Is Top Chef’s Michael Voltaggio (Gasp) A Douchebag?

Comment
The cream has finally risen to the crop on this boring, predictable season of Top Chef: Las Vegas.
Jen (the walking Zoloft ad), Kevin (Santa’s favorite Irish elf), and the seriously boring Voltaggio brothers all made it to the final 4, as everyone on the entire planet knew they would the day the show premiered (which feels like 3 years ago, doesn’t it?)
No one’s surprised Mike Voltaggio made it this far, but the guy’s getting cockier every week and his massive ego is spiraling out of control. Last night, he stared into the camera with his creepy, dead robot eyes and said something like, “Kevin makes good food but it’s nothing outstanding. I cook the food Kevin cooks on my day off.”
Whatever, Mike. We all know what you’re doing on your day off… getting another spray tan.
So let’s hear it: is Mike a total d-bag, or a talented chef who’s earned the right to be confident?

He does have a michelin star to his name, So he is good. Yea the cockiness does suck. I just think now we need to collect money for Eli now that he is gone for a comb
He’s moved into to being beyond a D-bag and now is just a plain A-Bag.
Meh, I gave up on Top Chef and stopped watching it after episode one, as you stated, a blind man could see these two brothers Douche would make it to the finals.
The Glad bag commercials, the stereotyped contestants, the god awful amount of ink on their arms, faces and probably nether regions have just made a once good show into a cartoon where everyone from Tom to Padma to these lousy stereotypes they call contestants are just are dialing it in.
I’ve thought all along that both the brothers were pretty cocky, and the way they treat each other sometimes is pretty appalling. When one wins and the other doesn’t you can see the jealousy on their faces. Shouldn’t they be proud and supportive of each other?
I picked Kevin to win some weeks ago, he is consistently in the top. The show is OK, certainly better than NFNS, but didn’t live up to the hype I had heard about it. I daresay Next Iron Chef is much better, there is much more pressure to win other than bragging rights and some money provided by Glad.
Next Iron Chef.
Agreed. It was surprisingly better IMO. Much better. I wonder if Alton is taking over some of the creative because this season was done very well….
I agree. I was not a fan of Next Iron Chef until this season with Alton Brown. I seriously hated the exaggerated kung fu style bad acting antics of the host and Chairman Mark Dacascos.
The 3 off us watching from my house last night agreed that he is a dick.
I agree that michael is a total d-bag. But, I kinda like the brother – even he has said on camera that he thinks his brother is a tool! I do hope that Kevin wins.
Mike Volt is definitely a twat. His brother looks like a prince in comparison. It’s one thing to be confident but it’s quite another to be arrogant, disrespectful and snotty. While I was no fan of Robin, I thought the treatment of her by the other contestants was appalling with Mike V leading the charge. Is there no one left on earth in a kitchen who is gracious and professional? Mike V’s lifelong resentments are piling up and embarrassing him on national TV.
I’ve always maintained that TC is way too much about the drama and not the food. While I’m sure it’s a ratings grabber, it sure gives folks the wrong idea about real chefs. Top Son of a Bitch. I’m rooting for Mr Lucky Charms though his beard makes me want to VOM.
I guess I’m missing the part where The Next Iron Chef is better. Chef Mehta is a nasty, talentless douchebag and his main focus is overly sweet concoctions of slop. His latest challenge was a complete mess with all those retarded flowers clogging up the dishes. Once they dumped Freitag, I was done. It’s obvious the fix is in and it has been since the get to. I just can’t tolerate the lack of integrity by TFN.
I have to disagree with some of the other comments. I am really enjoying this season of Top Chef. It’s nice to see REAL chefs on TV (Robouchon, Keller, etc). And the contestants this season are the best cooks of all the seasons of Top Chef. I can’t believe anyone would say that Next Iron Chef is better…
There’s no doubt that Mike V is a talented chef, but he IS a total douche and needs to take a lesson from his much more grounded, humble brother. Maybe he’ll shut up now that Kevin has beat him yet AGAIN in another challenge…. but probably not.
I like the other brother Brian. Michael’s awful! Love Jillian’s description of Jen as Zoloft zombie.
I agree with CUPCAKE about the caliber of real chefs who judge though.
Kevin’s going to win! He’s modest and he can cook.
This is kind of off topic, but does anyone else think that Kevin looks like Yukon Cornelius from the old animated Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer? ‘Cause I can definitely see a resemblance there…
As a qualified mathematician and statistician, I conducted a scientifically rigorous test, and determined (by the now renowned and universally accepted scale, the Guy Fieri Doucheometer) that MV is 72.825% douchey.
:-D
As for TC in general, yeah. The commercialism has become extreme. But it funds the show, and these young chefs are getting tens of thousands of dollars in prizes. I can’t help but think that’s a good thing.
It’s also true that because of this show, many people are learning about important chefs, Keller, for example, who they’ve never heard of before. It raises awareness about a whole field of study that used to stay only within a select circle of professionals.
Anyone ever heard of Leibniz? Euler? Sir Ronald Aylmer Fisher? Lol. All famous mathematicians. It’s just that “Top Math Geek” wouldn’t be a very sexy show on Bravo, nor would it generate revenue.
In spite of all of TC’s commercialism and hyper-extended editing-for-drama, I like the show and will continue to watch.
Crap! There should have been a spoiler alert message here, top chef is two weeks behind here in Canada, now I know who is going to be in the final four >:(
Oh Zach. Come on. Like you didn’t already know who’d make it to the final 4.
Talented douchebag.
Talented douchebag. Unfortunately for his talent, the douchebaggery seems to be overpowering it. He’s so sure he’s unbeatable that he’s slipping as a result.
Team Kevin!
@Designer Jeans:
what does “Meh” mean? I’ve seen it in a few posts and can’t figure it out.
“Meh” is sort of like “oh well” or some other sigh of indifference.
He is a d-bag. His brother seems more down to earth.
Hey Everybody! I knew the V-brothers and Kevin would be in the final four, and I thought it was a toss-up between Jen, Mike I., and Eli. I’m on team Kevin, because that Mike V. is a total booger. No matter how many awards you have, you’re a total loser if you’re nasty to other people. Bless Robin’s heart, Lord knows she had to go, but I don’t know why they were tripping about her being there so long – there’s almost always someone there towards the end that makes you go “huh???” But, just for fun, I hope Mike V gets her as his sous chef during the finale – you know they always bring back the last 4 chefs eliminated to help – and she (oops!) over-salts everything (smiles).
Douche, total douche. He is the douchiest douchebag since Guy FERRY. He’s a sous-vide douchebag. He’s an amuse douche. He’s Massengill. He’s Not So Fresh.
Does that answer your question?
Whoooooooo! haaaaaaa!ROTFLMFAO! THAT DOUCHE JUST WON!! DAMN!
There is a rumor out that a chef who has won many challenges gets eliminated on the F4 show. Based on my somewhat faulty memory, we know that Jen hasn’t won much since the beginning, Brian hasn’t won a bunch so it has to be either Kevin or Mike V, right?
My vote (if I had one) would be for Mike to go as he is incredibly unlikeable but fear it will be Kevin.
Mike is being kind of an a-hat. I can’t help but feel like it’s partly because he’s being a bit bratty while competing with his brother, who’s has such awesome technical ability and creativity. Some people feel the need to be more of a cock when they’re competing. I also am not sure how much of it they’re editing to make him look like a total douche, but the only other contestant who’s seemed especially bothered by it is Bryan, which is kind of expected.
Don’t forget they can only edit what’s available. The ‘revoltin’ brother Mike is giving them lots of material.
LOL @ Amuse Douche…
It’s finished, now. And he won. Does he know what a smile is ?
lol@ sous vide douche.
I’d add Croque en douche !
Little Volt is no longer a douchebag, he is a douche nozzle….
Mike V. is a total douche; so was Eli. Mike Isabella may have been king douche. Bryan’s douchebaggery is significantly less than his brother’s, shown last night when he helped Kevin plot out how to sous-vide his lamb when prepping for the elimination challenge.
In the finale of Top Chef Masters, those guys talked about respecting each other and the food, helping each other out, instead of taking the cutthroat approach that we see in Next Iron Chef and in Top Chef. I guess there’s a reason those chefs are considered “masters” and these guys, well, aren’t.
Why yes he is a douche, his brother not so much…actually I find the majority on top chef to be an arrogant bunch.
Leash, you’re hilarious – sous vide douche? amuse douche? MASSENGILL??? – OMG – I think I’m gonna start using those myself – I work with a bunch of them……….
Why can’t he be both?
It’s funny, this was the exact thought I had when I woke up this morning. I’m surprised that it annoyed me enough to continue thinking about it today.
The dude is, what, 30 years old…at what point do you grow up enough not to talk sh!t about people? “Oh look, everybody, mine’s bigger! I’m better!” Idiot.
Yeah, while this season has been a bit predictable, I am happy to see that proper execution wins over flash and mirrors. Kevin makes food that is immaculately prepared and it tastes good. Ingenuity is secondary to the fundamentals of preparing food correctly. Plus, I will always root for the guy who is humble, complimentary of his fellow cooks, and at 26, shows an infinitely higher level of maturity.
Suck it, Mikey. You’re a Grade A Douche with a classic case of Little Brother Syndrome.
“I guess I’m missing the part where The Next Iron Chef is better. I just can’t tolerate the lack of integrity by TFN”
I totally, totally agree.
Mike is an arrogant d-bag.
Rock on Kevin!
Oh, and I would eat Kevin’s food any day of the week over Mikeys -
thanks for the article jillian, i hate michael so much! his just jealous because he always comes second two kevin. and that spray tan and those dumb knuckle tattoos just make me hate him more.
I think he’s both a talented chef and a douche, but the two seem to go hand in hand. I thought it was common foodie knowledge that chefs are some of the cockiest people around.
never piss a chef off. he has control of what goes in or on your food LOL
I agree. I was irritated at how he bashed Kevin… but when he said that in 90 minutes he probably could have made what Gavin made for the Bocuse D’or and probably have made it better – “IF he knew what the challenge was”.
Um. Gavin practiced it for 4 fucking months, and he’s a high quality chef to go and compete. You have to be a serious prick to even THINK you could recreate his dish AND be better at it in 90 minutes. I’m SO glad Kevin gets to go compete instead of this prick… hope it rubbed some salt in the wounds. Who cares how technical your dishes are if they don’t taste good? Ass.
Wearing his baseball cap backwards, his over-inflated ego and total lack of humility = DDD-bag. Hope he’s kicked off next week.
All of these shows (TC, Next Iron Chef, etc.) have become formulaic and when they become so predictable, the shows become boring, boring, boring.
Talking about boring, does anyone besides me think that Padma is boring? As compared to Katie Lee, Padma is an improvement; however, couldn’t the producers find a host who is knowledgeable, attractive AND has a personality…. maybe Tom or Toby could spike her drink with some ritalin.
As for Iron Chef… I was hoping Freitag would have won. Stopped watching when she was eliminated.
I don’t have love for Fritag due to her antics on Chopped. Maybe she’s awesome but I have been holding a little grudge (not as big as the one for Alex G, though).
Mike V. is a douche. I have noticed that through all of the season of TC the chefs are so OTT arrogant. Is that a chef thing or what? Do they teach that in culinary school?
The tattoos — I’m not a fan of them in general but they look so scampy in the kitchen with all those tats.
A spolier alert is a good idea, since people DVR shows these days. I hadn’t actually watched last night’s show yet, though I’m not surprised at the outcome. I’m not mad or anything, just a suggestion.
I personally feel Next Iron Chef has been a better show because the chefs on that program are older and more experienced. Yes they are still somewhat cutthroat at times, and Mehta is a jerk, but there have also been many situations where they helped each other and shared. They aren’t quite as dramatic, whiny and disrespectful as the younger chefs on Top Chef can be.
When you give people a big prize to fight over they will naturally become agressive and selfish. Top Chef Masters on the other hand was all about winning for charity, so naturally they were more graceful to one another.
I love Kevin. He’s been my favorite since the season started.
I am loving every comment that has been made. Kevin is Yukon Cornelius, The Michaels and Eli are 2nd day period used tampons, and Chef Mehta is an annoying prick. I liked his work in helping Sally Field get out of Iran in Not Without My Daughter though.
Regarding the Next Iron Chef and Chef Frietag – she bugs me because whenever she has to sample other chefs food, she looks at them like they’re douchebags before she even tries it – what’s with her eyebrows! Alex G. too, but Frietag is worse. I’m not a big fan of the Iron Chef competition, but I’ll usually watch the last 5 minutes to see who gets eliminated, and that Mehta is wierd looking too – I hope it’s Garzas.
I don’t really get the ridiculous “hero’s edit” Kevin seems to be getting from the folks at Bravo, at least in comparison to Bryan V.
Bryan V.’s food is out-of-this-world-crazy-good. He’s unimaginably talented, and the idea that he’s somehow a Marcel-esque all-technique/no soul hack putting out inedible but clever garbage is just mind-boggling to me. I’ve been to VOLT, and it’s every bit as good as the very best restaurants in DC (CityZen, Inn at Little Washington, Komi, what used to be Maestro, etc.), and on par with some of the best restaurants in the country.
Let me put it this way: the centerpiece of VOLT’s 21-course tasting menu is a perfectly cooked steak over delicious mashed potatoes with a red wine sauce. That’s it. Simple, crowd-pleasing, soulful, delicious. And if you look at the food Bryan has cooked throughout Top Chef, it’s all that way. Nothing weird for the sake of being weird, just amazingly good food prepared perfectly.
Basically, if you took Kevin and had him work for 10 years perfecting his craft, you would get something like Bryan. The idea that Kevin could be Top Chef *over* Bryan borders on the absurd.
I’ve only watched the last few seasons of Top Chef, but this one (to me) seems to be the least drama ridden. Then again, I really kind of tune out the non-competition elements of the show and kind of ignore it. One thing I thought was good was when Kevin asked Brian about sous vide technique and Brian helped him. It defintely made me gain a lot more respect for Brian as a chef and person. Reminded me a lot of the attitude surrounding Top Chef Masters. I think these top four chefs have a lot of mutual respect for each other. Well, at least Jen, Kevin, and Brian do. Not sure about Mike V.
Andrew – have you ever visited Kevin’s restaurant in Atlanta?
His brother Bryan is the better cook, IMO. And also seemingly a better person; I liked what he said last night about how part of being a chef is sharing information, even in a competition. I appreciate people who want to win on their talent, and not how douchey they can be toward other people.
Cocky, Arrogant, selfish, self-serving, and did I mention Cocky??
I like him, honestly I did, but I cannot STAND him. If his cooking and wins were more consistent, I would say he has the talent to back up the arrogance. but he doesn’t. so now he needs to shut up.
Here’s to Kevin winning the whole shebang. I’d be happy if Jen or Bryan won, too. We’ve already had a Marcel and a Stefan season.
And I agree on Next Iron Chef that Mehta is showing signs of douchebaggery, and that it’s been obvious from the get-go that they are looking to diversify, (though I love Garces).
King Douche was Nate Appleman, though.
I actually love this season… Yes it’s been predictable, but it’s more fun to watch legitimately talented chefs than trainwrecks like Robin. Finally there are four deserving people in the top, unlike two (?) seasons ago with Lisa, and last season… I don’t even REMEMBER who was in the top. Michael is a douchebag, but it doesn’t really bug me because most of the time it was towards Robin :D. And I think that Next Iron Chef is painfully boring, I’ve fallen asleep to most of the episodes, and don’t care at all about who wins– that’s no fun.
But I’m hoping that Kevin wins, or Bryan.
Brian is a mini-douche too. You wonder what he’s looking at when he stares down at the floor constantly. He doesn’t emote much either.
Yeah, but wouldn’t you have loved to have seen Mike’s face when Kevin was pronounced the winner? “Stuff I cook on my day off”, indeed!!!!!
Whew, apparently I am in the teeny minority that thinks he totally rocks. I have actually been waiting for him to shake the dust off and say what he really thinks since the beginning. I love the show and find Iron Chef to be hysterically, and unintentionally, funny. Mike Isabella, now there was a classic douche. IMHO.
If you’re gonna be that cocky, you better freaking win. Kevin’s the only man on the show with a sensible degree of humility. I so hope he wins. I think his IQ is significantly higher than that of the rest of them, too. Go Kevin.
Mike is a throbbing weener and a greasy disgusting hole. He should run for office.
Robin kept avoiding elimination because there was always someone even worse than her and not just with food…seems to me the judges ARE looking at attitude and integrity as well as cooking ability.
Eli- chubby immature, annoying jackass and future senator
Brian-passive-aggressive douchebag
Mike I-douche squared
Mike V-douche to the 10th power
Jen-started off as a douche-nozzle, then slipped into one of her multiple personalities, Frieda, a pessimistic 3 year old who needs to be on suicide watch.
Note this was right before her fuck buddy was tossed off the show.
Kevin looks like he resides in a cabin and splits logs for a living but I adore him and hope he wins, even if Mike knows he cooked the same thing Kevin cooked when he was in school.
Goofus and Gallant
Another blogger I have read has given the brothers the perfect nicknames, from those cartoons about two brothers from the Highlights For Children magazine. Gallant is polite and helpful, while
Goofus is rude, messy and selfish.
Kevin FTW!!!!!!
I just hope Kevin wins..I can’t stand the brothers grim or the half wit Jen..
I thought the fix was in for Freitag, because IC needs another female chef (at least that doesn’t lose all the time), and she was highlighted more often in the commercials than the other competitors. So when she was cut, I was shocked. I hope Garces wins, because he is more reminiscent of Batali in style and kitchen character. Mehta is a snide prick. Yes, Flay the Gringo already does southwestern/Mexican, but Garces will bring the real Latin cuisine. If FN’s aim is diversity, they’ll get it either way.
I think we’re missing the point a bit here. Mike V is acting like this because he’s insecure, and he’s especially so around his brother. You can tell that there’s nothing in this world he’d like better than to stick it to Bryan. He has classic “little brother syndrome”.
HOWEVER…a douche by any other name is still a douche ;)
Ann, so much word on this. Yes, Mike V is both an arrogant a- hole and a d- bag, but it stems from insecurity. He may have talent, but it his sour grapes attitude just makes me angry, it’s just so immature.
Loved to see how both Bryan and Jen stepped up to show they were talented as well as classy.
Have been aboard the Kevin Love Train for a while, but am now nervous upon reading that little rumor. If it can’t be Kevin, guess I would be OK with Jen or Bryan, but NOT Mikey V.
How many chef-testants on Top Chef have Michelin star? The French really have to go out of their way to give away one of their stars. Yes, Michael is cocky, but its impossible to deny his talent. His creations are highly-conceptual. He re-invents food and challenges how they are usually prepared and enjoyed. He’s candid and at least he’s not conniving or a liar.
Yes, Kevin is very humble. He’s mature and there’s a comfort in his demeanor that comes through in his thoughtful foods anchored in his Southern heritage. But he’s not a conceptual chef. He was criticized for being too simple though he ultimately won. I admire his approach and that he comes from a competitive BBQ background.
I completely disagree with “Daria” above. Top Chef is exponentially more entertaining and engaging than the Next Iron Chef. They judges on NIC are boring and they bicker, unprofessionally, with each other. I am not crazy about Gael Greene, Toby or Padma but Colicchio is the most dignified judge on reality TV, full stop. He’s an authority and he carries himself very well. He’s personable and accurate. Furthermore, TC has more prestige. Everyone watches TC, even non-foodies. I think it’s THE definitive show that’s had the most influence on our growing foodie culture. TC judges don’t make asses of themselves like AG on Chopped. I am not a fan of Mehta. I don’t know how he is taken seriously. He doesn’t exhibit clarity of thought. Things get thrown together and sometimes they taste good. Iron Chef seems rigged — just like TNFNS. (And Garces does not equal Flay. Garces is Latin cuisine. Flay is Southwestern. Very very big difference)
At least this season of TC was based on meritocracy. The Final 4 are the very best chefs this time. Last season, I was so disappointed goofy Hosea won. His recipes are neither creative nor interesting. What has he created that made you salivate or curious? (Stefan was clearly the superior chef though he was arrogant, but Stefan was not nasty towards others.) This season, so many chefs apprenticed under legends, got major awards, etc. TC keeps getting better. How TC will keep the momentum is a different story.
I liked Eli. He was highly skilled for his age.
***Finally, super kudos to Bryan for helping out Kevin. That was very noble – speaks volumes about his character. Very classy and gracious.***
My vote is for Bryan.
I went to Michael’s restaurant at the Langham and had the chef’s tasting menu—and it was amazing. He totally has the talent. He came out and spoke with all the tables and was very personable and funny. I think he does come across as a douche bag on the show…but, it IS reality TV and I’m sure Bravo makes some suggestions about what to say and edits things in a certain order.
Just because he acts like an a-hole doesn’t mean his food isn’t fabulous! And he has great customer service.
Sorry Guys i’m team MICHAEL V. ALL THE WAY!! or his brother.. i thought it was ridiculous that Kevin won with such a simple menu with a challenge of this magnitude.. so i thought to myself.. the rest of the food must have been pretty bad if they awarded kevin.. not that i don’t like Kevin but i truly believe the brothers are extremely talented.. but i FAVOR MICHAEL V. AND I HOPE HE DOESN’T GO HOME!!! If you notice the people that get the MOST screen time seem to be the winner.. michael and kevin have gotten the most i think..
I absolutely agree with you!! I LOVE MICHAEL.. i think Kevin and Mike have for SURE got the most screen time. But in the advertisement for the finale.. did you notice when Padma state “your the next top chef” she was looking straight ahead?? i rewinded 10 times.. and brian was on the left, mike in the MIDDLE and kevin on the right… she should have turned her neck to Kevin or Bryan to announce the winner.. so I’M HOPING ITS MIKE.. who stood right in front of her!! LOL
i really hope he doesnt win he may be the biggest doucher in the long history of a show filled with cocky douches.
I have not watched this show for more than 5 minutes to a time, as the entire competition thing is screwed, the acting is lousy and premise sucks. And personally, anyone who watches this schlock regularly, should be forced to sleep with Guy Ferry. Enough said.
Complete assh*le!!!
I’m amazed that Michael and Brian Voltaggio grew up in the same family. They are so different! Michael has some serious attitude problems. He’s 30 years old going on 15!!! If he can’t learn to take criticism and control his attitude his career will ultimately suffer.
I’m a big fan of the drama in Top Chef. They always have openly gay contestants who add flavor to the show – so to speak!
Michael V is this season’s talented bad guy. Every season has one. A bitch or a douchebag is a pre-requisite for the show’s success. Tiffani was a cunt in season 1, Marcel was a jerk in season 2, Hung was cocky in season 3, Lisa was bitchy in season 4, and of course Stefan was arrogant in season 5. They contrast to the flowery niceness of the other contestants. A classic soap opera setting.
I’ll keep watching and hoping Kevin wins. He’s the perfect combination of maturity, likability, talent, and humility. The Abe Lincoln of Top Chef.
D bag?, look at all of you who waste time blogging about a reality tv show. at least this guy has the courage to put himself out there and compete. you guys all blog under assumed names thinking that people give a @#$% about your opinion. All of you that say he is mean and should be nice to people, what about what you are saying about him? If hipocrite and d-bag were related as much as you think chefs and d-bags are related you would all be in the feminine product isle at the store. Get a life people, you know these tv reality characters for what you see on a 60 minute show and now you are experts. The winner is determined by judges who are food experts and this is a cooking competition not a personality contest. Leave the guy alone and let the final four do what they came to do and thats cook. Who comes up with a blog about douche anyway? You should look at yourself and what you use your life for. You will be remembered as somebody that writes about a feminine hygene product, you are right you are way more dignified than a guy who puts his passion fro his craft out there for the world.
Right On!! LOVE MICHAEL.. and i hate to clue you all.. but MOST CHEFS have a strong opinion about themselves.. that’s a known fact in the industry.. michael has “made it”.. and he’s telling his honest opinion of the challenges.. we weren’t there.. we DIDN’T TASTE THE FOOD or see how it was prepared.. i don’t blame him.. a couple of wins kevin achieved seemed “given to him”.. although i like kevin very much.. but the brothers are a great talent.. i prefer Michael.. and he has had the most screen time with kevin.. so ONE OF THEM IS GOING TO WIN! TEAM MICHAEL.. YEAHHHHH
So let me get this straight those of us that hate this d-bag and express our opinions must think that people care about our opinions? First of all – WRONG. Second of all jerk that fact that you think we would care demonstrates that you must care what people think. What you are doing is called mirroring. And since no one cares as you imply, no one must care about your opinion. Go back to your Game Boy, pop your zits, chow down on another greay sandwich and pretend that you are really insightful.
>>>you guys all blog under assumed names thinking that people give a @#$% about your opinion.
That’s about what we’d give for yours.
Cook 1,
Oh Hi Mike Voltaggio. Is that you in there? Sure sounds like you.
No one is talking about the food you create. Just how fake you are with your spray on tan, immature you act in the kitchen, what a sore loser you are, and your continuing douche baggery comments aimed at colleagues. You are shining example of what kids should not learn to act like. Why not try cooking both great food and showing class. It is possible, you know. Kevin does it every week.
no not Michael, but I did work for him a couple of years ago and he helped me get started. Thanks chef!
He’s a passionate great guy.. isn’t he? love him to pieces.. do you know if he wins?? LOL :)
@cook_1 This is a humor site that makes fun of celebrity chefs and Food Network shows / talent. Lighten up.. It’s all in fun!
Michael’s attitude is terrible. I hope Kevin beats him BIG TIME!
Have any of you met Michael? Have you guys heard of editing? Yes, he’s a bit cocky, but he’s a nice guy, so cut him some slack. If you ever have an opportunity to meet him, you will definitely change your mind.
I totally agree. You need to give the person the benefit of the doubt. At least he was true to himself and did not hold anything back like a major whimp. That is so cool that you have either met him or know him.
I can’t bare to watch Mike V. especially when he is talking about how great he is. He has a classic narcissistic personality disorder. Would never go to any restaurant owned by him or buy any product he promotes. Hope Kevin or Jennifer wins.
I was so appaled when he said that about Kevin, I really hope he doesn’t win. I was sorry to Jennifer go
wah wah. what a disappointing end. the guy arranged mushrooms in the shape of a mushroom. he didn’t even like food as a kid, for crying out loud! they clearly fell for his gimmicks. i’m from atl so i’m biased, but i was rooting for kevin. out of the final four, he was the only one with any evidence of a soul.
did anyone else notice how jennifer’s hair deteriorated as her performance declined? every time the camera was on her she got a little more disheveled. maybe the producers did it on purpose, seeing as there was no other way to gauge her emotions.
boring ??,
mm u R WRITING ON A FOOD NETWORK BLOG AND U FIND TOP CHEF BORING they are a joy to watch and make me thankful some of us are proud of what we do no matter what are vocational choices are. i have eaten both their food and bryan probably served the best steak i have ever eaten
Yes Michael is a little cocky- but I think I got past that through his talent. He seems genuine at least- he is who he is. I must admit- his cockiness was used to his advantage when he jumped down Robin’s throat. I never laughed so hard on Top Chef the way he belittled her. Loved it when he kept telling her to relax, which felt like a thousand times before she finally shut the hell up. She was on my nerves from day one, and that was the best Top Chef so far just to see him harass her. Go Michael!!! I would eat anything he would make for me. I liked Bryan too- would of loved to see him win.
He *is* cocky and his brother *does* seem like a nicer guy, but I absolutely love him! I was really surprised to see the voting–something like only 11% of people wanted him to win.
Kevin drove me nuts. I loved that Bryan told him that one night not to pass judgment on dishes he hadn’t tried.
The fact that this scumbag won only means he is a very good chef. As far as being a human being goes this dickhead ranks at the bottom of the food chain. He is about as interesting as watching water freeze (brother Bryan is not to far behind but at least he has a little personality). Did anyone see this asshole smile during the entire season? I am sorry that Bravo didn’t see fit to reward someone that is part of the human race rather than this dispicable nerd. Hey “Micky” if I ever see you in the kitchen of a restaurant where I eat I am going to kick your ass you little putrid m_f’er. I am interested in how this pond scum was raised, he has no respect for anyone, including his brother, he has no personality, he has little professionalism and he is the epitome of an arrogant bastard. Way to go Mom and Dad. “Micky”, I hope you read this asshole so you know how much people hate you. You may have won Top Chef but I truly hope that people find out where you cook and choose to eat elsewhere.
Geez WTF did the guy do to you? I think everyone is taking all this stuff way too personal. It’s freaking Top Chef, a tv show. If u don’t like it, then change the stupid channel. The things he said are being blown out proportion and I think it’s ridiculous and pathetic all these hate comments against him. Get over it people, he won! And guess what? He doesn’t give a rats a$$ about anything that you all people have to say! On to season 7 so you all can find someone else to pick on.
Coincidence, most of us don’t give a rat’s rear end about what you have to say, either. Chill, Diana, we’re just expressing opinions.
What makes u think I’m not chilled?? See up there? It says HE doesn’t care about what people have to say not me and whether u or anyone else cares about what I think…well I sure don’t care about that. Like u said we’re just expressing our opinions right? Good so move along! :)
Worst outcome on a reality show ever!!
Very boring episode. Bravo “STUNK” TV up with this one. Talk about anti-climatic and ‘just wrong’. I was so disappointed with the way the episode was produced and then the outcome, I won’t watch any future seasons. Bravo layed a rotten egg with this one!
Bravo should rename the show – Top Douchebag.
Michael Voltaggio wins by a landslide!
You’d think there would be some standard for any profession of being a borderline decent person. Who would even want to work with the likes of Michael the d-bag? I’ll just take solace in the fact that, when Michael’s heading to the grave one day, he’ll realize he’s contributed nothing at all to the world except to spread his garbage everywhere.
I went to high school with this fool. Total tool then, doesn’t seem like anything has changed. Im happy for him though, but doesn’t change the fact this dude was an asshole in high school. lol
I think everyone needs to lay off and leave Mike alone. The guy has great talent and he deserved to win. He seemed to get along great w everyone in the house and that says a lot about bc they all spent so much time together. Not that we should be judging anyone, but in all seriousness you can’t assume you know someone from watching them on a show once a week. I agree that the comment he made about Kevin’s food was very arrogant but in the moment we all say things we regret later. Congratulations Michael! :)
“DIANA”……
Relax
Relax!
Relax!!
Reeeeeeeeelax!!!
This is a humor site. Take it all with a grain of salt.
LOL
Hehe :) I’m wayyyy relaxed but c’mon u can’t deny that a few of these comments sound a little crazy!
Why shouldn’t we be judging anyone, Diane? Isn’t that the point of competition shows?
Well FERD! The show is a cooking competition so why does everyone go off on a tangent complaining about what a jerk he is…judge the food, it’s not a personality contest!
And it’s diana :) k?
What in the world were they thinking by having the contestants draw knives for sous chefs???? It was horrible! They should have simply been able to dram them with numbers on them, giving them the first, second, and third pick. Who in the world would ever pick Preeti? That was soooooo horribly unfair that I nearly turned it off. THEN, to add insult to injury, in the name of always-making-reality-tv-painful-to-watch, they invited the mothers in to hear their kids get critqued. Shameful. Just shameful. Kevin, I will come to your restaurant!
I meant “draw” them with numbers on….oops!
He comes off as harsh on TV (I chalk it up to being a bit too competitive, but hey, it’s a competition, and he won), but we stepped into the kitchen of his restaurant a couple of weeks before he won and he was an incredibly nice guy. He talked to us for quite a long time and was just generally really cool.
