UPDATE: Food Network and HGTV Back On Cablevision
Posted on January 21st 2010 by Jillian Madison

Cablevision and Scripps Networks reached a deal today, restoring HGTV and Food Network to Cablevision’s 3 million customers in the tri-state area. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“This is great news for all those television viewers in the New York Tri-State region who enjoy Food Network and HGTV,” said John Lansing, executive vice president of Scripps Networks Interactive Inc. and president of the company’s Scripps Networks operating division. “This is the resolution everyone wanted. Cablevision has been a valued distribution partner and we’re gratified that together we were able to reach a successful conclusion that will benefit their customers and viewers of our networks.”

“We’d like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding as we worked with Scripps to reach an agreement that is fair,” said John Bickham, Cablevision’s President of Cable & Communications. “Food Network and HGTV have strong and loyal followings and we are pleased that both channels are back where they belong on Cablevision and available to our customers in both standard-definition and free HD.”

The best part? No more horrendous, disingenuous Bobby Flay commercials! Hallelujah!

  4. Julie says:

WHOOOOOOOO! Nearly a month without FN, it’s been absolute torture. I’m glad Scripps and Cablevision have finally worked out a deal. Let’s hope this never happens again!

  5. Dave says:

Scripps are greedy bastards. I hope cablevision didn’t cave. Anyway, glad it’s back on for you Cablevision folks.

Jill, are you staying with dish network or going back to cablevision?

  6. Erin says:

Thanks for this! Just tuned in and it was Rachael adding a “haaaaaandful” of cheese to her dry as dirt smashed potatoes and then added something or other to her “paaaaaan” of chicken. When did she adopt this style of speaking? Time was she would have added a “hayindful” of something to the “payin” being from upstate NY and all.

  9. trentsketch says:

This is a great first step. Now they just need to remove Bobby Flay from Boy Meets Grill, switch out the host of Throwdown to a rotating panel of chefs, cut back on Bobby Flay Iron Chef battles, and give his ass the boot that bounced against Gale Gand and Sara Moulton’s asses by the end of the year. Then we’ll be making progress.

  10. Cablevision?
I cut the cable years ago.
Some areas may not have a choice, but if you do….
There are better ways to get TV.

  11. Teague says:

Glad those who missed it got it back.

But it is really hard to feel sorry for either Scripps or Cablevision.

    • serutan says:

Agreed, it’s difficult to feel any sympathy for either.
I’m presuming the one that caved was the one taking the
      biggest financial hit (probably Scripps).

  12. Tieshia says:

This has made me a very very happy woman. I rely on my FN to take me away from the everyday drama of life. I shed a little tear on 1/1/10. Now I’m happy again!

  13. TANYA MARLENE SMITH says:

YEY, I WAS SO EXCITED TO HEAR ON THE EARLY MORNING NEWS ABOUT FOOD NETWORK BACK IN ACTION. I TURNED RIGHT TO IT AND GOT VERY DISAPPOINTED WHEN I STILL SAW NO DATA AVAILABLE! BUT TO MY SURPRISE THERE WAS PAID PROGRAMS ON! NOT LONG AFTER THERE WAS VIVA DAISY. I’M SURE THIS HAS MADE ALOT OF HOUSEHOLDS A LITTLE LIGHTER OVER THE PAST 21 DAYS. NOW WE CAN ALL WOW OUR FAMILIES AGAIN!
