George Duran Is A Funny Man
![]() |
Here at FNH, we poke fun at celebrity chefs and the often ridiculous world of food television. Sometimes, those chefs get pissy and write us emails whining like 7 year old girls (TyFlo, we’re looking at you). But sometimes, they’re able to recognize the silliness of it all and play along. Take George Duran, for example. Last week, we featured his delicious “Aromatherapy Hot Towels” as our “Ridiculous Food Network Recipe Of The Week.” Did he get pissed and whine and moan about it and force Food Network to replace the recipe? No! He wrote us this hilarious email instead. Check it out:

Damn you Food Network Humor!
I developed my rosemary hot towel recipe many years ago and I forgot to write in a few crucial steps. You see, you’re supposed to microwave the towel with the rosemary and then you need to drench it in egg whites. From there take some Panko breadcrumbs and season it with some Old Bay. Take the drenched towel and bread it with the Panko. Get it into the deep fryer and voila! Deep Fried Rosemary Towel Rolls! See? I know what I’m doing…sorta…
I can’t get enough of your site! Thanks!
George Duran

If you want further proof George Duran is funny, you can go to his official website – where you’ll find a photo of him hovering in the atmosphere dressed in a space suit surrounded by planetary donuts. I rest my case.

THIS WEEK: Another tailgating weekend! Alex G's onion rings, an awful slow cooker experience, Ina & Jeffrey Garten's lame steak throwdown, Jennifer Hudson's annoying Weight Watchers commercial, Restaurant Impossible's cheap makeovers, and more.

I’ve always tough George Duran was a funny dude, and that picture on his website is incredible. I also checked out some of the recipes he had on his site and I must say, the chocolate soup… I had a foodgasm just looking at it. :D
and by tough, I mean thought
He’s a good sport! I always liked him on Ham on the Street.
Me too. I wish that show was still on!
Agreed! I still use the microwave brownie recipe he did on the show every once in a while.
Chef celebrates FNH. FN censors FNH (my comment’s gone). Paranoid Tuschman?
It’s always nice to see reactions like this. A little humility and self-deprecating humor goes a long way toward making a “celebrity chef” likable.
OMG George, the Old Bay makes all the difference in the world.
I was just wondering if anyone had tried the Rosemary Aromatherapy on a 3 Wolf T-shirt? The world may not be ready for such a potent combo….
George Duran: you officially rule! LOL
Its so cool to know some people have a sense of humor! What I would like to know, though, is what TyFlo wrote to Jill?
Me too! Maybe I came in too late to hear about that, but I MUST know.
No kidding. I’ve spent way too much time trying to find a post about TyFlo’s email and it’s nowhere to be found. POST IT!!!
I think he threatened to sue her if she didn’t stop “harassing” him… what a loser.
I’m not sure Jill actually posted the email or not but I do remember her making a comment that he threatened to sue her for harassment.
I used to watch Tyler but after finding out what a self-absorbed, arrogant jerk he really was, I just couldn’t bear to watch him anymore because of the bitter taste that would occur in my mouth everytime he came on.
I’m not familiar with Duran except that I believe I saw him on a TV commercial once. Nevertheless, if he doesn’t take himself quite as seriously as Boober Flay, that’s probably a good thing.
Not surprised with the cool reply, always loved HOTS. Best pure entertainment show FN ever televised. Those crappy commercials he is in do not do him justice.
Ham on the Street was awesome. I was even on one of the shows because they filmed it right outside my old workplace and I knew all the guys who worked on the show.
He definitely was real funny and down to Earth off camera as well.
Phenomenal..hahaha..Jill I think u have charming persona..even FN chef cannot ressist to give a shot..love this FNH so much:-D
Ahh, I see now. Crispy towels must taste sooo much better ^_^
I agree that it’s awesome people can learn to laugh and themselves and take a joke. I wish other celebrity chefs would get off their high tower of fondant and ribs to as well… (not directed at anyone in particular)
Good for you, George! I love a person with a good sense of humor.
Why doesn’t HE have as many shows as Guy Fieri???
lol I always call him Duran Duran. Anywhoo, I always watched that show Ham on the Street. Too bad FN made it disappear.
Duran and Ann are definitely the best sports on the FN!
I don’t think that it’s just a coincidence that the only 2 people worth watching on the FN also happen to have the best senses of humor about themselves
Too bad that the powers that be at FN don’t recognize this, but instead, continue to push the silly and absurd ass clowns as the template for hosts.
I never watched Ham On The Street (it was on the air before my FN addiction began) but I just ordered his cookbook based solely on the above email… George Duran you are awesome!
I’ve always liked him, except when the Candy Convention specials would air, and my feelings towards him turned into blindingly jealous rage.
But every other time, love the guy.
I like Ham on the Street and George did have some pretty good recipes on that show, but it’s even better to see that he has a sense of humor and that he also knows how to cook a towel.
Whatever happened to this guy’s show on the FN? I can’t remember the name of it to save my life but I remember watching and I remember that I liked it. It seems a real shame that some people on the network have had shows for what feels like forever (and long, long after they ceased to be interesting) while great hosts with fresh and interesting shows don’t seem to last for very long.
I’m glad he has a sense of humor since he is so totally miscast on that show Ultimate Cake Off. In fact the whole show is pretty bad, especially Leigh Grode.
The scary thing is George’s towels probably STILL taste better than anything Guy Ferry would put together.
I actually liked the fan mail section on his website. Very funny :)
I’ve always found something hotttt about him..grrrr. Wonder if he likes petite red heads with green eyes?
:)
I’m glad to see he’s lowered his diva quotient since the Alton Brown gluttony incident.
That was Adam Richman, not George Duran!
Who I wouldn’t say has any sort of diva quotient, either. Very puzzling.
George is clearly a good sport. Nice way to play along!
Ha!
I used to watch Pop Cuisine; Cuisine TV used to have quirky shows like his on…no longer.
Always liked that dude, despite his wonky kitchen tips!
I love George Duran! The end.
