Remember last year, when the Food Network screwed up and inadvertently revealed on their website that Aaron McCargo won Next Food Network Star… before the finale episode even aired? Well, in the wise, wise words of Britney Spears, “Oops – They Did It Again” – though luckily for them, on a slightly smaller scale.
This time around, they didn’t leak the ultimate winner. They did, however, accidentally reveal the winner of this weekend’s un-aired Red Lobster challenge in the form of a website ad that popped up while viewers watched a preview of the new episode.
(WARNING: SPOILER ALERT! Stop reading here if you don’t want to see this weekend’s winning Red Lobster dish. However, if you want to see photos of another epic Food Network screw-up, click through and keep reading after the jump!)
FNH reader Matt sent us a hilarious email about his experience with the Red Lobster reveal. He said: “I was watching the videos of this week’s TNFNS on Food Network’s website and I got an advertisement for Red Lobster on the side, which listed the winner of Sunday’s challenge. It’s a “Wood Grilled Tilapia with a Spicy Soy Broth”. Two thoughts on that…One, that sounds revolting. Two, it sounds like America’s Most-Hated Korean wins again…kill me now please.”
Here is a screenshot of the Red Lobster ad, along with a cropped close-up for good measure:

(Thanks for the tip, Matt!)

Either it’s Debbie or one of them wised up and figured that the judges would go gaga over faux-Asian.
Mmmm…tilapia. Good fish.
Judging by use of soy…an asian component…im guessing that’s Debbies dish. *sigh*
Wait, maybe Melissa went to college with an Asian and she taught her this dish. She has all these stories, there has to be an Asian somewhere in here life.
Well Debbie is the only one who’s never won a challenge! The use of soy certainly points to her as the winner. I’m with Mike. Big sigh.
Greed led to that screw up! I just got the same ad on the side of the page while watching a video about Michael’s elimination.
Thanks for ruining the outcome of this weekend’s episode, Food Network. Appreciate it!
“Spicy Soy broth” lmao; lets just hope someone else makes an Asian style dish, although we all think Debbie was “pre chosen” to win, I hope the Food Network understands all their viewers hate her. Hopefully (and I keep telling myself) that during the Red Lobster challenge, they switch the finalist’s main ingredients, all I can think of is when Bobby says to take her Asian ingredients away, hopefully, they go to someone else. It makes sense too, in the last season, when it was down to the final 4 and they were in Vegas, they had to make the signature dish of someone else
It actually may not be Debbie. If you go to Red Lobster’s site you can see a better preview of the episode. In it they take away all of Debbie’s asian ingredients so we might luck out with her not winning this challenge.
I figured from the beginning that Debbie was the pre-chosen winner, but they certainly haven’t been painting her in a very flattering light. Maybe there’s hope that she goes home this week? Nah, I didn’t think so.
Lo, they have two challenges: one held at the hotel they’re staying in and another in some studio for an on-air demo challenge, where I think Bobby takes away her Asian ingredients. Debbie could still win.
hey guys I don’t know if you have been on FN’s website but there is a poll asking who you would vote off and right now Debbie is at 49% and well voted for over everyone else. I urge you all to go and vote for her. My only hope is that FN doesn’t turn it around and use that as the vote to see who stays
Soy Sauce! Because, of course, she’s Korean!
@Baus
doing that poll will have no bearing on who actually gets sent home since the actual filming of TNFNS is already done.
My question is why in heavens is Debbie crying her heart out in the promo? She says she was soooo hurt.
In the promo, Why is Debbie crying and saying she was sooo deeply hurt? If she’s the winner, that can take away the hurt, right?
Guess Debbie’s going for the audience sympathy?
Sorry – phony tears don’t fly at my house.
They’re going to need a new Emmy category – ‘most dramatic performance by a wannabe FN star.’
I don’t know if its Debbie. At the end of the last episode, there was a scene for “Next time on NFNS” and it showed Bobby saying, “Ok, take all of her Asian ingredients away.” and he was talking about Debbie.
So, if that is in fact the same challenge, then the winning dish is not Debbie’s.
Seems like there’s been some kind of drama involving Debbie in every episode so far. Every time I see a commercial, there’s Debbie crying over something else. As if it wasn’t already painfully obvious who was gonna win.
We should be the ones crying, not Debbie.
I agree that it might not be Debbie since Booby took away all her “Asian” ingredients. I guess no one else has enough of a vision to have food taken from them, so soy could be fair game for the other 3.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see. I totally forgot about the whole “lets take her asian ingredients away” snippet from the preview.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they took them away for the red lobster challenge.
MMMMMMM…. Tilapia… Usually Farmed raised fish, simply loaded with the toxins of every thing they are eating. The fish food is SIMPLY LOADED WITH all sorts of concentrated toxins, that’s why I eat only wild caught fish (labeling as such required these days)….. or, thank you, the local lakes have been stocked with these really delicious fish, in which case, they are “wild”. The rub is, you have to be a fisherman, or fisherwoman, and catch, clean and fillet them yourself! No Rachael Ray (or any other kind of) Lazy Bastards Need Apply.
As for Debbie’s “Asian cooking” ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!
Hey Gringo, mr.rayray here. Good to see you found the place. :-)
And I agree. Debbie’s “Asian” cooking rivals PF Chang’s. Possibly.
Hey, maybe one of the people she screwed over earlier took over her shtick and trumped her with a better Asian dish than she can make!!! That would be wicked cool.
Tilapia is the tofu of fish; it has absolutely zero flavor, which sort of makes it perfect for Red Lobster and FN.
It’s 8:54 Eastern…six minutes before the show airs…my cable is out. DRAT!!! Curse you, Comcast!!! I think that the whole ‘take away Shamu’s ingredients’ thing will be that each person’s flavorings will be switched (Melissa has citrus that is taken away and Shamu’s Asian stuff will be gone…so I think they’ll be switching the flavorings).
[...] Time for the infamous Red Lobster challenge (that the Food Network accidentally revealed the winner of on their website last week). The [...]
Well thank TPTB that Debbie lost her ingredients and lost the challenge. She’s a 1st Class Drama Queen with a minor in pathological lying.
Melissa & Jeffrey shouldn’t have any trouble beating this 1 trick pony if they just HANG ON and hang in. Is it just me, or has Bobby Flay become supremely anti-Debbie????? Lovin’ it!!!
And for her part, Jamika would do well as an On The Road hostess, taking that show from the Neely’s, who took it from The Deen Bros, who took it from that nice lady, whatshername (but was of a certain demographic that Jamika knows to well, if you catch my drift).
All I have to say is thank goodness it wasn’t really that lying whore Debbie who won! I wish she’d choke on some of that kimchee she’s always talking about and die.
I just saw the Red Lobster ad. Since Jeffry had the Asian ingridients this week and Debbie was caperlessly Mediterrenean [sic], obviously RL Is using his recipe but is substituting Tilapia for the fish he used. I forget what it was. Jamika shot herself in the foot by acting all angry. I still think the fix is in. Every week they catch Debzilla lying, and are then surpised when she lies the following week.
Who gives a shit about whose recipe won? Red Lobster is a disgusting restaurant and anyone who thinks it is good is inbred.
Wow, you people are racist! You think because it’s soy that it’s an asian person! Wow, and by the way I work as a server at Red Lobster we all got to try it and I say don’t knock it til you try. It’s pretty darn good!
@ Jessica:
Do you not watch the show? Debbie’s comfort zone is with Asian or Korean spices so there is nothing racist about any of the comments.
Jeffrey selected barramundi for his challenge, but they took over his CalMex spices and substituted some “Asian” flavorings to take hime out of his comfort zone which he says encompasses the entire World’s cuisine, ie “cooking without borders.” Bobby Flavor Flay called the dish à la nage, which is a good name for this swimmy fish dish.
Red Lobster switched the fish to tilapia, and charge $17.75 for this dish.
I’m glad Debbie is out of the running. She has alot to learn about honesty. If she had cried one more time I would have screamed! Did she think that was a way to get to the TOP?
Wait!
Debbie Lee is Korean!?
