Alton Brown’s Serious Vanilla Ice Cream
![]() |
This just in from the pages of Food Network Screw-Ups! Feast your eyes on the photo they used for Alton Brown’s serious vanilla ice cream. Mmm! So meaty! So refreshing!

Is there really anything more satisfying on a hot summer day than a scoop of meat on a cone? I THINK NOT.
And guess what, parents?

Thanks, Food Network! And thanks for the tip, Suzanne!
(UPDATE: Food Network removed the picture of whatever the hell that meat thing was 24 hours after we posted this article. Someone’s reading, eh?)

THIS WEEK: Another tailgating weekend! Alex G's onion rings, an awful slow cooker experience, Ina & Jeffrey Garten's lame steak throwdown, Jennifer Hudson's annoying Weight Watchers commercial, Restaurant Impossible's cheap makeovers, and more.

My daughter Maddy would like it. She’s a self-professed “carnivore”. Vegetarians–not so much.
And how come the Serious Vanilla Ice Cream doesn’t have any vanilla in it?

It’s there, the picture is just cut off before the ingredient.
Yeah, I went to the FN website and looked it up. I posted without checking first. Shouldn’t do that–I can be ALMOST as much of a dolt as them sometimes. I say “almost” because even *I* would check to make sure my pictures matched the food group of the finished recipe before I posted it…
FYI, you didn’t have to go to the site to look it up! I included the link in the post. Links should show up as red text. In this case, the words “serious vanilla ice cream” would have taken you to the post on Food Net.
I sincerely hope it is GOOD vanilla!
Tastes like chicken!
Wonder how long it will take for them to correct the mistake by pretending it was intentional.
Isn’t that what they always do?
What kind of retarded interns work on their website?? OTOH, if they aren’t interns, they should pretend they are…
Niiiiice. Although you know, thinking about meat & ice cream now… bacon bits would probably taste pretty good on some ice cream… Watch, that’ll be the next $50 dessert trend on up-and-coming fine dining menus.
It’s been around for a while, Numb:

;^)
I’m well aware of bacon ice cream – I’m talking about a bacon garnish on regular ole’ ice cream. I’m thinking chocolate specifically. I’m gonna try it next time I have a scoop.
Add vodka to the wet ingredients in a blender with ice. Put that big honkin’ piece of meat in the crockpot with your favorite BBQ sauce and seasoning packet. Now for the tablescape……
Two thoughts… First, thanks to FN’s tiny fonts, at first I thought the episode’s title was “Chum Baby Chum,” in which case the picture makes a lot more sense.
And second, I foresee a Two-Gallon Meat Sundae Challenge in Adam Richman’s future.
I just looked, JVWALT, and it DOES look like “chum baby chum!” YIKES!!!!!
That brown food does not look good!
We should take bets on how long the picture stays up! Winner gets one tobacco cupcake topped with Anne Burrell’s BAAAHHLAAACK roasted red peppers. :)
That’s not a bet I want to win.
I was looking for a vanilla ice cream recipe for the 4th of July holiday and I ran across this. The picture actually repulsed me and turned me off of making it so I went with another of Alton’s ice cream recipes.
I wonder if they have taken this picture down and replaced it with ALL of their ice cream pictures.
It’s this in case you were wondering…

I’m also slightly confused by the addition of peach preserves in a vanilla ice cream… seriously peaches & cream?
Well, the last bit of the recipe says “Do not let it boil”…this must be what happens!
I’ll admit, I have only made one vanilla ice cream recipe ever. But I’m pretty sure it didn’t look like that. But ice cream that looks like whale meat does sound intriguing.
Mmmmmm. Vanilla flavoured whale.
soooooooooooooooo meaty
<3 the Soup!
Maybe “they” don’t like AB anymore?
Something smells fishy to me :(
Why doesn’t my ice cream look like roast beef? I guess it’s not serious enough. :(
Ha!
By the bye, I just went and looked, and as of 3:30 pm, Pacific time, it’s still up. They really ARE morons.
They’ll take it down in a little while, then a little later put up pictures of ALL their recipes, just so people don’t get the wrong idea.
good one! :-D
The overly paranoid part of my personality says that FN is doing that deliberately to make Alton look like a goof.
I think you’re giving them WAY too much credit there, Dog. I’m pretty sure THEY’RE the goofs over there…
Nothing says summertime like a nice cow-flavored ice cream cone.
Well, it’s midnight and the meaty ice cream is still up. Some of the comments are getting pretty good, too.
If I were a FN intern I’d probably go around screwing things up for laughs and then fixing them the next day.
I think the Food Network people heard about AB helping us out and decided to extract some revenge on him with this.
…by the way, I have no clue if that’s a pun or not. Does it use extract?
Awww, it’s down. No word of apology (I sent them an email) or excuse–it’s just gone.
Someone there is reading this site. Because the picture, of what ever that was is gone. is gone.
Still up Teague Noon EST 7/9/10 — look at “Serious” Vanilla Ice Cream
I see the recipe but no sign of the picture.
Will the real Jamie from Mesa, AZ please stand up for posting in FN’s comments section: “Awesome recipe. I did not know that ice cream could look like that. What would you call this? Meat cream? Lactose free brisket cream? Huh. I need to make this again, mine was just not like the picture”.
Now the recipe and the funny comments are gone. All that’s left is a message saying “Sorry, we bit off more than we could chew and had a hiccup.” I’ll say! But I do miss the comments…
That’s ok- here’s Alton’s yummy pan seared ribeye:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/pan-seared-rib-eye-recipe/index.html
Minus the Ribeye. Or a Recipe.
I see they just give you the ingredients and turn you loose. What is it, Buyer Beware on FoodNetwork.com now? Or should that be more appropriately be, Chef Beware?
I laughed really hard at the kid eating the meat cone.
i’m reading this at work, and i laughed SO hard at this i had to cover it up with a coughing fit.
