MAY 2013 UPDATE: FNH IS NOT DEAD. IT’S ON HIATUS.
Posted on July 25th 2012 by Jillian Madison

Hey everyone!

I just wanted to take a moment to say hello – and to let you all know FNH IS NOT DEAD. It is on hiatus.

The hiatus has admittedly lasted longer than I initially intended BUT IT WILL BE COMING BACK IN 2013 – and better than ever. So stay tuned

Thanks for sticking around and for your patience!
JM

I miss the dumb assery, but I completely understand. It’s just that “Next Food Network Star” was full of so many damn FNH moments that it made me tear up just a little…

  2. Kelli says:

Glad you’re still around but nothing is more important than health and family. Take care Jillian!

  3. Pat says:

Good luck with the relocation decision! My wife turned me on to you…so to speak…and she is originally from CT but now living in Indianapolis. She gives living here high marks…and not because of me either. :-). Looking forward to FNH’s return. You don’t know how many times I’ve had to hide my laughter while reading it at work!

  4. pretzelogic says:

Well done. You made a “decent decision”.. Look forward to your return. Again, good luck, Pretzelogic AKA ‘the white squirrel’.

  5. Lauren U. says:

Thanks for the update, Jillian! Your loyal readers appreciate it. Also, best of luck with relocating and with your family and job. We look forward to your eventual return. Food Network programming has been pretty awful and stale lately, so who could blame you for taking time away from it? Peace!

  6. Sharyn says:

so glad you’re okay. Have missed your hysterical observations. Looking forward to your return. CT can’t be worse than southern New Mexico. At least you have trees, grass and water.

  7. Ray says:

Thank you for the update, Jillian! Much appreciated.

  8. Catherine says:

Thanks for the update! I have missed this site – especially during the recent run of NFNS, which was so delightfully mockable this year. But it’s totally understandable that mocking FN should take a backseat to real life. I hope to see FNH return sometime, but thanks for stopping in to let us know what’s up!
P.S. I’m a CT native currently loving life in Kansas City, MO. No one is more surprised than me!

    • Megan Hull says:

SO funny, Catherine! I am not exactly a CT native, but my family moved there in 6th grade. Close enough.

What’s funny is that I was just about to post about how great Kansas City is! We moved here 1-1/2 years ago for my husband’s job (and he is originally from Topeka), and we absolutely love it.

There is so much to do here, the cost of living is really decent (especially compared to CT!), and there is great infrastructure in the whole metro. Love it and highly recommend it!

  9. Sterson Jo says:

    two words: NEW JERSEY

    • ButtaRumCake says:

      Umm….No^^

I’ve been in NJ all my life (was born in the early 70s LOL) I can’t wait to graduate (RN school) so I can give NJ my whole ass to kiss. It’s way too expensive, even if you HAVE money.

Jillian, move south or west, young woman, but for the love of all things good and pure in the world, do NOT move to NJ.

      ~Butta

  10. Ian says:

Newark, Delaware. It’s a small college town, only 40 minutes to Philadelphia. Housing is also pretty inexpensive compared to much of the east coast.

    • Brooklyn Girl says:

Stay clear of Delaware. If you thought CT was bad, don’t think twice about moving here. Unless… TGIF, Applebee’s and Panera Bread are considered fine dining. LOL!

  11. Julia says:

So glad to hear that you are haven’t given up on this and that you will be back. But, I have to say I was hoping for your commentary on Food Network Star this season. Hope all goes well for you with your move and other family issues.

  12. JustAsking says:

Are you going to allow new people to have access to your forum now? If you’re not going to change that, then what is the point of coming here at all?

  13. Michelle says:

Alton Brown teased Giada about her pronunciation of ricotta in Next Food Network Star!

    • Colleen says:

Alton Brown should talk…he’s the only person I ever heard pronounce it “ri-COE-ta”. I love Alton, but I want to slap the glasses off his face every time I hear him say that!

  14. James Melore says:

There have been tons of moments on FN. Take care of yourself and family. Look forward to your return!

  15. Jeff Balla says:

Jill, This might be asking a bit much, but perhaps you could get a couple FNH readers to volunteer and write some blog posts in your stead? What do you think?

    • Scott Johnson says:

I would really love to help with this idea. I mean, I love Food and Food Network at times, but all of the silly shit they are doing now is just so ripe for parody. It’s becoming so narmy.

      -Restaurant Steakout
      -Mystery Diners
-3 Days to Open w/ Bobby Flay
      -Chef Wanted w/ Anne Burrell.

I really understand how you are going through a lot of personal stuff at the moment. And that’s great considering how you are reflecting with your family and friends and going through the move. I’m really happy for your success and glad that you are still keeping this website alive. Don’t give up on us!

      • Sharon Lea says:

Thanks for the update Jillian. Good to know you will resume at some point.

If I may say, I like the idea of some guest bloggers to tide us over until then,

  16. Just Jenn says:

Food Network Star was unwatchable knowing that I didn’t have your recap to look forward to. Take care of yourself, and can’t wait for your return!

    • Jeff Balla says:

I missed the snarky recaps too. Aarti did recaps of the show and some of them were good, but not for being funny.

  17. Bkhuna says:

Re-start your interest by watching Guy Ferry on Meth, AKA Bama’ Glama.

One episode of that should give you enough material for months.

I would love to, as Jeff mentioned, volunteer to watch FN and help out, but I’d rather slice off my schween with a rusty razor than watch that show.

  18. HadEnough says:

I agree 100% with most of the programming on FN has become stale, boring, annoying and all around unbearable to watch. Ina Garten, , as an example has become, which I never though possible, as annoying as Rachel Ray. That constant giggling and laughing for no good effen reason has made be turn off to her completely. Sorry, that’s my rant.

Jillian, thanks for the update, and good luck with everything! We miss you! .

    • KimCooperYour Name says:

OMG – I SO agree about Ina. What happened to her? She is unwatchable!!! Between the laughs and her fawning over Jeffery (and HIS “OMG! I can’t believe you MADE this! For ME!!!” reactions), she is a characature of her former self. Good luck Jillian – fingers crossed for ya!

  19. Elysianladie says:

Have you thought of posting a very old piece from the archives of FNH? It’s nice to review the vintage.

And you can always ask for someone to help manage the site, I’m sure Byrdie will volunteer, he enjoys giving smart ass comments :^D

  20. Sian says:

Maybe you should expand it to include Cooking and Travel channels, just to reduce the percentage of unwatchable drek.

  21. Martha C says:

    Thanks for the update! :)

Agreed about FN programming…if it wasn’t for the reruns of “Triple D” to make fun of, I don’t know if I’d watch it at all!

Really do like Cooking Channel, Baron Ambrosia and Supersizers are the BEST!

  22. Hey Jillian,
Thanks for the update. Good luck with everything you have going on right now. Just know that you & your crazy good sense of humor are painfully missed. There were so many NFNS moments that made me think “What would FNH have to say about this” especially when AB suggested a Giada game “Spin & Say” (?) & made fun of the way she says “Ree-Coh-Tah”. Very Funny!!
Take good care & come back to us soon!

  23. Thom Stilton says:

Thanks for the update. I figured someone as talented as you are would have numerous other projects on the go, including your books.

As well, try and ignore some of the ignorant comments left in the forum by those who were angry and upset you didn’t report in daily.
Let the dissenters form their little subforum. You don’t need self proclaimed forum doyennes throwing stones at you like that. What a bunch of ungrateful cows.

    • Ungrateful Cow Doyenne says:

Is your favorite word doyenne? You hurl it all the time as if it’s an insult. It’s actually quite complimentary as it describes a woman of respect, grace and position. Oh wait–that’s what bothers you. A woman that thinks something of herself. We can’t have that!

LOL, you’re just pissed off because you’ve already been relegated to “persona non grata” on the splinter forum? Banned. What did you expect? You contribute nothing in terms of food talk and you seem to exist solely to insult anyone at any time for no apparent reason. A couple of chicks take you to task over it and you pull out your sexist uzi and start firing.

Angry that Jillian didn’t report in daily? Ummm, that’s not particularly accurate. She informed us she was going on hiatus and we were basically left to GFO. No new members allowed in, no moderation, no help, no updates…nada. Not really a fun place to hang out anymore. So be it. Fair enough but, I’m not going to celebrate the neglect. Ungrateful? Hardly. We offered to help, we came daily to participate and we have donated in the past.

We wish her well but who wants to lay around for months with no way to cull new members or tweak the forum? You’re welcome to it but, it’s pretty much DOA. Knock yourself out.

      • WHISKEYTANGOFOXTROT says:

Ignore ” and will feature reposts and limited new material.”? Ignore her whole not coming back until Guy is gone? Stop kissing her ass.

    • Ray says:

I don’t think people were necessarily upset that she didn’t “report in daily”. Well, maybe some were, but that obsessive group was (I would hope) in the extreme minority. I think that a lot of us just wanted some occasional word from Jillian. Just a quick pop-in to say, in effect, “I’m still here! The site will be on hiatus a bit longer than expected!” And, that’s exactly what she did. Not that she was obligated to provide anything, but for those of us who love this site, it’s nice to know. I certainly was content to wait, but I was getting more and more anxious to hear some sort of status update. Now we have it.

  24. Daria says:

Thanks for the update and I’ll keep you in my RSS feed. Outside of Food Network Star I have not watched FN myself in years so I can’t blame you at all. I did miss your posts on FN Star this year!

  25. BigThicks says:

100% AGREE about Food Network’s quality going WAY DOWN! Used to be a hardcore fan, was one of the only channels I watched. I have since switched to HGTV and I haven’t looked back! There is nothing good on FN anymore, they hardly ever even show actual cooking shows now. I tuned in to the finale of NFNS last week for a second, but couldn’t take it anymore when they were trying to decide who’s team were the “jocks” (Flay’s), “cheerleaders” (Giada’s) and “nerds” (Alton’s). It was worse than a Jersey Shore reunion! This blog may not be dead, but my love for FN definitely IS! Hope to see you back soon though, this blog always brightened my day!

  26. George says:

Best wishes and may God bless!!~~

  27. Lisa says:

Move to Florida! Lived in CT for many years and as much as it has great features – FL is SO much cheaper!

  28. Mister Dictionary says:

So… Your attitude toward living in Connecticut is much like Foamy the Squirrel’s? … Remember, Foamy is not safe for work, so you should not look up Foamy’s thoughts, opinions, cartoons, or existence at work, near the elderly, or within 100 yards of small children. I mean it.

  29. Blake says:

Transitioning anywhere from home could be really miserable. For a state that gets you out of the way of the coasts, but still has more shoreline than Florida, and a slow pace with a really low cost of living, try Oklahoma! No, we don’t live in teepees and Yes, we have electricity and running water despite what they say on the coasts. Come join Us!

  30. ColK says:

I completely understand. Some people forget that those who create and run sites such as this have lives of their own and it can indeed be time consuming, especially when that person is going through personal transition.

I can also understand that the basis for this site involves watching the Food Network on a regular basis, which can be trying these days. I remember you mentioning in some posts that you could barely sit through this or that show and trying to do something that is tedious while trying to reorganize your life makes it even harder.

Anyway. Best of luck to you in getting things in order, that’s the important thing. Life is too short to have it revolve around TFN.

  31. TennisAce says:

Thanks for the update guys. I have to agree with you that the contents of Food Network has grown worse. It used to be that I would put the tv on FN on Saturday mornings and really get some great ideas for mid-week and weekend dinners. Not anymore. The only thing worth watching is Chopped and because they realise just how successful and popular that show has been with viewers (hey people actually cooking unique items), they have now mandated that all the unwatchable hosts from Food Network Star should go over and compete on the only show worth watching. Way to turn off folks Food Network.

I hope you guys will be back soon because let’s face it, watching Food Network without FNH is just not worth the time or effort

  32. LJHill says:

Boy, people sure like to complain when the entertainment they get for free is not the way they like it.

Jill, my family was just in the same boat you are. We were in CT and hated it, so we finally GTFO last month. Wound up in coastal Texas, which isn’t ideal, but we’re much happier. Also, we can easier afford rent, utilities, and food.

  33. Mack says:

THANK GOD I LOVE FNH I MISSED YOU SO MUCH JILLIAN I NEVER WILL GIVE UP ON YOU

  34. Alan K says:

All I can say is your work is appreciated and I myself am such a huge fan of it. I work in the restaurant industry and you would not believe how many people i’ve turned on to your website. We laugh for hours (my favorite one was probably the amazon add for “more diners drive ins and dives”) . I hope all works out for you and i’ll be waiting for the return : ]

  35. Trisha says:

    Well, we miss ya!

  36. texastoast says:

Glad to know you’re still there. Good luck with everything and Texas would be honored to have you as a citizen!

  37. Christian Groff says:

I sadly agree with you, Jill. I must confess – I only saw two episodes of this season’s Next Food Network Star, and it was on their website, I didn’t turn on the TV for that event. After my parent’s network bummed out, I just said “screw it” and watched the FN Dish recaps instead. I don’t think I’ll bother watching that show or any of the reality competitions. I think what killed my interest in the Network was the fact that they broke their promise to me – Alton told me that he was sure that the third Next Iron Chef was the last, but it wasn’t and they chose Geoffrey Zakarian, who is their oldest member. I stopped watching Iron Chef America after that. :(

If it is too much for you to continue this b log, then I understand, but how about I suggest that you focus on the specials like the next Halloween Specials due to come up in two months? You always fund new material is slamming Sandra Lee. ^_^

  38. kim says:

Hope all is well. Definitely miss the posts but completely understood. Family first!

  39. Tina says:

Been checking back, but take care and hope all will get sorted for you. I love me some Rachel Ray bashing. Ha, so therapeutic.

  40. anton figg says:

When you’re ready, we’ll be here!

    You ROCK!

  41. Bevy says:

Just want to cmment on Paula dean”s witch cackle. Have to turn her off. Can’t stand that phony put on southern drawl. I k ow she probably has some drawl, but a lot of it is put on.

    • Ilovediners says:

OMG I soooo agree about Old Pauler. So exaggerated between the stupid cackling like a drunk hen and the way she says ‘oil’…. like aaaawwwlll. and when she has a guest on, it’s even worse. How many COCKTAILS does that crazy lady drink before taping that stupid show anyway?

  42. COUSIN OLIVER says:

Good to hear from you. Take as much time as you need, of course. You know that we’ll be here whenever it is. We would have loved to have heard your thoughts on FNS, but it has to be as craptacular next year, right?

  43. Ina Garten DaVida says:

if you’re looking for amusing NFNS recaps (yes, I know it’s over!) and other FN abuses, try minxeats.com

    • Ray says:

minxeats is terrific. Their recaps of FNS filled the void left by the lack of such here. Plus, they were very, very funny.

  44. noo says:

    Hi Jill,
I’m usually a lurker on the site but I thought to add my voice in wishing you the best of luck with whatever is to come. It is pretty funny to see everybody giving you suggestions on where to move, I wish I could get in on that but I’m in Egypt so…
Good luck and come back soon
    noo

  45. Epcyclopedia says:

Just wanted to mention.. there’s probably a lot of your faithful readers who would be willing to step in and help out so you don’t have to do -everything- yourself.

If a show isn’t fun for you, let someone else who thinks it is fun take over reviewing/watching it – ya know?

  46. pink pistol says:

Well, don’t move to Texas. It’s almost all knuckle-dragging, gun-totin, fundamentalist fools.

    • Brook Monroe says:

Luckily, that’s not the problem with Texas. The problem with Texas is that no one there knows how to drive worth a damn.

      • bunny69 says:

Amen to that! Moved here a year ago from Utah where I drove through white outs and blizzards with ease but dealing with the crappy drivers in Texas, I’d rather drive through a snow storm any day of the week!!

  47. Sandy says:

Hey Jill! It’s great to hear from you again. I’m sorry to hear you’ve been going through a rough time, and I’m glad you decided to spend your precious free time with your family and friends. I totally agree with you about FN becoming unwatchable. In fact , aside from my DVR’d Good Eats reruns, I’ve given up on it myself. I still find myself coming back here time and time again, though. Your snark never fails to bring a smile to my face. Who doesn’t love a good laugh at Guy Ferry’s douchetastic, pinky-ringed expense?? My all-time favorite FNH post was when you put the Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives DVDs next to the Summer’s Eve at Target. Comedic genius!

If you ever find yourself in Fort Worth, Texas, give me a shout – I’d love to buy you a beer or three! Good luck :-D

  48. Rachel says:

Please try to hurry back! I very much miss this site.

  49. Diane B says:

It was good to read your update, Jillian. Sending good wishes to you as you figure out your living situation and family issues.

I miss the great satire and comments, but I’ll keep checking in and looking forward to when FNH starts back up again.

I have to say that the people who are getting their knickers in a twist over FNH’s hiatus really need to get a life. If you can’t live without a certain blog or forum then you spend waaaaay too much time on the computer. Get over yourself.

  50. GreenJean says:

Miss you and look forward to your return

  51. RR's Pompoms says:

Glad you checked in Jillian. You are so right – FN is very unwatchable. Between the DDD marathons (seriously?), Pioneer Woman (or as I call it, WTF), and all things Bobby Flay, I’d much rather watch reruns of Property Virgins with its irritating home buyers, even if it’s staged. Be well and hope you find a new habitat.

  52. Anne is GAY??? You could knock me over with a feather.

  53. Red says:

Do your thing girl! We’ll check in from time to time. Blog burnout + real life = run away! (but then come back when you can).

  54. Beets Are Nature's Candy says:

Hey, man, didn’t anyone tell you that Connecticut is still revolutionary? Also, in just a few short months you won’t have your mailbox clogged with Linda McMahon fliers anymore.

  55. Lauren says:

Wish you were here to comment on Robert Irvine’s upcoming food network wedding! Ha, it looks ridiculous.

  56. Paula says:

If you need more inspiration, just watch the Cooking Channel! Good Luck! Hope you’ll be back soon!

  57. Tatiana says:

Good to hear from you again, though I do agree that FN is unwatchable these days. Other than an occasional Anne Burrell show, its no longer on my list of channels to watch. I can’t make a suggestion on relocation, as I just moved back to CT after 30+ years in NYC. I really miss NYC, but I’m also happy to be back in CT.

  58. Andy says:

Do what you gotta do. You’re right the channel sucks. It’s tough to make funny observations if what you are looking at makes you want to stab yourself in the eye with an oyster fork! We’ll be here when you return. I love all your other sites BTW! Feel better and good luck with the move!

  59. Chris says:

Is that the same reason Pophangover quality has gone downhill and is now run by “Noah”, and “Earnest”?

  60. Michelle says:

Come back JIllian! Jeff Mauro (and others) are so incredibly annoying. We need humor. Sandra Lee also won Outstanding Lifestyle/Culinary Host at the Daytime Emmys this year. It’s gag-inducing.

  61. Skats says:

Move to Texas, Jillian. We’ve got laughable residents, but also some fun things to do. :-)

  62. Anna says:

” Food Network has become unbearably repetitive and unwatchably bad. For the last year”

Amen to that, sister! “Unwatchably bad” might even be an understatement. FoodNet really needs to get a grip and stop with the reality TV BS. I just record Barefoot Contessa and Good Eats on DVR to watch, but there are only so many re-runs that I can take; I wish there were some new episodes… :( Really sad, though, after watching FoodNet for over a decade to see it come down to this garbage.

    • Amy says:

I watched a ridiculous Barefoot Contessa yesterday. Ina tried to die when another chef used kimchee as an ingredient. She was all “oo it smells, what is that?” etc. I used to love her, but she just phones it in now.

  63. SSA says:

I hope the hiatus ends soon!

  64. pickles says:

I agree food network has gotten shitty, but bob and suzie continue to live in their fantasy world…you need to fucking trash that PIONEER WOMEN AND HER hot FUCKING HUBBY.

  65. Roscoe says:

Jillian, we really lover this blog and your writing is always excellent. We will be here waiting when it is right for you to return!

  66. Kev says:

“Not dead, just on haitus.” Famous last words for every blog site. Every blogger seems to make a post exactly like this going “I’m not quitting, just taking a break” before they drop off the face of the internet and nobody ever hears from them again.

I’m not saying it’s the case for this site (oh god, I hope not), but it’s not a good sign.

    • Ray says:

I tend to agree with what you’re saying. However, I can also understand it if this does turn out to be the case. There’s pretty much nothing left to watch on the network. Take tonight, for example: Looks like it’s just a long marathon of FatAss McGreaseBall’s diner shows. Seems like just about any time I turn on the channel i see his putrid countenance. Food Network is a near-complete wreck at this point.

    • Jillian Madison says:

For the 900th time – the blog is not dead, it’s on hiatus. I don’t know for how long. Until things settle down in my life. If I didn’t want to do it anymore, I would just come out and close it down. There’s no shame in that.

      • foodieinalabama says:

Do it then you fucking idiot.

        • netman says:

Wow. How about you simply move along? I’m sure Jillian really appreciates your comment and will get right on it just to satisfy you. Nothing better to do with your life than troll?

      • Emery says:

Hi! I just wanted to say how much I love your site and that I hope all is well with you and your life.

I am a new fan of this site but I am definitely going to be a regular. I laugh my ass off every time..

It is so cool to see how many fans you have! Take care and Happy New Year!

  67. Bob says:

I really hope this blog isn’t gone for good, but I can totally understand not wanting to watch Food Network anymore. I flipped over to it for the first time in months last night and it was just unwatchable. It’s not even worth watching for the “so bad it’s good” factor anymore. It’s just bad and boring now.

  68. DeAnte says:

    Move to Austin, Texas! :)

  69. hairball says:

are you just waiting till december 22nd?

  70. ColK says:

I agree with Bob, I couldn’t blame her if she decided to not continue. It seems like 75%+ of their prime time programming is either reality or competitions and I’m even getting tired of Chopped, which was the show that helped my wife pull me into watching to begin with. They’ve stretched Chopped to such limits that I’m just waiting for the inevitable Chopped: Microwave Masters mini series.

We used to keep up with ICA but some of the mainstays are gone or rarely participate and the Next Iron Chef winners outside of Symon are schmucks. It’s also gotten monotonous to the point where my wife will say “I’ll bet it’s fish” and just as often as not, it is. Plus, the judges these days are too often chosen to plug their shows from the Cooking Channel.

They’ve tried to capitalize on the popularity of some of their stars, placing them in shows that flop. Symon, Burrell, Flay have all had one or more bombs in the past couple of years.

Bottom line, it can be hard to watch to begin with but to watch and then try to do a creative write up afterward? Ugh. Not I.

  71. JB says:

Ina said around 12-15 “O.K’s” on Barefoot today. Why can’t they edit some of them out? Dear Lord. She’s become a real annoyance to watch. Food Network blows. Period.

  72. Sunny says:

Miss your posts! Hope you’re okay!

  73. Just checking back in to see if you had posted any updates & want you to know that you’re still missed!! (in withdrawl from my daily doses of snark) -Snarkless in Miami

  74. Michelle says:

You should move to Portland, Oregon. Best city ever.

  75. candi cane says:

    DAMN!!! LONGEST 3 MONTHS EVER!!!
    : /

  76. Darrell says:

You have to hurry back. Sandra Lee will have a new show on the cooking channel called Taverns, Lounges and Clubs.

    Really Sandy?

    • Lisa says:

I saw the commercial for that last night. I busted out laughing. Talk about just playing right into her alcoholism. But I will miss those gaudy tablescapes

  77. Aunt Sandy says:

Miss ya! Come on back and show me more clips of myself looking like a washed up drunk.

  78. Ken says:

Have you officially retired from the site??? I’m worried you’re not even alive at this point :-/

Not a single update since July!

  79. Love fnh says:

I’m convined jilliian is dead. As is Bree and Michelle.

  80. sprode says:

A shame – there is so much good stuff coming. Who is going to rip on Aunt Sandy? Who is going to put Elizabeth Falkner in her place?

Seriously, I don’t want to watch that show with Appleman and Falkner. I don’t want to suffer without seeing that little bit of light at the end of the tunnel.

  81. Ray says:

Not dead. Resting. And, perhaps, pining for the fjords.

  82. Dee says:

Are the Neelys still on food network?

  83. OregonMamaToThree says:

Sorry to hear about family health issues. :-(. I do miss ‘stopping by’ and reading your posts about the ridiculousness that is the Food Network.

However, I’m Begging you (yes, capital B) to cover our beloved Aunt Sandy’s new show – Sandra’s Taverns, Lounges and Clubs. I’m not joking, just saw a commercial on cooking channel. Frickin’. Hilarious.

    • LJS0208 says:

Seriously!! Could they do a more appropriate show for Aunt Drunky? Although she’s going to places that serve real cocktails and drinks, not this shitty cheap things she serves.

  84. Elysianladie says:

Hurricane Sandy is coming up, perfect time to make an Aunt Sandy joke with it.

  85. Robert says:

FNH is not dead. It’s just on hiatus … forever.

  86. Kat says:

I miss coming on here and getting a good laugh. Hope everything is okay.

  87. Goober says:

New season of Next Iron Chef kicks off tonight. Ten past losers return for an attempt at redemption.

    Ripe for ridicule.

    • LJS0208 says:

Fortunately no Judy Joo and her foodgasms.

I loved how the dude who cooked up a steak and chugged wine was the first to go.

Go Alex! (Though I was hoping for Chef Anne to come back and kick all their asses)

  88. aas711 says:

Has anyone else read the New York Times’ review of Guy Ferry’s newest restaurant? Because it is one epic burn.

    • Deaner says:

I didn’t read the article itself, but I read a Yahoo story about the article, with some hilarious excerpts. My favorite was the line about the blue drink glowing like nuclear waste. LOL.

I kinda have to figure the only folks who will be going to Guy’s new place are tourists. Too many great places in NYC to go for locals in the know, and all that.

      • aas711 says:

For sure. New Yorkers know what’s up. But really, if you liked those excerpts, you should read the whole thing. It is one burn after another and does not let up for whole article. Awesome.

        • LJS0208 says:

Come on, if THIS doesn’t bring you back, Jillian. It’s like an epic early Christmas present.

Anybody who hasn’t, you MUST read it.

  89. BurgerTime says:

Guy Fieri’s new New York restaurant got a bad review with New York Times,

    “As Not Seen on TV
Restaurant Review: Guyโ€™s American Kitchen & Bar in Times Square”

I would link it, but I don’t think we can put links in our comments. Here’s another:

    Yahoo News/ Atlantic Wire:
“Don’t Even Think of Eating at Guy Fieri’s New Times Square Restaurant”

  90. jess says:

hey! let me take over your blog :)

    i’m not kidding.

  91. Sunny says:

Thought of you when I read this:

    http://newyork.grubstreet.com/2012/11/twitter-reactions-to-pete-wells-guy-fieri-review.html?mid=facebook_nymag

Did you figure out where you will be moving yet?

    Best to you!

  92. Butt_Poppin_Bobby says:

Is it wrong I want to personally punch everybody in the face of the paula seen family even baby jack…lol

They are just SO FUCKING FAKE!

  93. Amy says:

Is anybody watching this Thanksgiving live thing? I really think that Alton Brown loathes Giada. (I think she is drunk on the show too.)

    • Ray says:

I caught the last half-hour or so. Honestly, I had no idea it was on, and when I stumbled across it I thought maybe it was a rerun from last year. Given I watch barely any Food Network anymore, I don’t have much of any idea of what shows they may be airing.

    • Christian Groff says:

I watched it and enjoyed it. I think that the blogmaster would have liked it – it’s not fake like what FNH slams about, and the people were funny and helpful. I only wish that Food Network would do more of this, not another season of flapping Next Iron Chef. :(

  94. Ray says:

Thanks for the brief update, Jillian. I look forward to you tearing the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives Network… er.. *ahem*…. Food Network…. to shreds again in 2013.

  95. Malmal says:

Dang! I miss this website! BLESS COME BACK SOON!

  96. Malmal says:

    *PLEASE

  97. AnitaBath says:

We need you to make fun of Chef Fuck-ups ice creams! That’s all she makes, and she stands by her dishes!

  98. SRIRINIa says:

Can’t wait for 2013!!! Your genius site had saved me from my effing local sitcom that my parents dig, I swear I’ll re-read all this from the start. It’s really an oasis for me.Good luck for everything Jill!

  99. Ashley says:

Can’t wait until 2013! I have missed this site.

  100. EricaBash says:

Please tell me you’ve seen that Sandra Lee has the show where she goes around sampling drinks!! I would LOVE to read your feedback on this!

  101. Cellist5423 says:

anybody watching next iron chef? I totally think that this week’s episode was SOOOOOOOO scripted that its unbelievable. I mean, repeating last year’s episode to a t? Whats next, appleman’s going to win this?

    • Emery says:

OMFG! This season of NIC was so painful to watch that I was done after ep. #1. I knew it, I KNEW it! I even told a friend after we watched first ep. that Alex was going to win. I hate that witch so much.. she goes out of her way to be spiteful, condesending, arrogant, etc. She just loves to be a bitch and pose with unnecessary scowling eyes as if someone had killed her mother. I know I should go to a post about Alex to rant and bash her, and I will. But I was talking about me knowing that she would win after 1st ep because the whole season of NIC was obviously preproduced and scripted. I really do not understand why the FN producers and management so loves the extreme, the pompous, the fake, the overly-produced, etc.

      FINALLY:

I used to love the FN, back in the good ole days of programming with the likes of “Easy Entertaining w/M.C.”, “Molto Mario”, even the early days of “30 Min. Meals”. Now I loathe about 95% of the FN “actors” and about 80% of programming.

I HAVE fallen in love with this website!!!! I have laughed my ass off so much and have shared it with at least 25 people. I hope all is well with the site’s owner.

And I cannot wait till she starts posting again. All the best to you all. Happy New Year!

      Emery

  102. Loyal fan says:

Oh I sooo wish you were doing coverage of next iron chef.. It’s too ridiculous to be true. Each season just gets worse and worse. And there’s no doubt that this show is staged.

We miss you like crazy, come back soon!

  103. Samantha says:

The Next ______________ just isn’t the same!

  104. Elysianladie says:

Since theres no Christmas post, I would like to wish a Merry Christmas here to FN and FNH!

  105. amy says:

Who was completely unsurprised by the Next Iron Chef winner? Alex has been appearing in ads for everything on FN for the last several weeks! It really was unfair-Amanda outcooked her almost every week.

    • I would have been satisfied with either Alex or Amanda. It least that douche-bag Nate Apple – head didn’t win. Dude acted as if his sh*t smelled like Calvin’s Klein’s Obsession

  106. Laura says:

Did anyone else see the Sandra Lee commercial about
Not drinking and driving? I’ve only seen it once and was floored.

  107. Kristyn says:

I MISS YOU SO MUCH FNH!!!

I cannot wait until 2013 just so I can laugh at your posts yet again!

  108. OlguiBee says:

Sooo many FNH worthy moments this year (including, but not limited to – Mystery Diners, Wedding Impossible, The Next Iron Chef: Redemption, etc) this Network has jumped the shark about as many times as Greys Anatomy, sheesh. I cannot wait for the return of this site.

  109. Emery says:

What the hell is the difference btw restaurant stakeout and mystery diners anyway? As far as I can tell it’s the exact same concept only with different hosts.

How many new series’ has FN launched since Jan. 2012? It seems to me like every other week there was a promotion for a brand “new” series that turned out to be a bad excuse to for FN execs to burn up their “R&D” budget. Like how many of these “new series” was Bobby Flay the star of this year? “Worst Cooks In America” (more like worst concept for a tv show in American history), “3 Days to Open”, โ€œBobby Flayโ€™s Best Home Cooksโ€, uuhh.. did I miss something?

I don’t think the network has any concept of that idea of audience retention. I dont believe that FN execs have ever heard of the concept of quality, nor consistency. Somewhere someone told them that they should should just throw a bunch of piles of shit at the wall and watch sniff it all really hard to see what pile of shit will stick. Not that I’m sniffing but as a FN hater, my count is 0-14 (in 2012).

What shit will they throw up next??

    • Giada de Low-Rent Tits says:

Good points. Too much new concept programming takes away from the point of the network in my opinion.

    • GuyFierisToeJam says:

That’s funny. I saw the same thing the other night. I was telling my wife, “This is the show where they wire a restaurant for video and sound and watch the nutty shit that they do, but this isn’t the chunky NY steakhouse guy. What happened to him?” I started poking around the TV listings and found out, yes, I was looking for the other show. These two are exactly the same.

I shouldn’t be surprised. How many shows depict chefs that have to beat the clock cooking food that incorporates ingredients that are revealed half a second before they say, “GO!”? Damn near all of them.

    • ANNE BURNTSMELL says:

This show is so obviously scripted and staged. it’s almost painful to watch, realizing that the “producers” @ Food Network do not realize that we all know. They send the same guys in every week as the “mystery diners”. Everyone that I know that works in f&b watches Food Network all the time. I would know right off the bat that they were a “mystery diner” because I’ve seen the f****** show! The worst part is the actual dialogue. Not only of the fake actors and fake mystery diners but also the actual guy that does the hosting.. It’s obvious that everything he says was written for him and printed on a big white board. When I watch the Food Network I want to murder myself for having done so .

      • Ray says:

Mystery Diners is Food Network’s version of Cheaters. That’s all I can think of when I’ve watched the show. The shows are structured roughly the same, and the hosts have similar levels of sleaze and self-importance.

  110. KimbyDammit says:

I’m just here checking for the first time in…. I can’t remember. Rachel vs. Guy! This is GOLD – how can you not be covering this?! 6 months with nothing. Disappointed! Don’t think I’ll be back.

  111. Amy says:

    It’s true :( From Jillian’s sister’s twitter page:

    Michelle Madison โ€@coastalmichelle
Happy to announce that my sis & I sold the Pophangover Network, including Damn You Auto Correct, to Break Media. We are no longer involved:)

  112. Deceived Fan says:

Well, I always knew Jillian was a cunt…. Now it is confirmed. Thanks for wasting our time.

  113. Don_Kieballs says:

Rachael vs. Guy 2013: Is Gilbert Gottfried in-character on the advice of producers or is he just fucked in the head?

  114. Mac says:

Yeah but is this site still part of the Popover Network? Jillian seemed way more invested in this site than the others, and I think she would have told us whether she would leave for good. Don’t be rushing to conclusions.

    • G says:

      Never thought of that possibility.

    • Ray says:

Maybe we’ll get another update from Jillian as to what this means for FNH. Leastwise I am hoping so.

    • Deaner says:

You might be right, Mac. I checked the “new” Pophangover home page and FNH was not listed amongst the various sites. So, maybe Jillian is keeping this one for herself.

Either way, it’s cool. I’d like to see more FNH, but if this site has run its course, and Jillian has decided to move on, so be it. We all move on sooner or later, I guess.

  115. G says:

    Via Michelle Madison’s Facebook:

    Michelle Madison
Thanks everyone, FNH was actually the only site we retained, so there is still hope one day for a revival.
    Jan 3 ยท 1

  116. LimaBean says:

I want to hold out hope that FNH will return but…..FoodNetwork itself has jumped the shark a thousand times over. I’m usually at work so I can’t really talk about the day time but night time programming is re-runs of the same old same old that run for the entire night. What would Jillian even have to snark at?

I figure that since Jillian and MIchelle especially held FNH back in the sale that must mean that they care enough to put out new material. But how good can that new material be if the source of it sucks? The old FN used to at least have some watchable programming now it’s garbage.

    • Ray says:

Good points, LimaBean. Seems like whenever I turn on the channel, Guy Ferry’s repellant face is filling the screen. Like you, I tune in primarily at night. Now and then I come across a showing of Chopped, or Robert Irvine’s ripoff of Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares. But, mostly when I try FN, it’s DD&D. Though, granted, I don’t surf to the channel near as often as I once did.

      • LimaBean says:

Exactly…even if I try to watch Chopped it’s guaranteed that I’ve seen the episode already. And how many times can you watch a show with a concept that is always the same. Even with new chefs it gets redundant. The restaurant resurrection shows are awful, if I wanted to see scuzzy dives try to revamp themselves i could just walk down Queens Blvd and eat at B rated restaurants. And now eve Iron Chef has been changed to up the “drama” with the first dish having to be in by 20 min. I’m guessing they’ve seen their viewership decline and are grasping at straws. If they’re so re-run happy why not throw on a whole night of Good Eats? At least I would learn some real cooking techniques I could try at home rather than watching some morons run around against a clock.

I can honestly say I’m done with FN, I’ve tried and now I’m done. I don’t know if even Jillian’s snark could improve my interest.

And this can be said of all that networks channels…all it is a litany of re-runs and stale attempts at new material. I’m on Long Island and forced into cablevision so I can’t even attempt to see what the Cooking channel is like. I’m sure it’s mostly the same old same old on its parent channel. Sigh….I miss the old days way back before the channel dropping fiasco. I turn to the Create network for cooking shows now. Lydia’s Italy is pretty decent, at least it’s a true cooking program.

        • bunny69 says:

I totally agree that Create is a great network! I like the freshness, genuineness and honesty of their shows and hope that Create remains “gimmick-free” . Enough with Food Network and those so called competitions!

        • Ray says:

Create is wonderful. Christopher Kimball has become a pseudo-Alton Brown for me. His shows aren’t quite as, well, “sciencey” as Good Eats was, but there’s still a bit of it in America’s Test Kitchen and Cook’s Country. I always enjoy watching his programs. And there are plenty of other good cooking shows.

  117. Lulla says:

I was watching FN today briefly when I muted the TV because my fiancee had to use the phone. The captions come on when the TV is muted and throughout the new “Chef Wanted” commercial where people were cooking and Ann Burrell was yelling, it just displayed ‘contains ingredients that freshen dog breath,’ (the previous commercial was for a dog bone) and I thought of your website.

  118. kirsten says:

    come baaack :(

  119. Malmal says:

So, are you EVER coming back??

  120. What says:

Seriously, everyone, just go search reddit for any FN star/show or check out the /r/Cooking subreddit and you can find some fun criticizing like how it used to be here.

This site is never going to come back. Yeah “coming back in 2013″, you mean updating us on Dec 31, 2013 to keep an eye out on 2014 being the best year for FNH ever. It’s time to let this place go.

    • LimaBean says:

I’m thinking the same as you at this point. Worst Cooks is starting tonight, Jillian’s love interest Anne Burrell has her own show that just started and there’s been nothing. Not even one mention that all the other sites were sold. I’m thinking they held back FNH from the sale because the buyer realized there would be no profit from it because the blogger has abandoned it. It’s gone and never coming back. And look, I understand that people’s lives get hectic but I’m an RN in an OR working full time, going to school full time, I have a husband and 3 kids and even I find time to sit down and make fun of few ridiculous shows that are mildly watchable on FN. The only difference is that I don’t type out the snark I’m saying as I say it. Oh and I just relocated my whole family 3 hrs away so she really can’t come on and say that her life situations are too much to handle a blog that she could honestly do once a week posts on and still keep people happy. I was hoping for a little note saying hey I’m done, it’s been real…bye bye guys. But whatever, I’m not waiting anymore. This is my last visit to this and all the pophangover sites ever. The having to click next crap on DYAC is irritating anyways.

    • Avrum says:

That subreddit is all recipes. Would’ve been nice if the forum here was kept active and then we could’ve entertained ourselves chatting about Food Network shows.

  121. GA_Beach_Bum says:

So many times I’ve seen things on FN that reminded me of this place – I’ve actually wondered, “What would Jillian say about that?”

Maybe they’ll come back. I hope they do. I see no need for the douchebaggery that is going on, because this is a free site. You don’t have to pay to be here, so if you don’t like it, don’t come back around.

  122. Sunny says:

    Come back!!!!

  123. Kathleen says:

OMG!!! I found this when I Googled…Rick Bayless creepy….and one of the results was your hysteria inducing …10 Famous Foodies That Look Like Old Lesbians…. I am grateful for your hiatus so I can catch up …. Please please please come back soon!!!

  124. Jason says:

    JILLIAN! I MISS YOUR SNARK!!

I know the hiatus is well needed. You provided so much daily joy for so many of us! Hope all is well and cannot wait to have you back!!

  125. Robert says:

Anyone else keep coming back to check if the hiatus has ended? Here’s hoping.

  126. GA_Beach_Bum says:

So every few months I come on here, to see if anything has changed. I loved this website, and miss it. Once again – nothing. What the blue hell, Madison girls? I just left here and went to pophangover.com and it’s all newly redone with a new format and EVERYTHING. So you are not dead. You do not have a flat tire in the middle of the Antarctic and no spare. You were not abducted by aliens, or eaten by a grizzly bear, or Rush Limbaugh.

Were you TOLD to stop by Food Network? Is that why you abandoned us? You know if you’d done the stand-up guy thing and told us, instead of stringing us along, it would have been a much better outcome for all involved.

  127. K. says:

The FNH Twitter account claims that the site will be back in the Fall. We shall see.

  128. Nunyabizness says:

Awww. It’s been over a year! Hope everything is okay. I used to link to you guys on my blog; this site was always good for a laugh. Come back soon!

  129. leannwoo says:

I check back every few months…it said May 2013 and now it’s May 2013! I miss this site.

  130. GuyFierisToeJam says:

So kill your bookmark and don’t come back. I would advise that you be careful about talking smack about a person who is mysteriously gone and seems to be neglecting things for no reason.

A lady at my work seemed to be doing just that. People got sick of taking her workload while she was skipping out early and taking a lot of time off. She was off beating brain cancer while the rest of us were bitching about having to spend half an hour a day doing her stuff. Open mouth, insert foot.

  131. SandraLee'sLiver says:

Nah, they just bought it out.

  132. Amber says:

    Actually, they retained FNH, so.

  133. AG says:

lol I don’t understand the obsession with Anne Burrell and why she was exempt from being made fun of. She’s just as annoying as other Food Network stars.

Also agreeing with what you said about opposing her opinion. Not only would she be rude, but the other members that have their head up her ass would be rude to you as well.

  134. Misenplas says:

Plus, if that raggedy bitch isn’t even coming on here to delete my comments, that means this site will never be back up. Hey Jillian…………eat a bag of dicks you dirty whore!

  135. claire r says:

Bobby F, you are one nasty dude!

  136. Alton Brown Eye says:

    Had it. Tastes like chicken.

  137. claire r says:

    Good eats, right Alton?

  138. Alton Brown Eye says:

    Better than Giada’s sardine stink-hole.

  139. claire r says:

Ewwwww Alton…you are one naughty, naughty boy!

  140. Thom Stilton says:

    Hey Boo,
Didn’t I see you on an episode of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo ? HAngin with Big June ? hahahah

  141. GoodGravy says:

So you find out you’re not being policed, and this is what you choose to say? You have the whole of the English language to choose from. Do you want a re-do, or is this truly what is at the depth of your soul? I may be able to figure out why she might delete your comments.

  142. GoodGravy says:

Uh…that was a reply to MisEnPlace, btw.
