On the premiere episode of the Food Network Humor podcast, we talk our favorite/least favorite celebrity chefs and share some inside details on which Food Network personalities love us – and which ones, well, not so much. We recap Next Food Network Star, ponder what’s up with Claire Robinson’s voice, debate Sandra Lee’s comedic value, and wonder if Ina Garten actually plants her own hydrangeas. We finish up with listener mails and twitter questions.

Since we’re so new, we’re not indexed or searchable in the iTunes library yet… but stay tuned, because that functionality will be coming soon. And please hang in there while we work through all the kinks in the podcast!

Next week, we’ll be launching an FNH app for iPhone/iPod, which will include bonus content and outtakes from the show, and you can easily stream the show to your mobile device right from the app.

In the meanwhile, keep those voicemails, emails, and twitter questions coming! You can call us at 206-426-4408, email us at jill@foodnetworkhumor.com, or twitter us at @fnhumor.

The link doesn’t let you download it, it just launches it as a Quicktime movie. I needs me a file to slap on my iPod!

I got it through iTunes. To anyone trying to do the same, just click on Advanced on the top menu bar of iTunes, select Subscribe to Podcast, then paste the link Jillian provided into the box.

I just suggested this to Zune for review. Good luck!

I am scared to open it. I’m afraid it will be a joke where the podcast is 23 minutes of Anne Burrell grunting.

Nicely done and quite funny. I enjoyed the expanded commentary on NFNS as well as the reader emails and voice mails (the call from the woman in Jamaica being a highlight of the latter). Keep up the good work, and I’ll look forward to next week’s edition.

Karen from Jamaica was terrific! Great job, Jillian and Michelle. Jill, I think the “d” in Dzintra is silent, meaning pronounce it Zintra. Loved the Shutter Island reference. LOL

Loved this podcast guys, great job and really solid first episode. And for the record, there’s no freaking way Ina Garten plants her own vegetables.

The reason Ina invites people to parties and tells them what to bring is to be sure they bring the ‘good’ ingredients. Grocery store brand ice cream would ruin the party.

And the reason Ina can get away with it is that she can have you buried alive in her gardren if you don’t comply.

    Thanks for starting the podcast!

Claire Robinson is hot. I don’t even care what her voice sounds like. The fact that she likes golf earned her major brownie points too.

Looking forward to next week’s podcast! Will you be keeping the same format? When will the app be available?

Sorry, I got throught the first few minutes and got bored. I have a short attention span.

“Sorry” but if you have a short attention span, why is it noteworthy/commentworthy to share that you got through the first few minutes and got bored?

Anyway, loved the podcast. The food network is a totally untapped market and I think you ladies tackled it well. It was informative and filled with plenty of lols.

I will be sure to write and call in some time.

    Great first podcast!!

  10. June 15th, 2010

This was pretty cool! I enjoyed it. I think it’s funny that you two are sisters and Jillian has a thick accent and Michelle doesn’t. Looking forward to the next one, I will definitely call or write in.

Anyone have a transcript for this? I have bad listening skills, but can read quickly.

Jen replied on: June 15th, 2010 at 4:56 pm

It would be nice, to be sure, including for those of us who rely on lip-reading to augment poor hearing. I do recognize that transcripts are a lot of work, so I’ve learned to deal.

Nice work ladies! My husband and I listened together and it’s the first podcast we agree on since we both watch so much of the food network and love this site.

But Jillian how can you watch Sandra Lee?

I have one suggestion: Make it longer!!! I had a great time listening while I was preparing camp lunches for my two daughters this morning.

i laughed so hard when you were talking about Katz’s deli in NYC. i work at Rays pizza next store. the hype around that place is just too much. i know its an old deli that was probably great many years ago but these days the food seems sub-par

enjoyed it. i wish it was a video cast though :)

  17. June 15th, 2010

Damn! I don’t have an ipod :(. I can’t get the extra good stuff.

BTW, Thanks for making the podcast guys!

  18. June 15th, 2010

Great podcast. Very informative on the restaurants the Food Network recommends. Like the Katz deli’s ticket and lousy food. It would be great to here somethin about that show “The best thing I ever ate”. That has to be a big bs session also.

yep, I want to hear a bit about the best thing I ever ate too the foodgasms need to be made fun of.

  19. June 15th, 2010

I don’t get how to subscribe to it on iTunes. Can someone please send me the steps how.

    @gongo95,
We aren’t listed in iTunes yet, so we’re not in their search index yet. To manually subscribe in the meanwhile:

    1) open itunes and from the “advanced” tab on the very top, choose “subscribe to podcast.”

    2) enter this in the box: http://foodnetworkhumor.libsyn.com/rss

    3) listen and enjoy

Jillian, great job. I am a podcast junkie and this will be on my must listen to list. A video podcast would be nice, but hey!

  21. June 16th, 2010

Excellent first podcast. Was the perfect accompaniment to a run. My only minor suggestion would be to invest in some good audio equipment down the line, otherwise good stuff!

I don’t know how any of you like Shentessa though. One of these days I’m leaving a voicemail explaining why I think she’s a pretentious cow.

And I promise to dial back slightly on my Melissa dislike now. We need to hear the Tyler saga though.

  22. June 16th, 2010

Great podcast! I’ll be subscribing as soon as I figure it out. ;-)

And is it just me, or does “Next Food Network Star” sometimes feel like “Top Chef Rejects”? Would any of these folks NOT be told by Padma to “pack their knives and go”? And how many current Food Network Stars could make it on “Top Chef Masters”? (At least Michael Chiarello was a finalist in Season 1, but he had already left FN years ago.)

  23. June 16th, 2010

Excellent podcast! It made my morning walk fly by. More, please.
