- Aug 1, 2009: Most Disgusting Looking Food Ever: Rachael Ray’s Rouladen « Food Network Humor

THIS WEEK: Ina Garten's "beginner" recipes, new Food Network shows starting in September, thumbing through an issue of Semi-Homemade magazine, Rachael Ray's daytime talk show, Aarti's "accountability group", Claire Robinson on Big Daddy's House, another sensual reading of Alex Guarnaschelli's tweets, sink or swim voicemail, and much more.

The fact that 2 of the 5 came from Sandra Lee shouldn’t surprise anyone.
It would help if they hired a professional photographer. Even I can tell the food is badly lit and the photos are over-exposed to make up for that. I’ve seen more appetizing pics of cat regurge.
God DAMNIT! That was so nasty! (yet, I’m laughing)
Perfect timing too. It’s getting close to lunch and I’m trying to diet. This helped.
Rather nasty.
Maybe Sandy was spending too much time with her “weekend kids” to give a shit about how that food looks rather barf-a-licious…
Where are McCargo’s contributions ?
I’m sure there are plenty of other disgusting looking dishes on FoodNetwork.com – if you guys find any, email ‘em in and we’ll post them down the road!
I don’t think I will ever eat eggplant again. And what the heck is the red ooze in the quesidalla? This stuff is plain gross-out.
The eggplant thing is a showcase recipes on the website. How can you tell what’s in it? It kinda looks like mussel shells and algae that were puked up by a sea animal. Is there walnuts in it too? Does the quesadilla have teeth in it?
Don’t these people use food stylists? And don’t get me started on the bad photography. Switching from film to digital has made photographers LAZY. I love Photoshop, but damn! Get it right in the camera, and you won’t have to use it!
EEEEeeeeewwwwww.
Man! Some bad news right there.
You would think with the amount of money FN makes they could imagine to make their food look appealing. Yuck! Some of those meals do not even sound appetizing.
FN can produce a food stylist FN Challenge episode, but apparently can’t find a decent one to rep their online recipes. Shit, just have Ina take some pics with her digital camera while she’s instructing TR on how to cook a steak.
No photos of 30-Minute-Mistakes by Rachael Ray?
You’re twisted, Jillain.
I still can’t believe that top picture isn’t of mussels. And those quesadillas look like some scary-ass creature from the sea somebody blogged about on another website not too long ago. Wish I could remember the name….racking my brain right now…
Those do look bad, but as professional photographer I would have to say most of those photos look like video screen captures, which aren’t exactly lit the same way a food still photographer would light them.
Katie, are you thinking of that ugly zit looking sea thing that Zimmern had a bite of when he was in Equador? Well, I think it was Equador…somewhere in South America anyway…
These pics are what I have to look forward to after coming home from my vacation?
I think I vomited a little in my mouth.
I bet they are all Roachel Rays
Wow. These look really gross. LOL @ “Roachel Rays”.
Rachael Ray’s “rouladen” is #1 in my book. I just want to see the episode that it’s from to see if it looks this nasty on TV.

@Byrdie – No, not that. It was something from Serious Eats a little while back, some wonky sting-ray-but-not-really looking thing, with a female name and some type of fisherman’s lore. There’s something about it on Wikipedia, too. I wish I could remember the name. I keep thinking it’s something like “Hannity,” but it was even scarier looking than that Fox News nutjob.
[...] we posted the 5 most unappetizing recipes on Food Network’s website. We failed to mention Rachael Ray’s Rouladen, which is [...]
@Katie, Gosh I don’t know. But if you think of what it is, let me know. Hannity? Maybe it’s “Colmes”!! Ha!
@Bonzy-Roachal Ray! Too funny!
Oh dear here are some more nominations:

(I think they just have a vat of vomit at TFN and pour it over any food they make.)
If I had a copy I’d add to the list: one of my grainy cookie recipes, printed in a major newspaper in black and white. They looked like something that came out of a horse!
Wow, you could give James Lileks a run for his money. Check out his “Gallery of Regrettable Food.”
