Giada Loves Hot Nuts

Published on: February 9, 2010 – 9:21 am by Jillian Madison Comment

I finally got around to watching this weekend’s episode of The Best Thing I Ever Ate (aka: a creative way for the Food Network hosts to promote restaurants that are probably owned by their friends/family). The subject was snack foods, and guess what groundbreaking stuff we learned? Anne Burrell loves nachos, Ted Allen loves pickles, and Giada loves HOT NUTS.

giada-hot-nuts

Seriously. She loves HOT NUTS so much, she gobbles them all up. She can’t stop herself from cramming all the the HOT NUTS down her throat. Luckily for us, she even demonstrated how she eats HOT NUTS:

Roll the video clip!

Giada, if eating HOT NUTS was an Olympic sport, you’d take home the gold medal for sure.

She ate was hot nuts? No wonder Todd skateboards around his workplace and is thrilled to eat heart-shaped scones.

Seriously? This is how you people spend your days? Picking apart every silly nuance of a television personality? You should feel embarrassed & ashamed at how lacking your own lives are that this is the best use of your time, creativity, and energy. Just b/c you don’t have what they may have, doesn’t mean you can’t be happy with where you’re at in life and strive to improve. Grow up.

  4. February 9th, 2010

It’s obvious she’s had a lot of practice.

We all know what Giada will be doing when her FN star fades. Maybe Aunt Raffi will even produce Giada’s first porn flick ;)

You’d think she could have washed her hair for her appearance on the show. She certainly took the time to apply ample bruise colored eye shadow. Looks like she hit herself in the face with the nuts.

Maybe we should leave the gal alone…maybe she loves hot nuts all over her chin. So what.

MWAAAHHAHAHAH!!!! That’s the most hilarious thing ever. And I bet some male Food TV executive guy thought she looked like she was gobbling down a unit and didn’t even say anything like “hey, guys…are you sure we should air this? She looks a bit pornographic”…

I heard about this from my mom, she didn’t tell me they were “hot nuts.” We went to the Union Square Cafe where you could get the hot nuts, but they are only served at the bar. I would have loved some hot nuts ;)

  14. February 9th, 2010

    >>>>> a creative way for the Food Network hosts to promote restaurants that are probably owned by their friends/family

Exactly. Or owned by other FN celeb chefs, even.

    February 9th, 2010

Could there be any more pathetic excuse for a program than to watch people sit around and describe things they ate once? I mean, really, watching people eat as entertainment is pretty pathetic (which is what most of FN programming is becoming, when its not game shows) but just talking heads talking about eating? That’s like a new all-time abyss for FN.

Regarding the comment about the hosts advertising their friends and family on the show, Aarón Sánchez has showcased HIS MOM’s restaurant, his co-host on Chefs vs. City Chris Cosentino’s, and Iron Chef Michael Symon’s restaurant. Apparently he only eats at places where they don’t charge him to eat. Or live, regarding his mommy.

He probably figured out that after watching shows about the recommended restaurants, Food Network fans run to the restaurant being showcased, and figured HIS MOM needed blatant and shameless promotion.

    Seriously???

Spice Weasel replied on: February 9th, 2010 at 3:19 pm

    ha ha ha! so true!

    |
Di replied on: February 9th, 2010 at 6:25 pm

Well I guess Aaron’s mom’s restaurant came before his, and she taught him a lot of what he knows, so maybe he’s paying her back, like the good boy that he is ?

But overall it’s SO true what you said. The obvious cross-promotions are shameless.

Ferd Berfle replied on: February 9th, 2010 at 6:35 pm

When one of the FN hosts of “The Best Thing, etc.” went completely orgasmic over deli meat in a freakin’ sno-cone cup at Chris Cosentino’s restaurant, I knew the whole thing was a big joke.

Didn’t see this. By hot nuts, does she mean hot as in temperature, or hot as in spicy?

  26. February 9th, 2010

I’m more disturbed by the use of white eyeliner on her UPPER eyelids to make her eyes look bigger, than I am of her obsession with HOT NUTS. Yikes, talk about planning.

Someone said on a previous post that Giada is the most reddiculous person on TFN. I was about to argue that Pat Neely was the most asinine person on that network, but after watching that video, I have to concede defeat. Oh my god! I’m watching Best Thing I Ever Ate as I type this and her Hot Nuts segment just came on. How fortuitous. What’s with all the close-ps of her mouth? It’s like zooming in to the Grand Canyon. What an ass!!!

Martin replied on: February 10th, 2010 at 10:26 pm

    Ingredients:
    * 2 1/4 cups (18-ounces) assorted unsalted nuts, including peeled peanuts, cashews, Brazil nuts, hazelnuts, walnuts, pecans and whole unpeeled almonds
    * 2 tablespoons coarsely chopped fresh rosemary leaves
    * 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
    * 2 teaspoons dark brown sugar
    * 2 teaspoons Maldon or other sea salt
    * 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted

    Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Toss the nuts in a large bowl to combine and spread them out on a baking sheet. Toast in the oven until light golden brown, about 10 minutes.

In a large bowl, combine the rosemary, cayenne, sugar, salt and melted butter.Thoroughly toss the toasted nuts in the spiced butter and serve warm. And once you eat these, you will never want to stop.

Ha, Chris, I thought of the same thing! I’ve seen many tributes to that song on YouTube, but the one you linked to is definitely one of the best. I had to laugh, though, at the photo of “egg whites” early on in the song–I’m pretty sure Chef meant raw egg whites, not hard-boiled! Loved the video anyway. :-)
