  1. Sarah says:

    This guy is a tool.

  2. Muffins says:

    This guy is the shit.

  3. Goober says:

The only person on FN fitter than AB. He must eat 10 sardine sandwiches daily.

  4. Betty Crocker says:

Am I the only one who thinks that B&W photo of him with long hair (and yes, even with the chest hair) is hot?

  5. byrdie says:

    Sharpie Marker valu-pak! Love it!!

  6. Lana says:

    Unnecessary Quotation “Marks”

    *giggles*
Get it? His name is “Mark”
    heehee

  7. Boobilicious says:

    Wow, his chest was HAIRY!

  8. Halidai says:

    Egyption? Cheekbokes?

I think there’s something wrong with your speelchucker.

  9. Slowmodem says:

I think The Chairman is great. I wish they’d let him do more on the show. These secret ingredients had me laughing! Allez cuisine!

    • Katie says:

      Okay, here’s my persistent question:

This show is deeply entrenched in its Japanese roots, yes? Then WHY is its catch-phrase French???

      • Slowmodem says:

It goes back to around 1900 when Japan decided to open trade with other countries. The “in” thing to do was to be/act western. It still persists today, although not as much.

    • Trini says:

Not to nit-pick, but it’s “a la cuisine” with a grave accent on the “a”.

      • ADITL1979 says:

No, it’s “allez cuisine”…has been since the original series….it means, more or less, “Go cook,” although it is not completely grammatically accurate.

      • Flyingroo says:

Well, I’m afraid I have to nit pick :-)
The expression you are referring to “à la cuisine” means “from the kitchen” and it’s not the one that Iron Chef show is using. They use “allez cuisine” with a meaning of “let’s go into the kitchen” or better “let’s go cook”.

      • Flyingroo says:

        Hehehe ADITL, 2 minutes earlier!

      • Trini says:

I guess we’re going to have to agree to disagree on this one. BTW, “à la cuisine” does not mean “from the kitchen”, it means “to the kitchen”. “From the kitchen” would be “de la cuisine”.

      • Barb says:

Well, if he’s saying a la cuisine, I’m afraid he’s mispronouncing it terribly.

    • foodness says:

TRINI — here’s the scoop from wiki & their site — I’m guessing they know what they are talking about — it’s their tagline — smash the nits.

The start of the battle is typically announced by the Chairman in the following tagline:

So now America, with an open heart and an empty stomach, I say unto you in the words of my uncle: Allez cuisine! [3][4]
“There’s the Chairman’s familiar “Allez Cuisine!” the French phrase that calls the Iron Chefs to culinary battle.”
      —Alton Brown (Flay v. Tsai)
Allez cuisine! (loosely translated as “Get to the kitchen!” or “Start cooking!”) is the phrase that started battles in the original Japanese series (hence the reference to his uncle, Chairman Kaga).

  10. Diane says:

This fella has always kind of creeped me out. He is kinda handsome though…

  11. Oveta says:

FTR, he is the nephew of the Chairman. at least, that is how he started out being call on ICA.

  12. jojo says:

… and the original Chairman is an actor too (and a helluva dresser).

    • Sara says:

I always thought he dressed like a Vegas showgirl who lacked taste. And he gave me the giggles. I particularly recall the shirt that looked like it was taken directly off a particularly unlucky Holstein cow. To see a distinctly Japanese (with long hair!) dressed up like a cowboy was just too much.

This particular Chairman started out much less dramatic, but is creeping–nay, galloping–towards the melodramatic as well. He frequently makes me laugh out loud, not the intended reaction, I’m sure. If he ever starts dressing in showgirl hand-me-downs, I may have to leave the room.

  13. Michelline says:

wow. who knew the guy was ripped? rawr.

  14. FNFAN says:

    NOT hilarious…HOT!

  15. gads, when will Real, Male, Manly Men come back into vogue in the western world ? I feel sorry for the females growing up in this world today .The complete lack of manliness in the male of the species on display today (in the entertainment field) is frightening. Most of them are prettier than any of the females “out there” displaying everything they’re the owner of !!! Just an observation after reading a few of the funny comments.

    • TheOtherErin says:

Oh, I dunno. That pic of him running on the beach and the one where he’s furry look pretty “manly” to me. ROWR!!

Also? My guy takes care of himself out of respect to me. I wouldn’t say he’s “pretty” by any stretch of the imagination, but he is in shape, well-groomed and would probably think the same of the chairman in most of these pics.

    • bivouac says:

I know this comment is wicked old, but I have to reply- there’s science behind the more effeminate men of today. It’s theorized that the introduction of “the pill” changed the way women started looking at men. Before the pill, the hormones of a woman looking for a mate would dictate searching out for a burly, strong man to make for strong babies. After the pill, which feeds the body hormones that mimic pregnancy, the necessity to make strong babies is out of the way (the hormone for that being satisfied by the pill) so women are seeking out more sensitive males who are more likely to stay with the women and raise the (nonexistent) babies. That may sound sexist, but we’re not talking personalities, we’re talking hormones. Manly men aren’t coming back, because women don’t need them anymore.

  16. Drew says:

    GIVE THAT MAN A LAXATIVE

  17. Thespian says:

you know, it’s a shame I can’t find a pic of him as Sensei Ping in the mexican wrestling mask from the 3rd ep of The Middle Man.

That would totally fit this gallery.

  18. AshC says:

Seriously, couldn’t they’ve tried just a little harder on those Iron Chef video game characters?! They look ridiculous!!!

  19. Cookie says:

    He’s awfully cute!

  20. TicTac says:

Was that real hair on his chest??lol

  21. christellar says:

    CHAIRMAN = SEXY

  22. chuck lloyd says:

I meet mark years ago. his dad al is a 7th degree black belt grand master in kung foo and had a school in portland or. mark showed up to see his dad. and I got to spare with him. let me tell you he is fast and I mean super fast I was on the floor in in less than 5 sec. and took at lease 6 hits to my body on the way down. I wish they talk about mark a little on each show and show some pic. of him from back in the day. like how about the pic of mark and his dad on the front cover of kick boxer mag. I think that people need to know more about mark. I think it would be good for the show. heres somthing I bet you did not know marks dad was one of bruce lee’s best frends and I think that if you ask mark he might have story to tell. if not just sak me I sure that I can come up with a few good stories for you.. lol

    • Lexi says:

Wow Chuck, you are making me want to get to know Mark (The Chairman) more and more. I too thought that hairy picture was totally hot. I always thought he was sexy and always wanted to know more about him. Food Network Humor, please do more homework on Mark.

      • Lexi says:

And I LMAO when you described how he had you down in 5 seconds with 6 body blows on the way. Too funny (and intriguing).

  23. mrclark says:

Actually it was Rocky III where Rocky and Apollo ran on the beach….had to say it

  24. Cynthia says:

i really like the chairman i would like him even with long hair
