female chefs, but that is just my opinion.

  21. Byrdie
    June 11th, 2009

I’ve watched her Cooking Loft show (yawn). The premise is that she is teaching four or five “civilians” how to cook. Not a novice idea except the couple times I’ve watched, the students act like they’ve never even seen a kitchen before, much less put flame to saute pan. Maybe it’s designed to make her look smarter, I don’t know. All I know is I gave it a couple of shots, learned nothing and was bored out of my skull. What would be great is for the Chopped chefs to be the four that sit in judgement on the crap she cooks on her show. That would be a show I wouldn’t miss!!

  22. Erin
    June 11th, 2009

    OK, so she’s chubby. *shrug*

TxGirlinNOLA replied on: June 12th, 2010 at 1:48 am

I’m with ‘ya Erin!!!. Damn, we are all mean! The lady (recently?) had a baby! More than I can say…I’m pushin’ a size 10 and I don’t even have kids….& would probably get an F in the motherhood department (I couldn’t be counted on to get the Science Diet in the bowl regularly enough to have a cat even!)

Perhaps we have been conditioned to expect a certain body type. I know I’m guilty as charged. Paula Deen = Fattie. Giada = Hottie. Rachel Ray = borderline fattie. Sandra Lee = potential hottie minus completely bizarre strangeness = simply scary. Chef Anne = “wow how did that happen….who kept ordering drinks” hottie. (I confess, I have a major crush on Chef Anne!!! :-)

Anyway, shame on me for judging somebody for their genetic engineering!! I live in New Orleans and one of this City’s all-time favorite chefs is Chef Paul Prudhomme….a little passe but still beloved amonsgst his NO bretheren. Truth is, the man can’t even make it through a whole meal standing up. Seriously. He is so big he has to sit during the filming of his shows. More or less a turn off (shame on me) in my book, but he is still respected around here. Crazy double standard we have & I’m as guilty as anybody.

The only person that has a free pass to look like that is my husband’s ex-wife….lol….who, by the way, would way trump Alex G on Sir Mix Alot’s dance card…. and whose fat ass is, happily, at least 2 sizes larger than my ever-expanding “I haven’t been to pilates in months” ass hands down. (I wouldn’t be so mean if she hadn’t been a total bitch to my having met her husband 8+ years post-their-divorce and my offering to meet her over coffee one day one-on-one instead of dealing with all of the family-hoopla..to which she responded: “I can assure you there will never be a reason for us to meet? WTF…. !!!!) Anyway, her ass really is huge and I’m happy to share that with the world..classy of me, huh…. lol

Enough about that though…. I see my therapist on Tuesday…lol….,

Anyway, Alex has a facial expression that kills me. My husband and I actually refer to her as “Alex..doesn’t like anything…Guernaschelli.” lol I’m not sure it is warranted but it is so damn funny. She can look at something like she thinks it is absolutely disgusting and then, very calmly declare, this is the best _____ (insert dish) i have ever tasted.” lol Cracks us up every time.

Thinking on it, I’ve never seen Alex from the waist down. Now we all know why.

I’m not going to slam her for her weight but I will stick my nose up at the way she acts. She’s so stuck on herself, just another pretentious TV personality who thinks she’s a goddess. Obviously, she has tasted good cooking and it’s all gone to her thighs.

Wow, this is quite shocking. At one point, this girl was kind of cute and since she had real chef credentials, FN were all over her to participate in their various shows.I’m sure a few at FN had golden franchise written all over her.

She seems ok, except on Chopped. Her over-reacting along with the Hispanic guy with the faux hawk’s over-reacting makes me not want to watch what otherwise is an enjoyable show. Me and my wife are food afficionados, while watching this new show Chopped w/c of course Alex is one of the judges. my god shes didnt even touch or tasted one drop of the contestants food and here she is blaberring “oh its too much capers to my liking”! “oh its too soggy to my eye” DUH??? why be a judge if you cant appreciate what the contest is about!!! i mean get real!!!! eat and taste the labor of this chefs not look at the dish and say stupid senseless comments to it.I vote to take her out of the show! Well, Debra, if anyone is what you called Alex, I would say you are the one. That kind of language isn’t necessary to describe your feelings. You should be kicked off & never allowed to voice your nasty opinion EVER AGAIN. You probably can’t even boil water w/o burning it. So learn to use a little more discretion when insulting others. You, my dear are just trash. There are schools teaching “ENGLISH, AS A 2ND LANGUAGE”. Perhaps you would learn new words to describe your nasty language…..GOD FORBID IF EVERYONE HAD YOUR NASTY ATTITUDE.

Heather replied on: January 12th, 2010 at 5:38 pm

I find it amusing that you two ladies lost your minds over her using the “c word” when the “b word” has been mentioned 30 times to describe her on this page. I don’t see why women go crazy over one and not the other.

    |
anniemary replied on: December 20th, 2009 at 4:20 pm

Debra, please don’t insult those of us who are here to enjoy the fun of food. Your language is unacceptable and a little on the ignorant side. If that is the only word you can come up with to describe Alex, then you need some serious vocabulary lessons. Profanity is just a substitute for brains and intellect.

  43. Carnivorous Hottie
    September 7th, 2009

Big deal if she’s got a big butt…it’s not like she’s in the business of fitness, she’s in the business of food. Aaron Sanchez along with many other very talented chefs did not win The Next Iron Chef..so that means they’re not worthy of any praise or recognition? Silly. Michael Symon won and went on to host “Dinner Impossible” but then lost it back to the original chef, Robert Irvine. Does that mean Michael Symon is a talentless hack? I think not. These people will kick all of our asses in the kitchen and let’s take a gander at the overweight male chefs i.e. Mario Batali, that looks like he could stroke-out at any minute from obesity. Who cares if she’s overweight..she’s not doing fitness videos.

    |
Trini replied on: May 16th, 2010 at 9:05 am

Right on Hottie, you said it. it was weird how when she was in competitions she seemed so unsure of herself and now she is all that. Her new(?)show where she’s cooking in the kitchen by herself makes me want to eat, she seems so passionate about the food-that works for me with her, Guy, Rachel even Ina-she really loves her food, no lo cal offerings there-which is fine! Mario I know is the best of the best but I just can’t watch him, one day he is going to stroke out! Just my two cents.

I’ve really seen little criticism of the Chefs of food network here, albeit Booby Flay is an easy target.
You have to admit it is a rare shot of someone we do see a bit on FN. I think it is a little sad that they are primarily used as judges on chopped or other odd segments like “Fried food that made me want to masturbate”. I sure as hell would love to see Alex or Michael COOKING over having to watch Fieri do something odd with his signed fridge.

Ummm, Debra, that’s a rather strong word, dontcha’ think?? But seriously, of all the chefs on Food Network, Alex Guarnaschelli is definitely my least favorite due to her condescending/demeaning tone. She somewhat reminds me of my mean ass mother-in-law!

As an award-winning chef/owner of a three-star restaurant in NYC, I have had the opportunity to meet very many chefs who are immensely talented and very well-respected in the industry. Alex is not one of them. I hate to speak ill of fellow chefs, but I don’t consider her a real chef so it’s ok. …palate than she does(sorry, damn touchscreen phone keys are to small for my bug ass fingers). She has eaten at my restaurant, as well as the restaurants of fellow colleagues. She is incredibly rude, especially to the wait staff. She also makes ridiculous demands of the kitchen and tries to throw her wait around because she is on food network. As a ’supposed’ chef, she ought to know better than to behave like that in another chef’s establishment. I wasn’t terribly impressed when I ate at Butter, but I didn’t give her a hard time, and I sure as hell didn’t take it out on her wait staff. She is not held in high regard by her colleagues, which is also true of many of the food network hosts. Some were once great, like Emeril, but most are mediocre home-cooks at best. I really hope they change out the entire lineup of judges on Chopped. Maybe then I can actually watch it without wanting to throw the remote at the television. Get Bayless as a judge. He is a class-act.

I HAVE MY DOUBTS YOU ARE FOR REAL AFTER READING YOUR COMMENTS. IF SO…………..YOU ARE JUST AS BAD AS ALEX. AND I HAVE TO HEAR HER BEHAVE AS YOU ALL CLAIM. HOWEVER, I DO NOT WATCH “CHOPPED”…I HATE “THROWDOWN w/ BOBBY BLAY” OR HIS OTHER “TEACHING” SHOW, THAT’S JUST AN EXCUSE TO COP A FEEL FROM ALL THE GIRLS. I APPLAUD THE ONE YOUNG LADY OF A MONTH OR SO BACK WHO REFUSED HIS TOUCHING AND OFFERED HER HAND INSTEAD. I NEVER WATCH THE “IRON SKILLET” OR WHATEVER IT’S CALLED. I WANT ONLY THE CHEFS, ONE ON ONE. TALK OF FAT? WHAT ABOUT EMERIL? LOOKS AS IF HE’S IN THE RUNNING FOR

She’s definitely no string bean, but I think this was just a very bad angle. And I think everyone is exaggerating her attitude. The name of the show is called Chopped! Do you think they’re there to offer helpful suggestions? No, they’re there to rip apart every last detail of the food presented. I find her and Amanda Freitag to be the most palatable of the Chopped judges.

Also, if you’re going to be sitting in judgement of someone else’s food, you had damn well better have your own food knowledge locked down. She does not. I remember in one episode she was whining that there were mustard and caraway seeds in Indian rice. Guess what sweetie, that is how it is supposed to be cooked. Just because your limited palate doesn’t like an ethnic dish does not make it wrong. The other two judges had no problem with it. And let me take this opportunity to say that Chris Santos is a complete horse’s ass. Judging is one thing, but where does he get off sitting up there giving lectures to accomplished chefs for their own “professional growth” when he has barely done anything himself. That’s akin to a culinary student telling Hubert Keller how to cook French food. The arrogance of these hacks never ceases to amaze.

Damn! I just wrote a note to Food Network expressing my displeasure with the condescending, disrespectful judging on Chopped. An FN search to make sure I was spelling Guarnaschelli correctly brought me here. Looks like I’ve found my tribe. The photo is certainly unflattering but I don’t really care much about her appearance – it’s the over-the-top behavior as judge that I can’t stand to watch. Doesn’t FN read this stuff?

@Chefs Hubby – Welcome to the best damn site on the internet! And forget writing FN about anything. Unless you’re giving them your credit card number to buy some of their overpriced crap, they ain’t interested in hearing from you.

People that I cannot stand on Food Network:

Alex Guarnaschelli (everything you say is the least bit profound)

Girl Fieri (please stop that horrid cackling fake laugh)

    Alton Brown (condescending nerd)

Scott Conant (total douche…take off those glasses)

Jeff Zakarian (i can smell the dick on his breath through the tv)

The one I was borderline on is Ann Burrell. She’s a guy version of Girl Fieri, and she looks like a dinosaur.

For what it’s worth, I just met Ms. Guarnaschelli this past week at the Food Network Wine and Food Festival in NYC. She was absolutely lovely and gracious! She is not overweight when you see her in person this photo is really not a representation of what she really looks like. She is beautiful as a matter of fact! Of all of the celebrity chef’s I have met over the past year working with the NYC and Miami Wine and Food Festivals she was by FAR the most friendly and approachable. The only others who even came close were Sunny Anderson and Guy Fieri. She was so wonderful to meet.

Maybe she’s nice in real life. I can’t say. All I know is she’s a c*nt on Chopped.

Also, to people saying that’s not what she looks like in real life. Of course it is. It’s exactly what she looks like. Look at this screen cap of her walking down the street that I just took from the Food Network promo of Alex’s Day Off.

I am so happy to have discovered this site; I have been marveling for weeks at how condescending and obtuse she is as a judge. I get that the network wants dramatic personalities, but she is taking her 15 minutes a little too seriously. The thing that bothers me about her immenseness is that she seems to be projecting her self-loathing onto the contestants. Anyway, I’m glad that this site exists to let me say my piece. Peace.

  79. Jon McKenzie
    October 25th, 2009

Sometimes this site can be gut-busting funny. But there is a huge difference between FUNNY and SNARKY. Of late, it has been falling too often on the Snark side.

  80. byrdie
    October 25th, 2009

Jon, perhaps you should read other threads on this site. You will quickly notice that those that have talent and something genuine to offer are referred to in a loving and respectful manner (Alton Brown is a great example). Then there are those on FN who have nothing to offer and are on FN for no other obvious reason than somewhere down the line, money exchanged hands (Aunt(hic)(erpff)Sandy, the can-opening, store-bought cake, cocktail chugging ass-clown comes to mind).

That brings me to Alex “Gu-wanna-piece-a-me”. Her appearances on Chopped have brought to the forefront her inability to show respect or anything constructive, only nasty, rude, mean-spirited comments as she glares at the chef she is crucifying. Thus, since my momma taught me that you EARN respect by giving respect, well, she deserves nothing but snark in return.

    Does this help clarify??

  81. October 25th, 2009

    Byrdie @ Jon, well put!

It might also be said Jon that Tuschman’s pretty SNARKY towards his loyal FN watchers. He treats us to repetitive-themed programming, elevates non-talent such as Melissa D’Arabian and Sunny Anderson, promotes blantantly sleezy shows such as The Neelys and Giada, and remains completely NON-responsive to us. For example, instead of answering complaints from NFNS, he starts up a self-absorbed, toot-your-own-horn sham of a website: ilovethefoodnetwork.com site. It’s laughable.

So, excuse the humorous, sometimes snarky comments here, we’ve EARNED the right! Have a nice day :)

  82. October 25th, 2009

    Re: Jon,
This site has been snarky LATELY? This post is from June. It’s almost November. That’s 5 months ago.

  83. Jon McKenzie
    October 25th, 2009

Okay, Jillian. You’re right. The SITE in general is sometimes gut-busting funny, sometimes snarky, but most of the time just blah. What this thread in particular (which still draws comments) has done is serve to remnind me why I seldom read comments. Too many people who post here seem to have taken the last train to Snarksville.

Oh goodness leave her alone. Yea sometimes she seems bitchy, but my goodness don’t we all. Her hard attitude is what is kind of neat about her, she takes no prisoners that’s for sure heh As for her size. For me, makes her real, she struggles. At least she does not slurp and eat her arm when she is cooking for us like Dean does.

That is one very big butt. She’s gonna have that big ass for life. Bigger the butt, the badder the attitude.

  89. November 9th, 2009

Sandra said “If that’s real then she has a very unfortunate body shape, worse than Rachael Ray.”

Wow, that’s a really dumb thing to say. Some guys like women with wider hips, like um, me. Rachel Ray is really hot, probably way the Hell hotter then you are.

  90. Joe Beese
    November 15th, 2009

Yeah, she always seemed like a bitch on “Chopped”. But I gotta say… she is totally doing it for me on “Alex’s Day Off”. Despite being oddly put together, she’s sexy in that Nigella way that Giada strives for but can’t pull off.

  91. November 15th, 2009

have you seen alex’s day off? both my boyfriend and i agree, she’s the sexiest woman on television!

  93. November 22nd, 2009

This explains why we never see a camera shot below her bosom… probably has it written in her contract.

  94. Humpty Dumpty
    November 30th, 2009

It’s pretty clear why this woman has gone from an average, great chef, to an angry hog. Hey Alex, STOP EATING! IT WORKS!

It’s no wonder why they hide her on the FN, and only show her for a second, when they do flash the camera on her.

just a couple years ago, she was an average, normal person; now she has become a hippo, but you will NEVER see it on the Food Network. What you will see is an angry, sarcastic, know-it-all, who really is just a mediocre cook. Just look at that show where she f**cked up mashed potatoes? The most basic, easiest thing to NOT f**k up, and she did it, and now she is this ’self-important’ “judge” on these worthless shows? What a sad bunch of crap.

  95. George Wahshingtun
    November 30th, 2009

All the “reality” shows now focus on negativity and tragedy. You will see a minute of the actual show, then you’ll see 5 seconds of someone saying what a “tragedy” this or that was. Then another minute, then another spot-tragedy.

It seems like one person is producing all these stupid shows, but it is just a bunch of stupid 20-somethings, copying each other.

And we can either watch this sh*t, or turn off the TV…I am going to choose the latter from now on…I’m sick of these losers who have gone from real life, to their 15 minutes of “real” tv. And hopefully this Alex elephant will watch all her screw-ups on her tryout shows in the past, and then find another line of more suitable work…what a hypocrite.

Alex Guarnaschelli’s negative energy is the reason I have not turned on my television in three months.

  99. WorkingChef
    February 2nd, 2010

She is a fat nobody now on food network….if she was a ‘real chef’, she would be working her ass off every night, like real genuine cooks do, every day, not sitting on her fat ass judging others, with her fat nasty, know-it-all snarly attitude…maybe Foodnetwork thinks this bullshit sells advertising, but it’s a loser all the way…if it was a winner, the cameras would show her fat huge ass.

Every time I see this angry, fat bitch, I change the channel.

When is the last time this bitch ran a line, or worked an honest 10-hour day prepping food?

If you know your tv history, this dumb pretender actually messed up mashed potatoes on a tv show. When I was in culinary school, making mashed potatoes for 200 people, was one of my first challenges. It was not that hard. Then when I cooked for 300 people every night at my job, it became easy, and a no brainer, with lots of compliments.

I am much happier cooking, than sitting on a tv show putting down other cooks live in person…she must feel like a real winner, sitting on her fat ass, judging others with her smarmy, nasty attitude.

When I worked full-time in a restaurant, there’s no way I would have had the time nor energy to do TV shows or judge “Chopped” or anything else. I guess her restaurant is a lot more forgiving than mine would have been!

    February 17th, 2010

Okay for you fat women out there why do you need to be an a-hole because of the insecurity in your life. I’ve met your type over and over again which I neglect to hire. It’s not because of weight and/or appearance but attitude.

I can care less that you’re overweight, but in the position of power don’t hurt those that are in a weight class that is slimmer then you.

Alex is an ass but that might be television. I’d say to her “pick and choose your food network life.” It’s great to be a critic, but bad to just hate for the sake.

  102. urk
    February 26th, 2010

Meh. I don’t see the issue. So she’s overweight. And? So is a vast portion of the population. The amount of “overweight = bitch” hate here is quite the case study in irony.
And her attitude on Chopped? Pfft. Her character on that farce of a show is as much an act as the look of surprise on the faces of the “chefs” when they discover that they’re going to have to make a dessert using turnips, a can of sardines, a bag of romaine lettuce, and a jar of pickled capers.
This is the same show on which one of the judges declared unequivocally that no Italian restaurant, ANYWHERE, serves fish with cheese. Caro mio, apriti gli occhi e chiuditi la bocca.

Karen replied on: May 3rd, 2010 at 9:03 pm

AMEN! And I believe the judge to which you are referring is the borderline psychotic Scott Conant, whose bellicose attitude bothers me far more than Alex’s arrogance. For those who can’t recall, Scott would be the one who easily became “highly offended” and “angry” over the use of raw onions in a dish. He clearly could benefit from some counseling. And now back to my raw onion sandwich!

SaraCVT replied on: May 3rd, 2010 at 9:18 pm

I don’t like raw onions, either. But, dude, pick ‘em off, and eat the rest. I do. I swear it’s not hard and your life will not be ruined forever. My kindergartener is less picky than you. And she’s almost underweight, she’s so picky.

I follow her on Twitter–never know what she might say. And I have to say, she kind of scares me, because all she says is–food. She’s craving a doughnut; the other day she wanted a pressed sandwich with lots of ham, cheese, mayonnaise, and lettuce; she tells us about a great restaurant or bakery she hasn’t been to in a while or what she’s making at Butter; every Tweet describes food in a loving way. This is why you’re overweight, Alex!

  106. April 18th, 2010

I enjoy the show Chopped, but when she is on, oh man what a bitch with a capital B. Not to mention all the other “judges” on that show. I would love to see her fat ass do what the competitors are doing, oh wait there is not that much room between the stove and cook station for her. To see her sneer down her nose when she makes a comment, oh man I would just love to slap her. Hell if I were on that show and she started in with her crap, I’d tell her, you get up and try this. Oh I just love it when AAron Sanchez is on, he plays the mexican card only when it’s a mexican word, out comes the accent then. LOL what a joke that is.

    July 25th, 2010

I happy to like Alex a lot. I think she’s simple, a woman that truly loves life and the simplicity of food. I believe that her passion for food and life definitely shines through in her cooking. I have read some not so good comments towards Alex, and well if Alex truly cared about every person’s opinion of her, I don’t believe her life and career would be where its at. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of others, and nothing we can say or do can stop people from voicing their opinions, but I have nothing but good things to say about Alex and I don’t know her personally. I connect to Alex because of simplicity and because of her passion for food and the art of Culinary. I love cooking, its my passion, unfortunately I just don’t know where to begin with it or how to make it my career. I have so much education in business. Would be great to meet her some day and learn more about cooking and how to transform my passion into a reality!

I think you are wonderful Alex!

  113. July 27th, 2010

I find her to be extremely condescending and rude! She’s a total bitch. I tried watching her cooking show and couldn’t get past the first 5 minutes.

  114. Caitlin
    July 28th, 2010

I cannot STAND this chick. It has nothing to do with her size. Whether she were a size 2 or a size 22 she’s still a bitch. I LOATHE her on Chopped. She’s an arrogant, overly dramatic, unpleasant, hateful, spiteful, mean spirited, self important, soul sucking shrew. I honestly think she’s MORE unpleasant than Kerry Vincent on Challenge…at least Kerry isn’t just hateful for the sake of being hateful and her criticisms have some basis in reality. If fondant is cracked, then its cracked. If scale is off, then scale is off. Most of the time even if I don’t care for how she delivers her criticisms, w/Kerry I can at least concede her point. This chick just pulls stuff out of thin air and criticizes just to hear herself speak. I once saw a contestant give Alex what she described as “a perfect plate” and the bitch STILL wasn’t satisfied. Said she couldn’t find fault with it, but she still wasn’t happy. I hate this horrid woman.
