Ina Garten, Bobby Flay Win Daytime Emmys
Posted on August 31st 2009 by Jillian Madison

Quick 2009 Daytime Emmy Awards update: The Food Network took home a paltry 3 Emmys this year (out of the 280 awarded).

Grill It with Bobby Flay won the Emmy award for Best Culinary Program. Grill It beat Barefoot Contessa, Giada at Home, Gourmet’s Diary of a Foodie, and Simply Ming. (I don’t know about all of you, but I’m sad to live in a world where a sweaty man grilling mediocre looking food on a rooftop represents the cream of the culinary programming crop.)

Ina Garten won the 2009 Emmy for Outstanding Lifestyle/Culinary Host for her work on Barefoot Contessa. She beat Rachael ray for 30 Minute Meals, Bobby Flay for Grill It, Peter Ishkhans for Peter Perfect, and Ming Tsai for Simply Ming. (Poor ol’ Ming just can’t catch a break.)

Anne Fox won the Emmy for Outstanding Directing In A Culinary/Lifestyle Program for Giada At Home. They beat out Guys Big Bite, The Martha Stewart Show, and This Old House.

Rachael Ray won the Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show, but who the hell even cares about her anymore? She spends her days kissing actors’ asses. She’s become completely irrelevant in the culinary world.

Finally, and most hilariously, Sandra Lee… who was nominated for OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN HAIRSTYLING and OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN MAKEUP… went home empty handed. She lost both categories to the women of The View.

Don’t feel bad, Sandra. Pick up some more blue eye shadow and a pretty new hairbrush. There’s always next year.

Aunt Sandy needs a “TV personality who can hold his/her liquor” category.

  2. natalia says:

    i hate grill it.
bobby flay grilling on a rooftop with some amateur while pretending to be impressed.
    sign me up.

  3. Mo says:

    Poor Ming indeed.

I LOVE his show. His food always looks soooo tasty! Maybe he lost because he’s on PBS and not some crazy channel like FN. Boo

  4. jer says:

How is it possible that Rachael Ray can be nominated for an Emmy? How bad could her competition be? Tuned in her show once and could only hack about 5 minutes of her prodigious ass kissing of c-list celebrities. Ray and Fieri are prime examples of whats wrong with this country. Love your site.

  5. Turtle says:

Well, RR isn’t a producer on her talk show, so even though it’s won two years now, she didn’t get a statue.

She wasn’t a producer when “30MM” won a few years ago, either.

Michael Chiarello, Paula Deen, Giada, Bobby Flay and now Ina have won Emmys in recent years, but not RR yet.

  6. Laura says:

Here are some of the other winners: 1. Best cooking show hosted by the mentally challenged: Down Home with the Neelys; 2. Most basic vocabulary on a cooking show: Giada de Laurentiis; 3. Unhealthiest recipes on a cooking show: Paula’s best dishes; 4. Most shameless attempt to secure a payday for mooching unemployed relatives: Paula Deen.

“Anne Fox won the Emmy for Outstanding Directing In A Culinary Program for Giada At Home. They beat out Guys Big Bite, The Martha Stewart Show, and This Old House.”

Since when is This Old House a culinary program? I’ve watched it for years and never once seen Norm don an apron.

  8. chefcatt says:

    Hairbrush or airbrush?

“Rachael Ray won the Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show, but who the hell even cares about her anymore? She spends her days kissing actors’ asses.”

Remember Rosie O’Donnell’s show? RR’s made a similar progression of sweaty-palms, near-hyperventilation when meeting Hollywood’s elite, and then becoming just like them.

  10. DesignerJeans says:

Good for Ina, but seriously, how much is the award worth when Bobby Flay wins one….

oh and to Aunt Sandy, better (hic) luck (hic) next year….

Makeup nomination. Sums up the daytime emmys right there.

  11. Trudy says:

Is it possible that our Alton Brown isn’t nominated ever because his show airs in primetime? Not that he seems to really care about crap like this.

  12. Byrdie says:

You know that Flay will have an even larger ego than he had before and FN will give him yet another redundant show. Might as well change FN to the Bobby Flay Network. What a crock.

  13. Raymond says:

When was Rachael Ray ever relavent in the culinary world? I can’t wait till I never ever have to see her on my TV again on any channel. Bobby Flay is welcome to vacate my TV at anytime as well. He sucks

  14. Silvio says:

Bobby Flay, best culinary program ? Someone is blowing someone for this honor to be awarded.

Maybe Bobby’s wealthy business partner Lawrence ( Call me Lurch) Kretchmar is giving out now ?

  15. Sarah says:

I wouldn’t doubt it one bit if Bobby Flay owns part of FN one day . It seems like every other show is produced by Rock Shrimp which I think GynoMastia Boy owns part of.

  16. Byrdie says:

@Sarah – that may explain why Flay liked Mommy Dearest over Jeffery. A little too much competition for him.

  17. Deanna says:

There’s a show called “Peter Perfect?!?”

  18. Ericka says:

I can’t agree more with the Bobby commentary. But Rachael Ray — I have to say I disagree with the feedback! Even though she’s sold out on media, I still think she’s one of the only good ones left on FN.

  19. Megan says:

Whoa, since when is This Old House a culinary program?!? Did I miss something?

Best Achievement in Hairstyling? This is seriously a category? I know now why I’ve never bothered with the daytime Emmys.

  20. Princess Crazypants says:

I’ve been calling it the FlayRay Network for years now, lol.

Sandra Lee for makeup and hair? Huh?

  21. Princess Crazypants says:

How many awards does Ina have?

  22. Ferd says:

Deanna, “Peter Perfect” features a flamboyant male hairdresser who spruces up a business where the decor of the shop and the owner’s wardrobe are blah. I’m sorry to say I even know that.

  23. Gina says:

Ming totally deserved to win. Incredible show. Maybe the gift bag made up for it (what was in this year’s gift bag, anyway?)

  24. Derek Lutz says:

At least Bobby didn’t win for Throwdown. Evidently the Emmy folks don’t see the cooking shows on PBS, where one can actually learn something. “Grill It” – wow, pork chops, steaks, chicken on a grill, and then Bobby with his oils and chipotle pepper rubs. Genius.

America’s Test Kitchen is one of the best cooking show going – credible, tested recipes with common sense hosts giving out recipes that look good, apparently taste good and seem fairly easy to replicate. And none of the hosts are reprehensible. I guess that dooms them.

  25. Glock says:

Sandra Lee forgot the show biz advice from Tropic Thunder: Never go full retard!

Bobby Flay: goofy, poor marital skills, but can throw down. Slow, but not retarded.

Ina Garten: low talking, hangs with gays, but manages to keep a rich husband. Dimwitted, yes; retarded, no.

Just like Sean Penn in “I am Sam”, Sandra Lee went all the way kwaanza-cake retarded and came home empty handed.

  26. Olive Loahf says:

Grilling is kind of fun, but a crashing bore by the time “dessert” gets grilled. It’s the same old tired “Guess what, you can grill peaches!!!”

And to have that “Hunky” albino lashed titty-boy swaggering around doing it is just torture. For this he gets an Emmy.
Gee all this hatred just cheered me up!

  27. Butterfly says:

    Hey Byrdie,
I thought it was already the Flay Network, he’s on/got his hands in almost everything anyway…
I just can’t believe that these were the “chefs” that were nominated for anything. Stupid, ignoramus hacks on TV would have been the best category for any of them, and they all should have gotten an award.

  28. Byrdie says:

@Butterfly – Yeah, you’re right. I was in denial. It IS the Flay Network. I was just hoping it was a bad dream…

  29. Butterfly says:

@Byrdie-So was I, oh how very hopeful I was… Reality has hit me like Aunt Sandy after a night of partying with RR.

  30. Jimbo says:

Hmm! Gourmet’s Diary of a Foodie loses to Bobby Flay because it doesn’t show Bobby Flay but people who look for the quality of food, the taste and the care and preparation of each dish rich in diversity and flavors? Yeah, that makes sense.

And Ming Tsai loses to Bobby Flay because he no longer works at Food Network and that the reason he no longer works at Food Network is that not only he doesn’t look like Bobby Flay, but he is not Bobby Flay. Yeah that makes sense too.

I guess the day Bobby Flay goes to PBS is the day the programming director prefers to replace Inspector Lewis with Inspector Marc Summers. Oh Well! At least we have the Travel Channel with Bourdain and Zimmern.

  31. Hater's should not hate.. says:

TO JER: Guy Fieri is a great host and has a wonderful personality. He is down to earth and fun. You obviously must have ZERO personality to try and bash Guy (and probably single because who can deal with your mentality).

TO LAURA: The Neely’s are a fun couple who keep the show going with their cute little comments and playful ways and they make good, down home cooking. They are NOT mentally challenged. You on the other hand must be mentally challenged to make such dumb comments. So what Paula Deen has her family on the show? It’s nice to see her family together. Miserable much?

TO GLOCK: Please do not throw around the word “retard” around. Some people do have handicapped family/friends in their lives and will be insulted.

SUCH HATEFUL COMMENTS FROM JEALOUS, MISERABLE, LONELY PEOPLE..
