Food Network Quietly Implements TV Schedule Changes
Posted on March 30th 2010 by Jillian Madison

If you’re one of Tyler Florence’s 8 fans, we’ve got some bad news for you: Tyler’s Ultimate lost its 3:30 afternoon time slot to Anne Burrell’s Secrets Of A Restaurant Chef. And that’s not all that’s a-changin’ at the Food Network.

Tyler’s Ultimate has now been given the dreaded 11 am timeslot, which has historically been the kiss of death for Food Network series. Tyler replaced Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello, who apparently got the boot from the network. Simply Delicioso, Viva Daisy, and Healthy Appetite with Ellie Krieger also lost their morning timeslots and Food Network is currently not listing any upcoming episodes.

Also, the Food Network finally listened to me and removed the awful show Ask Aida from their weekend line-up. This news comes right from the horse’s mouth, folks. According to Aida Mollenkamp’s Facebook page, Ask Aida will be moved to the new Cooking Channel when it launches later this year. Aida will also be hosting another unnamed show on the Cooking Channel, which we can only hope will suck significantly less.

To the best of our knowledge, the Food Network didn’t even formally announce any of these changes. They left them for the viewers to figure out on their own. We don’t have any further information at the moment, but will update you as we learn more.

(Thanks for the tip, Brian!)

  1. Jill (not Jillian) says:

Anne Burrell right after Guy Fee-eddy?????? How will we be able to tell the difference in shows?

So, the FN lumped my least favorite shows into a 2 hour block…..Aunt Sandy, Bobby, Guy and now Anne.

  2. CherryRose says:

No mention of Robin Miller who has followed Michael Chiarello in his late morning time slot. Does this mean that the scary, skinny, bug-eyed stay-at-home-soccer-mom will stay at FN? I thought it would soon be time for Robin’s crazy life to leave the airwaves…and take her redundant recipes with her.

    • Alex says:

I think she’s doomed to stay. Don’t you remember Tuschman’s obsession with stay-at-home and soccer moms?

    • boke1 says:

I could never bring myself to watch a whole episode of Robin’s shitshow. Too many teryaki recipes and v-neck sweater with t-shirt outfits. I liked Chiarello’s food but not his inexplicable Napa Valley arrogance, gay tendencies even with his beard of a wife in the room and gag-inducing pronounciation of the letter L. Llllater Chiarelllllllo. It’s been a real sllllllice of fresh mozzarellllllla. Hope you and that clueless Mollllllenkamp chick enjoy rellllllative obscurity.

      • stoup says:

I have never laughed so hard! My family is looking at me like I’m nuts. I literally have tears running down my face. Good stuff, good stuff!

  3. Lana says:

Also, this just in from Aida’s Facebook, “I’ve never smoked Thai chiles”

I have, but I didn’t inhale. Thank you. That is all.

  4. Teague says:

What are the chances that they’ll actually put n some decent shows?

  5. La says:

I wish they’d put in some Asian cooking shows. How is it possible that they have none?

  6. Kenneth says:

I was wondering why Anne Burrell came on this afternoon! And to be honest, I didn’t even know Ask Aida was still on.

  7. TennisAce says:

I am one of the 8 Tyler’s Ultimate fans as I really like his show and thought his recipes were pretty easy to follow. I have tried a few of them and found them quite tasty. I also liked Easy Entertaining as it was just as its name implies. Really good food that you could prepare ahead of time and put together either for lunches or dinner parties. I never did like Ask Aida and most of the Spanish shows I think are way overdone. Enough of the rolling of the Rs and too many tacos and tortillas.

  8. Alex says:

Food Network tries too hard to be racially diverse. Their hosts and programs end up becoming caricatures of their respective cultures.

  9. Jamie says:

Thank GOD Tyler is off that slot! I don’t really care for Anne, but Tyler is just unwatchable/unlistenable to me. I often turn on FN in the afternoons while my daughter is napping so I have some background sound while cleaning/etc. But until now, I have had to drop what I’m doing to turn off Tyler. I just can’t listen to him! I can even tolerate PAULA DEEN (and god knows I hate her) but not him. YAY.

    • Jamie says:

PS – yes I am aware that mid-afternoon is pretty much a dumping ground. It keeps me from sitting down on the couch to watch. :) I get my chores done because I don’t wanna look at Guy.

    • Nancy T says:

I turn on the Food Network in the afternoons when it’s time for my 2 year old grandson’s nap. It’s the only way he’ll fall asleep!!!

  10. Spatuler says:

Ya know, I think that I’m more disturbed that the Hallmark Channel has implemented a new schedule. No more 3 hour Golden Girls marathon (9am-noon). Now it’s Martha freakin’ Stewart from 11am to infinity. I am slowly losing faith in humanity. Yay!

    • Di says:

I noticed the Martha shows today on Hallmark. They look to be about 20 years old.
Not that that’s NOT a ‘good thing’ ;) necessarily

      • littlemissperfect says:

Actually I’m finding these old (circa 00-04) kinda refreshing. I used to think MS a bit pretentious but after living thru FN and their BS lineup, not so much now.

    • Bonzy22 says:

so agree with you. even tho I’ve seen GG a million times, I still watch them everyday

    • Piglet says:

In all seriousness, I believe that Hallmark Channel was bought by Martha Stewart and is slated to become the Martha Stewart Channel. Which sucks because I too enjoy my GG’s fix.

      • Spatuler says:

NOOOOO!!!! Is there anything left in this world that is sacred??? ANYTHING?? Oh God, I’m about to blow a gasket.

      • Student says:

I live for my daily GG’s marathons, both on Lifetime and WE. I can do my housework and walk back in on the eps without missing anything b/c I’ve seen them a zillion times. Now as soon as Martha comes on I have to watch FN instead. BTW, Martha makes me cringe the way she says “Herbs” with a really hard H. Its like she wants you to say “It’s pronounced Erbs” just so she can correct you and say, “well actually, 13th century french chefs pronounce the hard H’s”. She has the appearance of a woman desperate for a great lay from a young, unemployed auto mechanic.

  11. Spatuler says:

Oh, It’s deffinately NOT a good thing. It is necissarily NOT a good thing.

  12. Bacchus says:

Meanwhile we are stuck watching MF’n cakes from 7-10pm. I’d take Ciarillo over “FN Challenge Engagement Cakes” any day.

    • Tabitha says:

I think we saw “Incredible Anniversary Cakes” come on no less than 5 times this weekend. OMG THE OLD PEOPLE AREN’T REPRESENTED IN THE CAKE ENOUGH!!! DRAMA!!!!!!

Why do I keep turning the damn channel on?? It just continues to hurt me.

  13. Courtney says:

I like watching Sandy because although she’s a train wreck, I can stand it enough to giggle at it. I like Bobby because he’s cute. Guy Fieri comes on and I’m done with it. Anne Burrell’s grumbly voice is awful. Stop GRRRING AT US. I could mute Guy for a half hour until Tyler, but now it’s not even worth turning on the TV when I wake up in the afternoon.

  14. Val says:

I wish they hadn’t gotten rid of Daisy Martinez– She was easy to watch and had great recipes! Most other attempts at Latin/Spanish food on the FN are failures.

  15. Scoobie-Doobie-Doo says:

There are programs on FN during the day — what? I only watch at night and during the weekends! Fathom that! From the sounds of it, I’m not missing much.

  16. Mystie says:

I wondered where they had hidden Ellie Krieger’s show. I never watch FN in the mornings, I’m another one who turns it on (if at all) during the mid-afternoon slump where I need to sit with a cup of tea for a bit. I’m sorry to hear they booted Ellie–I think her show was far more relevant and useful than most.

  17. Chickety China, the Chinese Chicken says:

You know, honestly, of all the things that really sucked at FN, Tyler wasn’t one of them. He seemed to know how to cook, he made interesting things, and when he refrained from descending into inane catch phrases (“that’s off the hook!”)it was a fairly entertaining way to waste a half hour.

Now why oh why couldn’t they get that nitwit with the five ingredients off the air… in fact, who let her ON the air???

    • MASCAR-PONAY says:

I’m with you there, I actually liked TyFlo’s recipes, and he did not irritate me the way that AWFUL Anne Burrell does…GAWSH is she hard on the eyes, ears and brain. And you know, I don’t give a flying fig how you do ANYTHING in your freakin’ restauraunt biznatch…..I’m a better chef than you, on a BAD day. Take her condescending ass off FN.

      • Courtney says:

Why does she have to act so condescendingly? It’s so annoying. She talks down to anyone she meets.

      • Chickety China, the Chinese Chicken says:

Ha! Exactly right, she’s like an A.D.D. patient or has Tourets or something. She’s almost embarrassing to watch, and from what I hear, that’s no act, in person she’s crude and impolite and virtually impossible to converse with like an adult.

  18. Andrea says:

I’m shocked there are people out there who like Tyler “doughboy” florence. The guy is a bloated, ego-infused douche. His food is rank, he’s an Applebee’s shill, and he’s not even hot.

    • Jenna says:

I don’t know anyone who likes Tyler Florence, except my obese next door neighbor who is trapped in a loveless marriage. That’s his fan base.

      • Student says:

Do you live in Knoxville? Sorry, I thought you were talking about me, except I’m not obese or in a loveless marriage. I like Tyler, but I’m into that beefy, slightly blaoted, athlete gone to seed look. Like Jason Giambi or an aged frat boy. MMMMMMM yum! (I’m really not kidding)

  19. numb says:

I *really* don’t understand FN… Are there really that many people who would prefer to watch the ‘cooking for the incompetent’ shows like Sandra Lee and Frozen De’Bacon? Not to mention the FOUR THOUSAND ridiculous variations on FN Challenge… Who cares what that headband chick things about four boring cakes designed around the Flintstones?

Ug. I’m not a fan of Tyler as a person by ANY stretch of the imagination, but at least he was really cooking on the damn FOOD Network. His dishes were usually good, well thought out, and not insulting to the viewer (see: anything by Sandra Lee “I know you can’t make real alfredo sauce, so just mix some velvetta and miracle whip and call it a day; nobody will notice after you’ve drown them in booze!”).
Also, I liked Easy Entertaining. Sure, the dude was a prima-donna, but he was engaging and (once again) made really decent food.

I vote FN be forced to change their name to the “Cake and Chemical-laden-food-substitute Network.”

  20. Boston_Dan says:

Food Network never makes any announcements about schedule changes, they just leave it up to us to figure out. That’s how little they regard their viewers.

To me it was no surprise that they deposited Daisy Martinez and Ingrid Hoffman on the trash heap. That’s why they brought in the younger Latina with the bigger rack, whose name escapes me at the moment. And I think even she’s history at this point. I’m not missing Chiarello. How many times per show did he refer to ingredients as “these guys”? Nails on a chalkboard.

Another poster was right. Ellie Krieger’s show was the most relevant and helpful in the line up. I miss her.

So FN is launching a new channel called the Cooking Channel? What shows are they going to out on that? They’re already content starved. Witness all the repeats dating back to 2004. And I could not stand one more stupid cake show or one more stupid competition. UGGGHHHH!

Let’s start a Food Network Hall of Failure and kick it off with Party Line with the Hearty Boys! Remember that abomination? We could also add Will Work For Food, Food Detectives, Unwrapped, Rachel Ray’s Tasty Travels With Her Scuzzy Husband, etc., etc.

    • Dick Black says:

      Boston Dan,

That is a brilliant idea. Something that could be become a regular feature here.

Remenber Flay’s first of his 13 grill shows, Grillin and Chillin with Jack McDavid ? Thats a Hall of Fame candidate.

    • KatW says:

      Boston Dan,

The Latina to whom you are referring is Marcela Valladolid of “Mexican Made Easy.” She’s supposed to air on Saturday mornings at 9:30 Eastern but is no longer on the weekly schedule. She lasted only two months. That’s got to be a FN record.

I did like Ellie Krieger. Several of her recipes are in my “keeper” file.

    • Jonathan Doan says:

Food Detectives was a fun show! Though, Ted Allen can be a bit grating after 30 minutes of trying-to-be-funny-with-a-straight-face.

  21. numb says:

On a only-slightly-related note, I really wish they’d bring back Ham on the Streets – HotS and Good Eats were really the only reason I watched FN… so now I’m down to just GE.

    • Roo says:

I agree! I loved Ham on the Street. Although his recipes were a bit odd*, he was fun to watch.

*I made the mistake of trying his Chocolate Lasagna recipe, for the first time, on my in-laws. I thought my MIL was going to puke! :)

      • numb says:

He recipes *were* odd, but many of them were great. His deconstructed buffalo wings are *still* one of my absolute favorite recipes in the world. Also, even though I was definitely doubting him on it, his claim that JELLY was a positive addition to grilled cheese somehow turned out to be true. Like he says, any cheese + any jelly (combined in a grilled cheese sandwich) = delicious. I’ve yet to find a combo that doesn’t turn out incredible (although admittedly I don’t stray too far from normal on the bread choice).

    • stoup says:

Yeah, whatever happened to Ham On The Street? Didn’t he take over The Secret Life Of… and then that one went off the air.
Now that guy is hosting the Cake Challenge on TLC and doing canned tomato commercials, I think.

      • Student says:

I saw Ham cook in person at an expo and he was really nice. He was funny too. I loved his recipes for peanut butter and jelly bread pudding (weird, I know) and all his other weird recipes. They were creative and got me thinking about different combinations, unlike Rachael “How many ways can I make a burger” Ray. I mean seriouly every show I watch of hers is “Today lets make a chicken alfredo burger” “Today we are cooking a vietnemese stir fry burger” . Just because you find a way to smush a “real” recipe’s ingrediants into a patty, does not make it a frickin burger!

  22. JO says:

I’ve been taking some market research surveys for Scripps (FN, HGTV). In addition to reviewing new shows (mostly for HGTV so far), they also have quick clips of prospective shows that are going to air. It seems that literally 95% of the new content consists of “reality shows”. That appears to be the direction that both HGTV and FN are going. It makes sense that the new Cooking Channel will have (surprise) cooking shows leaving FN to have all the cooking competition shows they can pack into their lineup.

    • Bob says:

When I heard that FN was coming out with the cooking channel all I could think of is they’re becoming the new MTV. They have 3 (or possibly more) channels and one barely plays videos. If they fill it with “reality shows” and cake competitions, I won’t watch. I hardly watch the channel anymore as it’s gone down hill for years.

  23. stoup says:

As long as they don’t give Guy Fee-eddy, Retched Ray or Pauler Deen any more shows, I’ll stick around FN for awhile.

  24. ugh, i’m so glad to see ellie gone. i don’t know why, but she just got on my nerves. i mean, eating healthy is great and she seems to know what she’s talking about. it’s just the way she comes off. i think part of it is the way she seems to have some aversion to touching the food. not to mention the way she even measures the salt and pepper. i guarantee she’d probably use less salt if she just used her fingers, but she just acts like touching anything but a measuring cup/spoon will give her cooties.

  25. Havoc says:

“Also, the Food Network finally listened to me and removed the awful show Ask Aida from their weekend line-up.”

    LOL!!

Yes…all FN decisions are based on your thorough and thoughtful suggestions…

    LMFAO

  26. Scruffy says:

Ellie has this holier-than-thou aura to her, whether it’s intended or not. I’ve never liked her.

    • Barb says:

Ellie never stopped smiling. Ever. That’s not normal or natural. My husband said she looks like she secretly eats children. He has a point.

I think children are very healthy. If they’re grass-fed they’re even healthier.

  27. Daria says:

Speaking of Ellie, I had been wondering why I hadn’t seen any new shows of hers in a while. And I noticed while watching a re-run the other day , that the background music is the exact same as they use on the new Barefoot Contessa “Back to Basics” show. That didn’t seem like a good sign.

Her recipes were hit and miss, some were pretty good and others were pretty disgusting. BUT she had the only show run by a nutritionist to teach us recipes that were much healthier than the average FN stuff, while telling us why they were healthy. It was annoying to me how she carefully measured everything, but again it was to limit the amount of fat, salt etc.
Oh well, after the fiasco with using the Big Mac to make a “home cooked” meal with I kind of lost respect for her anyway.

    • Scruffy says:

I think FN uses alot of public domain music and recycles it quite a bit. I’ve heard some of the songs other places before completely unrelated to FN. Or they buy from the same generic music house everyone else does. You’d think they’d compose their own, but considering Sandra probably expense reports all her liquor, there went that budget.

    • boke1 says:

Mango, anyone? Ellie. Honey. C’mon. Enough. And the hair? Your undernourished, overpineappled stylist is clearly in cahoots with your substandard orthodonist.

  28. Matt says:

The food network has become a boring reality show. Bring back Batali,Ciarrelli and Tyler. Tell Giada to stick to authentic Italian recipes and stop the chocolat and pastries bit. Rachel should stick to Uncle Emmanuels recipes. Where is the next Julia Childs and Jacques Peppin? – I now have to turn on PBS to get great chefs.——Get rid of your talent scouts.

  29. Jean says:

the food network has gone crazy. I love Tyler Florence and will not be watching the fat hog Anne Burrell. SHE SUCKS1
