Rachael Ray In The Unfunniest “Funny Or Die” Video Ever
Posted on May 23rd 2011 by Jillian Madison

Props to Rachael Ray for, albeit subtly, publicly paying homage to how painfully lame her catchphrases are (YUM-O and DELISH!) – but her willingness to play along wasn’t enough to save this “Funny or Die” video from completely bombing. Comedy’s definitely not her thing but at least she gave it the old college try. Don’t quit your day job, Ray-Ray.

(Hat tip to Aimee for sending this in!)

I didn’t hate it. Truthfully. Not a bad actress… and I love people that can make fun of themselves.

    No… not ROTFLMAO funny… but… not horrible.

    • mike says:

without question she was the best thing in the entire skit. Yes that did suck but it wasn’t because of her. There are a plethora of reasons to rip on RR,I’ll wait until one of those pop up to pile on-should happen any minute now, anyway…

      • Mark H88 says:

exactly. The production, other acting in the video, and the writing were god awful!! Not even the best actor could have looked good in that atrocity

    • crashandtumble8 says:

I didn’t think that it was unfunny….it could have been WAY funnier, but Rachel Ray could have also been WAY better. They had SO MANY Rachel Ray phrases to mock her with!

  2. Sterson Jo says:

Not funny. Also, I was wishing bad things on the douchebag patrol. (waah but they’re just actors! well they are still douchebags).

  3. jj says:

Good to know she can laugh at herself.

Still – is it just me, or is there something really weird about Ray Ray in a scene where expletives are uttered? I half expected her to shatter.

  4. Mary says:

The funniest thing in that video: “Ten points to Gryffindor.”

    • Oob Oob Yittik says:

*high fives* that was the funniest line.

And honestly, that skit just plain sucked. Not like I’m nominating her for an Oscar, but I think the suck factor of that whole deal was not entirely attributed to RR – it was just bad all the way around.

  5. Brown Sugar says:

I actually loved the billboard at the end.

  6. Kathy says:

I happened to be flipping channels and when I reached the local affiliate that airs her show, she was playing this video. 30 seconds was all I could stand.

  7. Plumpy says:

I would like complete and utter silence to be Rach’s next catch-phrase.

  8. Tom says:

I thought it was pretty funny. She did some pretty good acting and she looked good. Her cuteness comes and goes, but she looked good this time.

  9. Jaydub says:

I gotta concur with above – this was one of the few things RR has done in years that she shouldn’t be ashamed of.

  10. Catherine says:

It’s cool when “celebrities” have a sense of humor about the things that make them obnoxious. They’re just people, like the rest of us, and these sorts of things make them seem more real and less douchey-fake-egomaniacal.

  11. Chris says:

I think Ratches sudden show of self deprecation is directly attributed to Jillian`s unceasing critiques. Maybe she’s finally gettin’ her shit together and resembling an actual human being.

  12. jennylola says:

i actually thought this was funny. when they said “catchphrase-taint”. am not a rr fan at all, but kinda liked her in this

  13. Lisaa says:

Sadly, i didn’t hate her. I hated all of the people equally

  14. snuzzle says:

She’s just so smarmy. Even in this video. It’s like, she thinks her catchphrases are normal so the only way she can make you see they’re not ridiculous is by coming up with completely out there non sequiturs.

I mean, she actually has a dog food and she named it “Nutrish”. It’s just obnoxious.”Nutrish”? I don’t care if it was the best food in the world (it’s crap anyway), that name makes me not want to but it ever regardless.

I don’t know. Just came off as trying too hard.

  15. FatCat says:

I actually thought she’d be worse– she actually made me laugh a couple times. But I agree that having expletives said in front of RR was truly disturbing.

  16. Tiger says:

She’s the funniest thing about it, anyway. I like her a lot better when she’s not pretending to be cheerful. I think the eye rolling kind of bitchy persona is more who she really is, and I’d be more inclined to have less burning loathing for her if she went with that instead of the creature she currently becomes when it’s time to do her show.

  17. JackEughlayte says:

Starting to show her age but I’d still do her. Really. Yes, I mean that.

  18. Orni says:

It’s sketches like that that make me wish I had a Rachael Ray garbage bowl on hand.

  19. Roger says:

Admittedly, I got a halfie just thinking about RR saying “taint”. What is WRONG with me?!

  20. Fia says:

Funny Or Die is rarely funny. In fact, I find most things they produce to be as obnoxious as Rachael Ray, and this was no exception. That’s three minutes of my morning I’ll never get back!

  21. Jules says:

Her eyebrows were practically jumping out of my computer screen and yelling at me. They were definitely in my face.

  22. FuryOfFirestorm says:

The “taint” catchphrase and the “SHOVE IT!” billboard had me LOLing.

  23. GFV says:

As a 34 year veteran of the ad business all I can say is that this video is painfully realistic. So glad I am retired.

  24. Goober says:

Are these guys supposed to be rejects from the Boiler Room?

One of the unfunnier things I’ve seen from Funny or Die, but it’s due to no fault of RR’s.

  25. Lisa says:

Ohhh…I actually really liked that! The guys are hysterical. I like when the one guy had the really long catchphrase, something like “I’m Rachael Ray and you want to have dinner with me…” Very clever overall! RR wasn’t too bad.

  26. Timmy says:

The douchebags were laying it on too thick. I think they ruined it by being too smarmy. It was really their skit and not Rachael’s, so I think the blame for it sucking really falls on them and not her.

  27. Teague says:

She did okay. She’s not a comedian. Any issues with the bit weren’t her’s. They dragged it out a little too long. The billboard was funny.

  28. Erin says:

So stupid I didn’t even watch it all.

  29. ron says:

Nobody hates Rachael Ray more than I do, but in all honesty, although it wasn’t roll on the floor funny, it wasn’t as bad as it was made out to be either!

    • I thought it was the least funny Funny or Die video I have ever seen and I stand by that!

      • Liz says:

Not that I thought the RR one was hilarious by any means, but for some really cringeworthy comedic acting and writing I still think Ke$ha’s Funny or Die about the $ in her name takes the cake.

  30. coffee-n-toast says:

The most annoying thing about this video is that it proves that she CAN be normal, which begs the question – WHY can’t she sound like this all the time?? She’s not awful on her talk show, but her cooking shows are absolutely unwatchable because of her loudness, over-enunciation, and obnoxious hand gestures.

  31. Andrea says:

this was almost frighting seeing RR act and talk like a normal human, but I really didn’t get this therefore it wasn’t very funny. basically Rachael is shoved in your face to the point nothing she could ever do would impress me,

  32. David says:

I thought Rachael did a great job. I think there is an actual actor in her… I would like to see her guest star on a scripted sitcom where she does not play herself. Kudos Rach!

  33. Ms. Kira says:

I thought it was great. Really not as bad as I expected, especially with all these comments. That could easily have been on any skit comedy show.

  34. Ida Slapter says:

    Sham wow – loved it!
    Lets get down to Elaine….Benes…

  35. ben says:

I would like complete and utter silence to be Rach’s next catch-phrase. [2]
